A poignant and nostalgic excursion past the shops and corners down the Strand eastward into Fleet Street and on to Ludgate Hill. These ancient thoroughfares seen through modern eyes (from the top of a bus?) marry well with the music which is both glittering and clodhopping. Fabulous. Thanks for posting.

Transposed for Brass and Woodwind, this piece is utterly sublime.
It has to be one of the most uplifting short pieces ever written.

Wonderful description of what this piece is all about. Sunny excursion into an imaginary realm of sheer delight....indeed !! Well put, Pischnaholic.

Pischnaholic and Misty Winter have voiced my thoughts. Last heard this recording back in the 70s and now rediscovered......Penelope Thwaites is superb.

This recording is by the City of London Sinfonia, Penelope Thwaites, piano, conducted by Richard Hickox on Chandos Records 2029 or 9499.

Lovely version which resists the temptation to rush.

The initial tune is very much inspired by Handel's Air from Keyboard Suite no 5 in E major more popularly known as the Harmonious Blacksmith. It's a lovely jaunty piece of music but I imagine technically difficult to play.

It seems to be a touch of Popeye.
