- We've put some of the best flagship phones money can buy right now to the test. We pitted the iPhone 6S, HTC 10, Huawei P9, LG G5, Samsung Galaxy S7 - the Exynos 8890 toting version - and Sony Xperia Z5 against each other.
Our camera and speed tests are now complete but now it's time for our phones to take on the battery challenge.
HTC10 (56%) 1440 QHD screen
iPhone (22%) 720 HD screen
HTC🔥❤
+محمد الدوسري iphone 1080p
+francis joseph nope 6S is 720 and 6S plus 1080
+محمد الدوسري nope iPhone 6s has 750 screen
+Lee Squires apple them self said that iphone 6 and iphone 6s has the same screen resolution which is 720 p
jad hzim incorrect. They have 750p screens.
1334x750 is the resolution
I hate how Apple wants there phones to be so thin that they sacrifice battery power.
I agree too
Even the huawei p9 is thinner than the iphone 6s, yet the huawei has a bigger battery
iphone isn't the thinnest phone. Iphone 6/6+/6s/6s+. Actually, their s models got thicker.
their*
+TopToad I knew that! I was just checking if you knew.
WHY DIDN'T YOU FINISH THE DAMN VIDEO?!
NOT ALL SMARTPHONES SHOE ACCURATE BATTERY PERCENTAGE. DAMN!

the battery should go until 0% to see the clear winner beacause things could had change...
So the left 22% can at any level outcompete the left 50% on HTC or S7 ??
That seems impossible
+Khalid Sabry No, but the G5 tends to die ridiculously fast when under 40%. Z5 tends to hold its charge very well under 10%. It could still go many ways with the droids as I suspect that the HTC 10 will drop down a place and make the s7 come on top. Keep in mind that they are using the shitty s7 and not the EU/Asia version which lasts many hours longer.
They're using the international s7, it says in the description.
CPU throttling and minimising background tasks/processes. this usually happens when a phones battery is very low. they should've kept it going until the end.
Actually some phones tends to hold its charge under 10% so. agree, they should let the battery completely die.
I watch battery life videos all the time and this is by far the best layout I've seen. Dividing the screen up into squares and showing the battery percentages in a bar makes it super easy to see exactly what's going on. All videos should use this format
Test should run until the batteries run out. Then you measure time. Never trust battery percentage.
true
Why not.. The result was still fairly consistent after the second part of the test and I don't think it would change much from there.

I must say this set of videos has been the best out of all of the top tech channels on YT. If every couple of months you do a top 6/8 smartphones and run these same tests it would be amazing. Always nice to have a video point of reference on which phones runs the best in real world tests. Just please in future can you run the test untill the all die so we can clearly see which has the longest run time.
Would be great if you could add the S7 edge and the 6s plus.!
and the huawei mate 8 hahaha
Do a GAMING BATTERY TEST. Then check heat.
This is exactly the type of battery test everyone wants! Amazing video guys! Seriously freaking love this. First world problem is solved for me.
Do it till the phone is dead
some issues:
the drop of battery 1.precentege is not linear, so you its not accurate to rely on 2 hours of SOT. you should do it from 100% to 0%.
2. the maximum brightness is not the same for each phone, smartphones with a better brightness will drain more battery. you should use a light meter, and adjust the brightness for each phone to be the same.
Happy to see HTC winning here...
Try repeating the test with S7 edge(EXYNOS), NEXUS 6P and iPhone 6s Plus, coz these are the real game changers now when it comes to the battery performance
this test although already impractical, was made worse by the fact that you set the phones to maximum brightness.THey should all be set to the same brightness level first.
This test is flawed. Having all screens at 100% brightness makes this video completely inaccurate. All these phones have different nits for there 100% Brightness. The GS7 can go up to 700 nits. As far as I know the HTC 10 doesn't even go to 500 nits. So honestly the GS7 whens because as far as I know it gets the brightest out of all of them and still is in 2nd for this test being inaccurate.
+Blessed Red use the device at the same conditions. An average user doesn't care about "What if or what is device is capable of" . All people care about is how long the battery lasts with my use.
