Us melanated women look younger longer. But we still are aging. I’m in menopause and nobody talks about that really. Hair turning grey down below hit me hard for a minute. Now I don’t worry about it. I think I’m oversharing. But I’m 60 and reaching this age I’ve stopped giving a bleep about what ppl think a long time ago. I’ve accepted aging. I take care of myself and enjoy my family and friends.

I’m almost 61 and have NEVER looked better! I eat seven servings of vegetables every day, and it is doing wonders for my skin and hair. My hair has actually stopped growing in gray! I work out, doing a combination of Pilates, weightlifting, and walking. Also, mobility and flexibility is high on my list. There is a 45 year old on my job who’s been chasing the hell out of me for the past three years 😅. Thankfully, I have a husband who can’t keep his hands off of me. If I can impart anything, ladies, it’s eat well and manage your insulin, even if you aren’t diabetic. You truly are what you eat. If at all possible, stay away from HRT. Do your research and use high-quality supplements to help balance your hormones and maintain your energy. Last tip… Increase your vitamin D. You’ll sleep better, and it will beautify your skin.
Keep doing what you’re doing, Eva. You’re killing it!

I live in a shelter with my children because I don't have family and my next step is to just begin to build my life. No more bf or kid's father's......I am ready to have my own.

I personally feel age is just a number. I know this is cliché, but I also truly believe we are as old as we feel. I turned 58 in December. I look damn good and feel damn good. I work out, eat healthy, I don’t do stress, I don't do gray hair, got a damn divorce and I am living my best damn single life. If I had to turn back the hands of time, I would not go back. Also, menopause for me was not bad at all because I was in the gym five days a week. I never had hot flashes, mood swings or any of the symptoms associate with menopause. Aging is inevitable, but how one take care of themselves in their younger years will largely dictate how one feel and look in their older years.

Lol about the menopause because I tell you, personally I am waiting for that moment to come cuz I'm so over it and besides, I've already got my kids so...I don't think I'd have anything major to worry about either in regards to symptoms. I never had any morning sickness during pregnancy with any of my children and the like or seem to experience typical ailments that women can experience as we age. I also work out daily and have been the same size throughout my adult life. I'm 46 going on 47 this year. I've also had the same approach to age. Really I've always embraced getting older in the same fashion because for one it's inevitable and for two I always feel more sophisticated and like there's more that I can do and explore with my life based on the knowledge that I've gained over the years.

By 40 or 45, I had to work a teeny bit harder. I started making a paste of Ambi and olive oil and applying it (only) to frown lines that were starting at my nose. I started doing eye exercises daily gently tapping a little puffiness that wanted to turn into undereye bags. That was it for my face. Aging reversed. At 45, you are actually still young. Committed physical exercise will hold your body into your mid 60s.
Now that I'm 68 (70 for all intents and purposes), I am finally beginning to see a change and a more mature look. At this stage I welcome it and It's not a big deal. I just wish women in their 40s realized that they have a long way to go before really beginning to show signs of aging. I remember when I was in my 40s and thought I was approaching over-the-hill. I was wrong. Just treat yourself with some extra kindness. I know several young women in their 30s who look quite a bit older than you. My 50 year-old daughter and my 44 year old daughter are mistaken for being 15 to 20 years younger than they actually are. You look great and there is a major element of truth in "black don't crack."

