I relate to this song so much, as I come from an abusive home. I hated the way I treated my boyfriend sometimes. I couldn't explain to him how my mind mentally snapped if I was too stressed and the sensory overload would be too much if I was in a loud or bright environment and couldn't escape. I couldn't explain how him touching certain parts of my body made me break out into a cold sweat, how it reminded me of the way my mother would touch me before hurting me. Instead I got widely angry, pushed him away and acted insane. I did need the upper hand even when we weren't fighting, because it made me feel more secure. When this song came out, he listened to it and said it was how he felt, then I broke down listening to it. It encapsulated how we both felt as I was trying to get over my trauma, with both of us navigating the waters of what was too much for me to handle. I worked a lot on trying not to lash out, to try to calm myself down and quiet the paranoia that he was doing these random things to hurt me. And he tried his best to memorize my triggers and not provoke me. We're still trying to get through this and we've come a long way.