+Muayyad Al-Mulla True but most people won't have their brightness at a 100% if they surely don't need it. My phone gets upwards of 700 nits. Why would I need to have it at 700 nits all the time? Even in broad daylight it's overkill. They should've measured the brightness and put them all at a decent brightness like 200-300 nits and did the battery test. With 1 phone at 500 nits another at 350 and one at 630 the results will be null and void. The best thing to do is to make the test as equal as possible.
+Blessed Red to be, the test should have been made in auto brightness. most people use auto anyways.
+Muayyad Al-Mulla True but in auto brightness there still differences. And to be fair with the S7 you can still use the slider to choose what you prefer in regular lighting situations.
+Blessed Red HTC 10 is LCD, GS7 is AMOLED.... HTC 10 has more power to run, and still get 1st place
You can mix the "actions" taken on the phones for a more real life test (send 100 text messages on a free chatting app like Kakaotalk, Watch 1 movie with volume turned up half way, browse the internet for 30 minutes, download / uninstall 20 apps from the PlayStore, and run a graphical benchmarking tool) This is just a suggestion / idea
Full brightness is not that fair you should balance the actual brightness of each phone to be equal not the setting
+kc3vv exactly what i said, at 100% S7 is around 480 nits, the HTC 10 is at 380
+kc3vv consider yourself outdoors, which one would last longer?
the question outdoor is which would be brighter and more visible & its the S7 since it can go up to 800 nits :)
+FalconFX We are not testing screen differences. If devices are used at the same settings, you get the result at a given instance and condition. Now use the number of cores to find another excuse.
Muayyad Al-Mulla well with that analogy, lets just use the GS7 with power saving mode and the others without and call the S7 a winner, the test must be done under the same conditions, its no mister that the S7 has both a more efficient chip and screen, look up any other Battery test and you will find The S7 beating pretty much every device out there
Nice test procedure. I have two M8's, an iPhone 6, iPhone 5c, and Galaxy S7 Edge. Was considering the HTC 10, so this video is very relevant.
Amazing test. I would suggest the following for the ultimate test: the idea is simulating normal use, as much as possible. Let's say you set some percentage to each task, for example: idle 55%, browsing 15%, calling 5%, text messaging 15%, emailing 5%, gaming 5%. Then you should run these tasks, cycling through them with the given percentage of time (you might replace percentage by minutes). I would also set a "normal" brightness (set the screen bright enough, to a setting where all models look more or less the same). I guess this test could be done with some automation apps like Tasker.
HTC 10 the king in every departments
Not camera
+Hunter Miller 10 camera is the best cause it's very natural whereas the rest looks like fake and having make up on
+Farid Amin It's the best to you not everyone
+Hunter Miller cause I'm handsome and want my natural look, not a camera that puts make up on my face
Farid Amin If you are talking about front camera's then the 6p wins it's got the most detail thanks to its 8mp front camera
thank you for these test series, I wish the nexus 6p was there too tho
I don't get one major aspect of these battery tests. Isn't it a better comparison to set all of them to the same brightness value rather than setting them all to max brightness ? It seems like the reported values are very flawed !
You have to do something about the brightness. Set them all at the same brightness. Otherwise it's not fair to some phones that are capable of hitting high brightness levels.
Surely, all of them are under same conditions including same brightness level !!
Very useful guys.well done on the 3 videos.I recommend to make speaker test for the 6 phones.Speaker tests with respect to how loud the speakers and quality of the sound.Well done again
Which phone is the brightest? You should set the brightnes about 200 nit whic gsmarena does.
+Muhlis Goktas LG got the brightest, all of these phones beat the HTC 10 in term of brightness, this guy doesnt know how to do a battery test.
+trilingualkid LG looked the dimmest though.
+Phanteus yes I agree with you
Phanteus you cant justify that by looking at video. numbers dont lie
trilingualkid what numbers? where are the numbers?
HTC Really GOOD !!!!!
The BEST PHONE Ever !!!!!
you did a great job testing these flagship.
Great video, but you guys should really try to set all the phones to the same screen brightness
+Pier Galeone I completely agree.
They did, he said max brightness on all of them
+daviddaaannggg Even at max brightness, different phones have varying levels of brightness (measured in nits).