Sorry - long post. Must share.
@Eva, you look fantastic!🤩 @Renee, I'd bet you do too. This spring (lord willing) I will have another age milestone soon. Now I realize how young 40s was. Sidebar. Eva, I paused watching your channel for a short time because your taste in fragrance in so good & INSPIRING. I was running out of room to display my perfume collection - thanks to you💅 My YT feed was becoming a bit too toxic, so I started missing your overall creative content & sense of feminine fashion, so I came back and you're still just as lovely, kind-hearted, upfront honest and very relatable👸🏽✨ Kudos. Back to aging. I rarely bring up age in a conversation but I notice how other people do (esp Non-blacks) tossing out their age first (related aches or illnesses) as bait to be comparative or just down right curious/nosey🙃 If I feel like playing the game they're usually very shocked & quickly change subjects😅 I'm blessed and grateful🙏🏾 BPeople know what that melanin do🖤✨ BDC BlackDontCrack.
I have clear skin and like you Eva, last year I started noticing at angles very slight jaw/temple hollowing, marionette lines, 2 faint forehead lines getting deeper from cycling outdoors, changes that I wanted to do something about BEFORE they set in. I stay aprx 130lbs so it's not yoyo diet or weight related. It's post meno loss of collagen and loss of (good) face fat. I see it, but no one else does. I decided to be open-minded to go beyond BDC🖤✨ vaseline and shea butter skin care. I put on my investigative hat and discovered Dr Rajani's great UNbiased YT channel. Subsequently, I discovered a DIY anti-aging community and to no surprise it is predominantly NON-black folks. I looked for content from us/BW - NOTHING on the same mass scale as this community. The DIY community is a hidden treasure trove of info. Info boils down to collagen NOT race. It's more commonplace for WWomen to start their Botox & filler "tweakments" by age mid 20-30s. The average BWoman doesn't want/need such anti-aging treatment that early. However, the info is about how to preserve/build collagen/elastin (not race) so I decide to LEARN - without judgement _Eat the meat and spit out the bones_ Anyway, there's SAFE non-surgical options like various _threads_ and other topical & meso skin boosters that causes the body to boost its own lost collagen and elastin - without the two, a % of lower face droop is inevitable, esp post meno. With some treatments the dreaded puffy Filler-Face is avoidable🤡 I've not had filler - yet??🤔 but if a (non-celebrity) BW did choose it - more power to her _just a DAB_ of filler, PLLA sculptra can likely do wonders for melinated skin. Microneedling, Red/Blue light therapy can lift & tighten saggy skin. Threads of various composition PDO PLLA PCL also lift sag and/or rebuild lost collagen & elastin. HRT Hormone Replacement Therapy can address all the symptoms of meno. Flashes, low s3x drive, dry VJ, irritability, muscle loss, sleeplessness etc.
I had no idea even after you stop flashing🔥POST meno symptoms can last more than TEN years beyond flashes, so for some women that's into mid 60s early 70s.
No wonder we can feel funky at times. I've learned a LOT in a short time! Anyway,
I was brave enough to place just two small pdo threads in each side of laugh lines. I had all this emotional drama hyping myself up and it was an uneventful dud. _It did NOT hurt at all!_ The next day, i saw a filling out of that hollow area😁 Not scared of the simple ones anymore.
I bought a good eBay $250 home quality spa unit (5 attachments) to do my own RF cavitation etc. Works great! Although a good esthetician is very valuable. I discovered that a lot of expensive treatments and products ARE available to the public and can be LEGALLY done at home with good results & great $avings.
Bottom line, I'm trying to _encourage BWomen to do their own research and to STOP allowing the BDC mindset to POLICE our beauty regimens_ I don't want to try looking 25/30 forever - can't, but I do want to stay looking my best and getting carded for buying wine at the grocery store🍷 There's NOTHING wrong with BWomen exploring their options to maintain their melaninated beauty - longer👸🏽 Ladies, do your research. DoYOU!
_sorry the post was so long_

I think the older a couple gets together that's just the natural order and evolution of the marriage as we age though. He IS going to need us for different things or reasons as his wife and same as we as wives get older and who better than our husband/wife of many years to help us through as we're growing old together? I think it's different if it were a man who played the field during his prime but suddenly decides to seek a woman to settle down with and find a place to nest once he's up in age and slowing down...maybe start to have failing health versus a man who was there to change your kids' diapers or even if there's no children between the couple, he showed his love, support, and devotion in various ways from the pursuit and throughout. In regards to "want" in relation to need in this context I guess it's the proverbial "I want to grow old with you" concept.

