The carefree mindset of knowing you're uncensorable was the most genuine piece of this show. I can understand how Pat thinks he can hold onto that, and maybe at first he can, but slowly it will erode. Then a critical moment will happen and the pressure from Disney will be too immense, and the little wording in the contract no one thought to tie together take him down.

Bro. You literally had a 30$ million dollar deal per year. You got to say and do whatever you wanted. You were authentic. Even if people disagreed with Rodgers anti injection talk, he and y’all were allowed to do it and were the only ones doing it. Now, ESPN can cut out and censor and discussion that is against there political agenda. You were one of the biggest threats, because you guys had a huge platform that spoke the truth. Now they’ve captured you. Even if you say it’s the same, it’s not. Less swearing is less Mcafee. And, to make matters worse, your giving ESPN more power. You were already rich and killing it. But you had two choices: 1. Sticking to the cause. 2. Selling out.
Either way, I understand you took the easier and more profitable path but damn.
The $30 million is for the shows budget and whatever is left over is what they make. Pat now gets 17 mill a year while espn now pays for the show and everything that comes with it like travel and promotions along with paying staff salaries. So it’s a huge pay raise and is guaranteed.

It sucks. The whole reason I watched the show was because I hated espn and the other big time networks.

My thought (and it’s based on nothing but I wouldn’t put it past ESPN) is worrying that ESPN will get in the way of players coming on the show. “Yes you can go on the Pat mcafee show. But you also have to go on “X” show aswell” or “ hey Pat we need more clickbate videos to push can you ask these questions aswell while Y player is on the show? (Like they already do)”
Disney WILL ABSOLUTELY ruin this show. Pat is trying to ease everyone in by just saying they aren't cursing anymore, but that is just the beginning.

PMS has gotten me through my first two years of college. Literally what I watched everyday at lunch and what brought me comfort when times were hard. I’m glad I got to experience this program and am saddened to see it do this. All good things must end I guess

Not "just try". I think it was about 5/6 years ago and ESPN claims it was due to barstools backlash over toxic work environment, sexism etc.

As someone who has been under multiple recording contracts, two with major labels, I can assure Pat that companies will sign a contract and then ask you to change everything that made you great. They dont even necessarily realize they’re doing it. Their egos just have to get their fingerprints on everything so they can claim some credit. In the process they almost always destroy what made the thing special. Hope it doesn’t happen, but it usually does. And it usually happens when the next regime of suits comes in and doesn’t feel beholden to previous agreements.

Channels claim they aren’t giving up creative control but that doesn’t mean they don’t have a new set of rules to abide by. They will have to tone things back no doubt. The contract they signed most likely has stipulations that pat has to release content on a certain schedule/ cover specific topics as well. If you look at what espn did to ufc with their deal, ufc has to put on x amount of shows a year. This lead to Dana throwing together cards that barely have any star power each week to meet the quotas. Essentially became the McDonald’s of mma because of ESPN. If you think espn just tossed a ton of money to a guy they banned their own employees from talking to just to let him do whatever he wants now, well I have a bridge to sell you.
No way this show stays even remotely the same. Sad but true.

This announcement makes me sad since the genuine independence made this "progrum" great... but i realize there's more at play than just the feelings of a UA-cam community. I was apart of a small start up company, we had such a great culture and we kept meeting goal after huge goal. Many rivals tried to acquire us, but we were having success because we did the opposite of what they were doing, we were giving the customers what they wanted and we felt there was no way we could join them and stop giving our customers what they came to us for. Something different than what the big competitors were offering.
Well, two more successful years of this and then one day our founders got offered so so so much money it changed all of our lives. We also got offered to all keep our jobs at the new company, things wouldn't change much we were promised, we would keep delivering the service our customers respected us for.
That lasted about 6 months. Within a year both our Founders were gone, I had three new managers, when before I only needed one, and our service tanked to the level of our competitors. Then we were all cut and they merged our product into their offering.
They acquired us to eliminate us. It worked perfectly, we all made off fine, but I still feel bad because the only people who got hurt were the customers who now are back stuck with the big competitors sub par offering again.
Maybe The Pat McAfee Show will be different, maybe it won't. I know we thought we were different and then all of a sudden we weren't

When Aaron Rodgers made his announcement on this show about wanting to play for the jets , it did massive numbers, huge viewers for that show. I feel like ESPN saw that players would rather come to this show and make announcements rather than do it on ESPN , and instead of competing with the pms they just decided to buy it . Wow man this is such terrible news ….. a Disney version of the pms will be awful

You don't keep control of anything when it comes to licensing deals, just ask Rogan how many videos spotify took down before his official move from yt to exclusively on spotify and also during the pandemic they started labeling videos of his with covid warnings.

Are they moving into an ESPN studio? If so, the Thunder Dome was a waste. Unless they film there or use it to work out and make side content, but that still is a high fee just for playing in there.

Man I can’t say enough how much I hate ESPN and Disney. The whole reason I loved this show is because it wasn’t a part of those garbage companies. It seems obvious it won’t be the same now…with that said; couldn’t be happier for THE BOYS. You guys deserve every bit of money and success. Thank you for a hell of a ride.
Three changes for sure: 1) Disney poltical officer always present on set 2) Emphasis shifts from NFL to WNBA and 3) Addition of female or LGBTQ cast member.

@@The1DairyKing my guess is ESPN offered the most, while putting the least restrictions/changes on them. I often think those in the sport get far less butt-hurt than us fans. They are closer and know it truly is a business, so they let stuff go more easily. Same way I involuntarily toss my cookies anytime anyone Patriot-adjacent has anything to do with ESPN. Also, when you lose my respect in life, I choose not to deal with you. Not everyone has the same lines in the sand