+daviddaaannggg The HTC 10 peaks at 370 nits while the LG G5 has 816 nits at max brightness. the brighter a phone is, the more is being drawn to maintain that brightness
Andy Cheng that's on automatic brightness, for the G5. It doesn't get anywhere near that on manual max brightness.
hTC 10 FTW good job
should remove 6s and include 6s plus
....why?
if you're gonna change it to 6s+ then the Samsung will change to the S7 edge too.
+Paolo Armadoro It has a bigger battery
+Paolo Armadoro Because all the smartphones have battery >2800mAh, the iphone 6s have 1715mAh, so, the correct will be compare with iphone 6s plus (1080p resolution and 2800mAh battery)
+Vatsal Gada Yeah... and while youre on that include the s7 edge too.
Interesting video. Apart from full brightness what other settings did you turned ON/OFF ? As i am thinking to do similar test on my 950XL running latest Redstone build.
tks. this is a really practical video, simple, short, but straight- to- point.
love your videos, but please do the speed test again.
this really is the useful video, we need more stuff like this
Screens need to be at the same brightness level for this test to be accurate and reliable.
no it doesn't ... the screen is not the problem ... touchwiz is not efficient...buy an htc 10 and dont cry
+jad hzim I get 7 hours of screen on time on my S7 Edge. Hold this 🍞
+jad hzim No it doesn't?! Can u explain that dumbass fanboy??
+Blessed Red i got almost double the time on my m8 (~12h, auto brightness)
+Ahrquint Doubt it. unless you used some sort of power bank or case with a battery. Nice try that old ass phone would never do those numbers 😂
The S7 on a 100% brightness is almost 500nits, the HTC is 380nits, That's a significant difference, you should have made the test on the same brightness level instead of percentage
had an htc, now I have a galaxy best phone brands in my opinion
Would love to see how the Nexus 6P stacks up with this crowd.
HTC has really made the perfect smartphone this time. Kudos to them! :D
Nope. Although it's a good phone, it's nowhere near to perfect.
Something is really fishy here....
1:29 - HTC loads Rainbow page (1st page)
1:32 - iPhone loads Rainbow page (1st page)
1:37.5 - iPhone already loaded 2nd page
1:40 - HTC started loading 2nd page
1:42.5 - iPhone alraedy loaded 3rd page
How does your script work? Does it open the next page as soon as the previous one finished loading? I believe you should open the next page in 10s (or any other fixed) interval. This means faster CPU is a plus (loads the page quicker, let's you read it the rest of the time). In your test faster CPU seems to be a bad thing for battery - if the CPU is faster, it loads a lot more pages during the same time frame as when compared to slower phone. More pages = more CPU load and more battery drain.
definitely need a phone call test
It makes much more sense to use the 6s Plus as that phone's screen size is actually closer to the other phones' sizes than the normal 6s is. Right now, these android phones are 0.5 - 0.6 inches bigger than the 6s. If the 6s was used, then its screen would be 0.2 - 0.3 inches bigger than the rest, which is a much more fair comparison. However, I think both 6s models and both S7 models should be included as reference, maybe try 8 panels next time if possible?
Hi James I would have liked to see what happened when iPhone 6S went into low power mode after it reached 20% battery remaining. Great review, thanks!
+Jacob Timchak thanks Jacob. I have an HTC A9 and iPhone SE. Id like to see the batteries run completely down and a line chart to show the battery power decay. Also a full charge from flat then a full discharge and compare times.
This test's results are a bunch of balls. The S7 has the brightest screen out of any of the phones in the video.
+Dan Cook if you look at it like that, screen-brightness wise, the test was balls, but then again, in a real-life scenario I'm not going to use my phone in a controlled environment. Because of this, what maters to me more is a real-life scenario test, then a controlled environment test. Meaning in a real-life scenario, the HTC would indeed last longer then the S7.
Philip Petrovski In a real-life scenario, nobody would run a web script for hours on end.
***** exactly my point. In real life you wouldn't use your phone in a controlled environment.
more detailed battery test, containing not only web browsing, but using social media apps as well.a great video nevertheless.
Do a battery test with iPhone 6S, Samsung S7 Edge and Sony Xperia Z5 premium
If you use 6S Plus it will kill those competitors phone. I get almost 8-9hrs screen of time with my average use on my 6s plus.