Many people talk about the physical challenges of aging but few talk about the mental challenges. Aging is a mental challenge. We spend the early parts of our life young and youthful, other people are the old people. Then one day you notice your reflection in the mirror and are stunned to see that YOU are aging, HOW can that be? Other people are old, not ME. Although we all know that we will age when it happens you are still surprised and some of us shocked by it. It becomes a mental challenge to accept that you are now one of the older ones at work, gym, waiting room.... I will turn 65 next month and I still can not believe that that number belongs to me. I have become more accepting of the fact that society now thinks of me as a senior citizen but Im still trying to accept it myself, even at 65. One other thing Eva if you read this, DO NOT BE AFRAID OF FAILURE, Life is an adventure. Don't be afraid of falling, its ok. Enjoy the ride. You go Girl !!!

My hair started turning gray in my 20s, so I colored and colored to "fix" my issue, or what I considered was my problem: my grays. Then, I learned about the damage I was doing to myself as the chemicals of dying my hair and perming my hair were entering my body. So, I stopped everything. I went natural. I began eating plant based. I learned to embrace my natural, gray hair, and I ate well. Result: I am

Thank you for this chat and discussing the realness of aging. I remember being the youngest person in my department and then it hit me that I have now become the older one . After one of the worst birthdays of my life last year I decided it’s time for change. I recently left my company of 15 years to start traveling for work and enjoying this new over 40 journey of my life. Kudos for stepping out and selling what you love for others to enjoy.

Yes yes yes.. I wasn’t the youngest but I wasn’t the oldest.. and I was so horribly bullied and mistreated for the 6 years of working in my present company (in my 11th year now). I’ve been thru and have come thru quite a bit here… including had a child, and survived postpartum through the bullying.
And I am READY for a reset. 😳 Sending love to you..

Mentally you have to take extra steps 🚶‍♂️ to feeling better when are aging gracefully.

Wow! Eva….what a gripping video. I went back and forth while watching …. do I want to like this video or unlike. I agreed so strongly in areas and so disagreed in others. I wasn’t even going to comment for fear strangers who I’m not even talking to will try to start drama. I ultimately liked it because that’s what your videos are supposed to do….inspire “divas of a more mature age” to dig deeper, and you certainly did with this one.
I was always taught that we should never seek and make big decisions based on “happiness” because happiness is temporary and fleeting, and many people make major decisions looking for happiness, but ultimately miss out on long-term joy. I struggled with some of your reasoning, but concluded that you have to do what is best for you.
I truly wish you the best because you have inspired me so much that I can’t help but want the best for you.
I remember showing my mom one of your videos and keep in mind, I’m known as being the less than fashionable one in my family. It was your video about what every classy woman should have. You talked about having items like crisp white shirts and expensive sunglasses, etc. My mom knew I would never buy any of it, lol, but she was so happy I was following someone with style, and I now have a couple of very expensive sunglasses and a crisp white shirt, courtesy of your advice and my mom’s shopping habit.
I say all that to say I admire you in so many ways , and I truly wish you long-term permanent happiness, however that looks for you.
    Bless you,
    Tamara

God sent! I was praying asking for help with the decisions on my marriage, I think it's time to get out, I'm mentally exhausted. I turned on UA-cam, and you popped up and I haven't seen a video in months. I always looked at women in their 50s when I was younger getting divorced, dedicating their lives, and leaving with nothing. I always said don't let that be me, and here I am. I have so many variables this is my second marriage 20 years in, I am running a business trying to get to where it needs to be, I don't want to disappoint my son and family members. All while feeling like a shell of myself and I have to save myself. I'm just praying for strength to do what's right for me. Secondly, you are aging so beautifully, At 55, I know exactly what you are going through. I didn't see much in my 40s, but 50s things are showing up. I've always said there is something special about you.

Every person Ive met in my career ( over the past 20 yrs) who is aging very gracefully have the following in common:
    1. They have or always seek to have balanced health- spiritual, physical and psychological
    2. Have exercised consistently throughout their life.
    3. Have some sort of hobby or career that requires them to use their energy for a bigger cause.
They avoid toxic people and live life on their own terms. They dont live in a comparison state, but strive to become the best version of him/herself.
Some of these people may or may not employ the ‘topical’ treatments ( i.e. anti-aging creams, botox, plastic surgery or cosmetic procedures).
I work in one of the health care fields that people use to pursue antiaging advice. I have seen this for the past 20 yrs.

