Sanctuary is the opening theme song of Kingdom Hearts II and Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days. It is sung and written by Utada Hikaru. Its Japanese counterpart is called Passion, and it reached #2 in the Oricon Singles Chart in 2006.

“What’s left of me now?” This is definitely Roxas’ theme to me. His life as a nobody has always been a half life. And I would ask the same thing if I was the product of another and my life was that of a shell.
I hope he found his sanctuary back with Sora again. He really deserves it.

I'm a big fan of the first KH game. So I been having KH2 for as long I can remember so yesterday I decided to fire up my PlayStation 2 to give the game a try. My son past away over the weekend on on the 19 and dearly beloved has always held a very big place in my heart. And I heard this song yesterday the 24 for the first time and I weep so hard when I heard this song my son fought for an hour and a half for his life and I this song really just destroyed me inside because like roxas sed in the beginning of the game and this song came up. It was a wrap for me my heart broke but I felt him in my thoughts and my heart and soul. I miss him so much it just insane how much KH music really help me with the messages and meaning of these song. May God watch over all those infants and children who don't have a chance to take a breath in this world as they take flight to there sanctuaries which would be a far off memories in our hearts.

I mean....I used to play this game when I was a kid with my best friend at the time. We shared so many awesome memories .....and wed always cry when this song would ever come up. Hes the only one who understands the emotions tied with it. I wish I knew we weren't gonna be friends shortly after. I haven't seen him in so long. I don't know if he's okay or not. I hope he is. This song breaks my heart. I love it so much.

I grew up with Kingdom hearts 2 because my first game console was a PlayStation 2 so I know this song by heart and I still cannot sing it without feeling like I want to cry because it just makes me think of my childhood

When I hear this song, this makes me question myself and the things I have stumbled upon in my life. Who am I? Why am I here? What is the definition of being whole and true. It always feels like something was missing. Now, I always have to look into the present, let go of the past, and never forget the memories that we hold dear.
I have many memories, but one (personally, can't tell any of you because it will personally get me in a lot of trouble with the world), taught me the lessons of life and friendship. One thing I learned from both the life and friendship is that you can always count on your friends and beloved family to help you. 6 certain friends of mine have given me and taught the meaning of friendship, so it's about time that I spread it loud and clear for all to hear.... I think the thing about a sanctuary that melts away lies and fears is what represents Kingdom hearts itself, because it's shown to be, at least through the villains, something that many people find important and as a tool to fix issues. But also considering the fact that Kingdom hearts 2 was the game that introduced Roxas as basically sleeping Sora so to speak I believe the song has some kind of weird escapism If I remember correctly the song had a lot to do with nominee which makes a lot of sense if you think about it. You can mostly tell kind of what the song is alluding to by the opening sequence in the game. I can't do a lyrical by lyric analysis in the comments here but I can definitely tell you that from my perspective at least from when I was like six that this song definitely tied into the game and a lot of ways when it came to the storyline of Kingdom hearts as a whole but also a lot of the pinpoints specifically related to Roxas and nominee as well as the nobodies most of which were introduced in the second game
All I can say is I personally prefer the song a lot more than face my fears
also, combining all 3 songs results to a couple's story that's seemingly realistic to the struggles of being in a troubled relationship. maybe this story is related to why Sora and Kairi keep getting pulled apart constantly out of nowhere plot wise.
@@GFHCyan Maybe, but this song is canonically about the reunion of Sora & Riku. I thought so too before I read the interview about it. If I'm not mistaken tho, the crossed arms thing that Sora & Kairi do like in the art in the cave, or the scene in KH3, that's meant to represent that theme of constantly being apart.

It's interesting how different this version is from the Japanese, in terms of tone and what's said. Passion seems a little more romantic and intimate. I really love both versions.

I think that the lyrics are meant to be for roxas and riku cause:
"I watch you fast asleep, all I fear means nothing" Its like riku look at Sora sleeping and said that to him cause his biggest fear now is to lose his best friend
And: "you show me how to See, that nothing is whole and nothing is broken" Seems like Roxas last thought about Axel. He always was his best friend and the one who thaught him everything.