They obviously weren't testing phablets idiot... 🍞
Same here
+cheschanco - Gaming Channel then they could have take s7 edge too which is 3600mah
and the Samsung s7 edge would of destroyed that shit phone with 3600Mh
+Blessed Red What do you mean? Most of apples size comes from the bezels on the device. Yes it does have a 5.5 inch screen, but it's funny. The other devices all had 5.2 and 5.3 inch screens, with the smallest being 5.1.
Last I checked, mathematically, 5.5 is closer to 5.2 and 5.3 than 4.7 is to 5.1/2/3. Do you not disagree?
I mean, this is basic arithmetic at this point. A large screen size allows you to cram in more battery, and it's been proven that Android on a whole is more inefficient. Wouldn't you agree that it would have been smarter to test a 2750 mAh battery against 2800-3000 mAh batteries? Purely to see how things fared.
If you don't agree, you have an inherent bias and should not make comments.
Thinking about the latest Nougat 7.0 and iOS 10.3 what would u say now on their battery life and optimizations of the S7 & iPhone 6S? Perhaps do a retest as it would be interesting to know with all the various updates & optimisations.
the biggest test of all the Music quilty test
They have the best phones from each company. They should have included the S7 Edge and the 6S Plus for a more interesting result.
This not very realistic battery test for several reasons. First, screen brightness isn't calibrated to the same level. Second, browser isn't the same on all devices...install Chrome on all smartphone should be easy. We can imagine different cache size, CAF or even cloud-computing browsing (as Qualcomm got patents), CPU load could be different between browsers. Third, Kryo is not as powerfull as A72 or Moongoose (forget geekbench and see JavaScript tests on regular browser or even speed tests), but consumption is better. This test push A72/Moongoose at full speed all the time. In a day use, this will never happen...low-power A53 will run most of the time on Mate 8/S7. Test protocole doen't fit to real-use. Your speed test fit to real-use, you should try to imagine a battery test which fit too...
S7 has the brightest screen thou
I understand the battery simulation but make no mistake, in real life the GS7 dies on standby quicker than all those phones...My iPhone 6s' battery lives much longer. The only way it a GS& could survive according to your test is literally if power saving is on. I can't stand how horrific its battery is. Been using it for nearly 1 month now and it hurts every single day...
Funny how the Samsung and htc10 websites weren't moving but the iPhone and other phones were having bright colors and videos playing unfair advantage
do complete battery test and the water test of these best phones
the best honest review!!!
All the smartphones have battery >2800mAh, the iphone 6s have 1715mAh, so, the correct will be compare with iphone 6s plus (1080p resolution and 2800mAh battery), and also use the S7 Edge.
Please measure the brightness, put all of them on the same... Some of the displays are brighter than the othrrs.
That would be very unfair as the S7 has over double the maximum brightness of the HTC 10 and almost all other flagships.
Rewatch the video, at :31 seconds he said they put all phones at their full brightness.
Johnathon C
Not their full brightness, at the same brightness...
The htc 10 has 16.7% more battery left then the phone in 2nd place. Or if you turn it the other way around the phone in 2nd place has 14.3% less battery left then the htc 10.
Good Idea. But d'ont forget to do like this to the new smartohones every year
Thank's
You should've included the S7 edge. It has a 3600 mAh battery I would've loved to see how it compares to the other phones
doesnt make sense ..should bring the nexus 6p and iphone 6s+ then
Set all phones to same lux lumens or whatever so its also constant not just max
Interesting test, though as other have said, it probably doesn't reflect real life use that well due to difference in screen brightness in all the phones. These tests, like speed tests, are fun to watch, but don't always demonstrate real world usage. Surprised the S7 didn't win this.
Y'all sleep on htc, that phone there is solid
No matter what optimizations apple does, you can't make a 1715 mah battery perform as good as a 3000 mah. Not everything can be fixed with software tricks.
+Jacob Timchak
What a reply bro. People mention 40% smaller battery of iPhone but no one mentions 250% less resolution screen. Iphone fan boys poor logic. Thumbs up.
you should let them drained down to 10 percent because i found that for galaxy s7, it takes much much longer than other phones to drop the battery from 20% to 10%
hey💪 nice job !!!! just do like about have long time they can run the games for battery test 😆
I fail to understand why you used the Z5 and the benchmark for the snapdragon 810 instead of the Nexus 6P.