If you look at my early years pictures you’d think she bought them at a high end place. She always had me all dressy. She loves to sew, but she stopped because she realized that purchasing clothing was cheaper and no time spent. Your right, do what you love. I always say that we are only here for less then 100yrs each. So don’t go without being happy about ourselves. Yes, this thinking comes as we start aging.

This has been my thought process on aging, which started in my mid-forties. Im now 63. No surprise your in the midst of this right now. I started noticing some body parts going south, weight that wouldnt come off as easy as before, thinning hair, dryer skin, a little sag in the cheeks and so on and so forth. I made up my mind real quick, do the work to change it (exercise, better eating, blah, blah, blah) or accept that your aging and do it gracefully. NO bad-mouthing yourself. The way I saw it, I had my time in the sun since my teenage years, looking fab, being desired, being chased and having fun. I enjoyed myself to the max!! I'm in my 2nd marriage ( going on 30 yrs). I definitely keep myself presentable, but I'm not gonna chase youth, been there done that. I have loved, loved every passing decade. The wisdom, the peace, the I dont give a &%$# what anyone thinks just keeps getting better. My early 40's were my most self-critical years ever. I was unhappy and blaming it on everyone else (especially my hubby), until I realized it was me. I almost asked for a divorce - thats how unhappy I was feeling (mid- life crisis is real). I would have missed out on the best years of my marriage, even better than the earlier hot and heavy years). Everyone has a different back story so each will handle it differently. One thing though we each gotta do, get right with yourself. Take honest inventory, get counseling, start knowing yourself like never before, in mind and soul. Dig deep and clear out the past, or nothing or nobody is gonna make you happy. ❤❤❤❤ to all of us fabulous women on our aging journey!!

I think being concerned about aging is a new privilege for Black women. I was single mom with no child support, so I had to focus on just making ends meet for 25 years. When I married my current husband money was no longer an issue. Suddenly I began to find flaws in my appearance. I’m now concentrating on counting my blessings & looking as best I can at my age. My best friends all died young, so the fact that I’m still here & healthy (with a few aches 😂 ) is a blessing! You are gorgeous. Take a look at your younger self & realize how beautiful you were & didn’t even know it. In 10 years you’ll feel that same way when you look at photos from today. Enjoy yourself!

Great commentary Eva. I have missed you. Aging process…it is different for each of us. Based on lifestyle, girl we all have stuff going on. Marriage…I relate to you more than I’d like to admit. You said, I love him, but am not in love with him. To me that just means it is a varied, mature relationship where you care deeply, don’t want nothing bad to happen to each other, but you need some space to be you. Wifey can’t be his everything all the time. If he can respect that, it might be worth it to keep him. Lack of passion many times can be an issue on both sides. This is an indicator that a change of scenery & edifying love languages need work. Or…things may have run their course. I feel you on many levels. But to answer your question, quite frankly I’m afraid of surgery, however since I’ve been into skin stuff practically all my life, I use a lot of the gadgets, like red light tech items, gua sha, cupping, and mechanical face massagers. Don't feel bad about UA-cam. White women get more views in almost every subject area: celebrity, beauty, commentary, etc. In my opinion, there probably aren't more Black women speaking on aging because we already have a number of "strikes" against us. We have to build ourselves and each other up from guys in the manosphere. We have to heal from our past traumas and figure out how to navigate continuing community trauma, we have to redefine what beauty is for ourselves. . .