Samsung Galaxy s7 edge-best camera best battery and best design shiniest display and the second best speed.Overall-Best!!!!!!
Why didn't you use the phone until the battery gets 0%???????????? That video is not complete!!!!!!
What happened to Sony's '2 day battery life?' Lel
+nawaz2kx more like 2 days on standby lol
Not a fair comparison because the iPhone 6s is not Apple's flagship device it's the 6s plus
You should calculate with screen resolution, battery capacity as well.
Can you test them watching UA-cam and the charging time for each one of them
My S7 Edge (Snapdragon 820) is currently showing 38% left after 28 hours 53 minutes with 1h 13m SOT and always running max brightness. I'll have some battery left when I wake tomorrow morning. Crazy!
it's not crazy... If you just used 1 hour the phone, your results are just average
+Melbourne Dauz (xMelBurNx) I would say a little bit below average.
s7 edge have not a snapdragon 😂😂😂
Michael Spörk Yes it does ...
You can increase your knowledge easly browsing on Google...
This test would have been better to watch if you tested the 6s plus and the s7 edge. s7 edge would have blown all of them out of the arena.
You NEED to run your test down to ZERO. After an hour the amount left can be anything the Manufacturer wants to put left.
can you please compare s7 edge exynos vs snapdragon battery on youtube and gaming because i wont to buy it and i want to know which one last longer and should I order europe model.thanks
Tech radar you should do a speaker test and which phone offers the best call quality.
Why not test till they are completely flat?
could you this another one with iPhone SE. Btw, cool vid
Why not use the S7 Edge? No one cares about the small edge-less version.
Why cut off in the middle of the test? WTH
You would test how long can listen to music with using spotify or deezer app
Which software version was on the Z5 ?
A lot of hurt Samsung fans in these comments. Just take the L. This isn't the first battery test where the HTC 10 beat the Samsung Galaxy S7
+Syon If the phones were all on the same brightness/Nits and not only webbrowsing but also video and phone calling would have been tested, the Galaxy S7 would have won. Especially if the S7edge would have been used.
And btw AMOLED displays uses most of its battery with the colour white, if a black theme browser would have been used, the battery life would have been much better on the S7.
www.gsmarena.com/htc_10-review-1434p3.php
www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s7-review-1408p3.php
+Slash310579 certainly some conditions will favor one phone over the other. The reality is there aren't many widely used commercial websites that are black themed and setting all the phones to full brightness makes for a better test than letting them all sit at auto brightness. There are more battery tests out there which use different conditions. The Galaxy did well in this test but you can't win them all.
this phones drain so much my NOTE 5 every 1 hour 15% it takes me more than 6 hours. if i close data nearly 9hours
so happy this phone .
cadarus cabdiraxmaan something like that with my s7 edge
where is the rest of the test.......?????
why not run to the end. seem when they all run out of battery. the percentage is quit misleading.. for it's not linear.
Next time, add in the battery saver please. I'm curious how long it would last
+SuperDoggykong doubt it,each phone battery saving is very diverse and has different options but with the most extreme power saver mode the S7 would win and maybe the htc right behind it
Should have had the S7 edge, 6s Plus and Nexus 6p
if you can do same test with iPhone 6s plus, galaxy s7 edge (snapdragon 820, exynos 8890), nexus 6p.
the best smartphone of apple now is 6s+, and samsung is s7edge. why u use s7 and 6s? it's not fair
The iPhone 6s has the worst battery and the HTC has the best but if would put the s7 edge in that test it would win
Yay!! HTC 10 wins!!!!! xxxxxx
You should have used the iPhone 6S Plus, then it would be fair!
next Smartphone battery test please, iPhone 6s plus and S7 Edge pls
DRAWN THE BATTERY OF COURSE
great idea, not so great implementation. different phones have very different max brightness level. you should set them all not to 100% brightness, but measure and set it at 100 nit for all of the contesters
it would of helped if you used the Samsung Galaxy S7 EDGE it has a bigger battery than the regular s7
But then they would have used the iPhone 6s Plus, Nexus 6P, etc. I think they were going for the smaller variant phones, not phablets.