Ms. Eva. I've been sewing for a VERY long time, so I can speak on sewing for others. You are right, people do not respect the time, effort & care that goes into bespoke couture. That is why I rarely sew for others now. In other news - I like what you did with your fabric; wrapping it around boards and displaying it in fabric-store style👍🏾. You should create "Thee Eva Monroe Collection" with custom labels & everything. As for getting older...moisturize, moisturize, MOISTURIZE! Eat better and stay active, both mentally & physically. Looks like you have those things on lock! 🤩

Thank God for Grace. I'm 66, five years in AML remission, yes arthritis and his family visits often. But I say that to say this, take care of yourself, love yourself, pamper yourself and be thankful. Each morning regardless of the weather I step out on my patio and thank God for his unconditional love and for this gorgeous day. Oh yes marriage is business in loved. Let God be the CEO. Share the gift God gave you, consult God in all things not people. Blessings

Please stop doubting yourself the pieces you showed are Amazing 🤩 I’m proud of you 👏🏾 I’m getting ready to start my retail resale business and I’m absolutely afraid of failure it’s almost like the fright or flight syndrome And I got two more ventures I also want to do And creating my own clothing brand & making clothing by hand. Then owning my own curated Vintage Shop doing it all by myself is exciting and terrifying. Let the doubt be your motivation. Wishing you nothing but success ❤️💯🙏🏾

I love my mind at 56yrs young. I know discernment, hope and inner fulfillment. I am single, never married. Had a baby at 21yrs and raised him on my own, and made lots of sacrifices to be the best Mom. After my son left home, I was then free to travel spontaneously, take sabbatical and more focus on myself and am loving life. I work less, and rest, read and explore more. Every day is worth living however you choose to live. I love time with grandchildren. I think moderation is the key. Healthy diet, moderate exercise and enough sleep are also key. Forgive and let go, and move on

Hey Eva, Glad you're doing okay. I wish you so much success in your endeavors. You are alright with me twin sis( same bday). One thing about us is you really don't have to "wonder" anything because we will tell you. We do "over share" but I think we just be keeping it real. When we speak on our experiences it's how we feel at that moment. I'm about to write a Soliloquy 😂😂 so I'll spare you. But you do you. Be happy 🪴🌞🥰💓

Great video. We don’t talk about it. I was just asking an older friend about tips last night at an event because I don’t really have anyone to talk with about peri- menopause. This is my 45th year and I’m also looking forward to a reinvention. It’s been brewing in me. Great conversation and I personally think you should have more videos like this. And kudos on moving forward with your passion. Proud of you and for you. 😍

Thank you for this video. I just subscribed to your channel and I am grateful that I found you. We do not have enough women our age and color speaking our truth. I’ve been noticing that I have changed and have been changing since I turned 41. Now 45 I’ve realized that I am different and it’s ok. I have changed how I eat, make sure I get enough sleep, bi weekly facials, I exercise 5 days a week to include light weight lifting. Keep doing what you do. Keep getting the message out. I appreciate you

Eva, thanks for speaking on our aging challenges. Our mother’s/grandmother’s didn’t pass those needed pearls of wisdom. We appreciate you pulling back the veil of silence and encouragement for us to do the same. And having the courage to make those ‘adjustments’ to slow aging. I’m trying peels, retinol, vitamin C serum etc. tried blading. I thought about some minor face lifts, I don’t have wrinkles but the face does have a slight sag. Congratulations on your new ventures!

Hey Eva! Glad to hear that you are finding your happy. My 60th birthday hit me hard. Never had any concerns about my age before, but something about the 6-0 just sounded so freaking old. I still have my moments when I can't believe I'm in my 60's but it's better than the alternative and I still feel like I'm in my 30's. Having a hubby that's a few years younger doesn't hurt either!

55 and married almost 19 yrs, together almost 23. I'm the same, I'm vocal and want to know the goings on and he is opposite. Don't want to go nowhere or do shit. I'm over it. Am I leaving? No, I'm just about to start living MY life. Got 2 trips planned and soon as the weather break here in the Chi. I'm going outside.

I started watching your channel because I enjoyed learning about your perfume collection, and then I learned we both love gardening. But really what hits home lately is that overall you are such a creative + artistic person with a drive to be/stay happy + to get a lot out of life. Thank you also for sharing honestly about the aging process + relationships. I am a little older and am surprised equally by how freeing it is to « come into myself » and care less what people think while also being surprised by how this aging thing ain’t for wimps. You are brilliant-keep knowing that (I hope you charge at least $250-$400 for your handmade + stunning pieces).
