Another great review! I switched to orbits from evo sls partly after watching your videos and started pulling kiteloops on my first session! Super happy! Thanks for the great videos!
Another great review! I’m loving my 2024 orbit and I like the changes. I like the increased hangtime from the slightly slower loop. The orbit for me is a kite that just feels intuitive. It does what I want when I want it
I really appreciate your honesty and openness about your experiences with duotone. Nowadays a seldom thing to find where nearly everybody is sponsored in any way and uses YT as marketing platform. This gives your channel incomparable value. Cheers and thx mate!
I think it's very good that you're addressing problems with material quality. I'm just about to buy new equipment (my current kites are still from 2014-2016 and are just getting old), but I read the same thing about all the kites I'm interested in. North Orbit 2023 -> explodes randomly (in the latest reel of Jamie overbeek you can see even a 24 pro model just pop mid air in the background) Duotone dice sls / Evo Dlab -> same thing. A lot of stories were they just give up on the tube. I think it’s worth a discussion if the performance gains of the „new“ lightweight approaches are worth the risk of a potential serious injury.
I think the orbit pro in Jamies video is on the flagline. It is holding shape and falling quickly. If it explodes it will fall slower. The 2023 orbits from a bad batch are replaced under warranty.
Yes in the reel it’s hard to tell, because it’s so far away and it could also just be the kite turning in the wind. And yes there was a recall of the 23 model, but at least in the forums and on Facebook you could read that even some new kites out of that recall did break again. I just have the feel in general (without a focus on a particular brand), that with the lightweight design choices the kites are more delicate, and that’s not the greatest feel when you want to boost 20m high. So for now I’m a little bit lost in my purchases choice.
Yes please for reviewing the OR 5s Flite. I have 2 Aluula Flites in 14.5 and 17. Best light air kites I’ve flown. I’m not a huge fan of Ocean Rodeo designs, but once you go Aluula it’s hard to go back to Dacron. I’m so disappointed about the EVO d-lab issues! I was going to start building my EVO quiver next. My buddy say’s his EVO D-lab 10m is the best kite he’s ever flown! Luckily, he hasn’t had issues. But his friends have had struts come apart while riding on their EVO d-labs! 🤦♂️ I have Flysurfer Souls I use for water and snow, but with Aluula, I’m wanting to use tube kites for water now. I haven’t known anyone to have issues with their A-series Ocean Rodeo kites. I wonder what the heck is going on with Duotone.
Primo flat water and kickers sessions there - Orewa and Murawai at their best. Another great video update. As many have said in comments here, its awesome getting feedback that isn't paid/biased. Passion, enjoyment and fair + honest reviews --> what the industry needs. See you when you get back from Cape Town!
My first kites were duotone then switched to crazyfly and now riding core. After 4 years i gotta say core it's by bar the most reliable and durable also living in northern ireland where gusty winds are always in the menu the XRs perform sublime with their so called old tech pulleys
They certainly are one of the more durable kites, but you do need to keep your eyes on the bars as there are a few parts that deteriorate rather quickly, nothing like I’ve found with my trust bar mind you
@@jasonofmontrealthe parts that wear in Core bars are: A. obvious B. affordable and C. Easily replaced even by me! Note to Core Bar Owners: get the carbon centre lines for your 3S bars and be prepared for lift off!
Dutch guy here, ended up at core. I also have a juice dlab 13, the aluula is magic, but dt canopy material looks older after one summer then my xr6 11m after 3 years. I switch the pigtails on my core bar and avoid the dt bar. I do replace parts on my core bar, but it has never ever failed me.
Who knows if you are just testing to give us your opinion.or do you have other interests?😜😜🤣🤣🤭🤭 I know pro riders in person , they had never issues with their duotone equipment.and they ride day and night in strong conditions. Maybe you just got a bad trust bar ….just unlucky .☝🥴 I tried a orbit 12m , a reach 15m , a 12m Neo 2022 and one day i was flying my 15m F-one Breeze . After that I tried a 13m evo d lab from a friend …. I was so surprised about this kite. Amazing ! Unbelievable kite !!!! I ordered a new 12m Neo d lab and a 15 m demo juice d lab. Plus a new trust bar …..- can not wait to go kiting here / (Cape Verde) . I am from Germany and stay here for 6 month .let’s see ….☝🤙🏾🤙🏾
Watch all my reviews, I report what I find. You should also consider that the top pros like Andrea for example change bars every month, so they are not used to a lot of wear on gear... and many of pro riders compete with custom lines these days, I have seen this first hand at KOTA.
I hope that you could also take a look at the xr pro and the Harlem Force (Lorenzo Casati’s new kite). Would be really interesting. Love your videos! Keep the good work up!
Loving how your reviews cut through the marketing being pushed around by big brands while staying fair. It’s time brands provide best in class lines to go with those best in class kites.
I don't know why Duotone didn't just say, here are our standard lines for wave/foil, and here are some BIG AIR specific lines for $100 more... they'd sell a lot
@@jasonofmontreal I was thinking afterwards that if Brands started releasing a 'Pro' vs 'standard' set of lines the optics might suggest one is maybe safer than the other, since that's such a primary function of a bar compared to a kite, but creating a specific 'Big Air' line is definitely another good way to think of it without implying that you're sacraficing safety by going with the 'Surf' or 'foil' lines. Anyway great work with the reviews.
Hi, i am joining the big thank you train! Keep it up 🍻 I recently switched from XR6 to 8/10 Orbits and 12 Reach. Just wanted to try something new, maybe midlife crisis 😂 Didn’t regret it, i am really enjoying the xtra fly speed and playful bar feeling so far. I never had any quality issues with core or the 3 pro bar. The slim and minimal design of the bar is awesome and they have some nice details on their products in general. At the end it is all personal preferences and maybe amount of pocket money.
Hi, wanted to ask why you chose 8/10/12 instead of 7/9/12? I'm looking at buying the same setup and wondering between the 2 for my 82kg to cover any wind range. And why not a 13m Reach instead of 12? Tx
Since recently I was riding the Duotone Rebel SLS and I only had issues. Within one kiteseason, I had to replace the bladder of the leading edge three times because it was leaking and one time it even exploded mid air. I also had the lines of my bar snapping during a loop (during my second session), which luckily was not that high. I switched to new the Orbits and I absolutely love the kites and how high quality everything feels.
Awesome review once again! After seeing your Insta post about the trust bar, I checked mine. Very thankful. I’d worn through the plastic completely and had worn a 1-2mm groove through the stainless steel bolt underneath. Centre line still was solid. My local shop gave me a new line and plastic piece (apparently they’re a consumable. Plastic peice is $20aud). I agree with you, it shouldn’t happen this quickly and hopefully they use a material with better properties next year. This is the first year they used a thinner line there which has the forces more concentrated and accelerates the wear. I’ll keep an eye on my bar in that area now and happily continue to.. trust.. it. Plastic coated lines scare me way more. I’ve snapped centre lines due to wear from trapped sand. Also for the y split, I’ve only ever seen it have an abrasive edge if it’s been opened and the ring shifts slightly. Never had an issue with the kites myself. Also, would love to hear your thoughts on the new rebel, pivot and hyper model ! Cheers legend.
Thanks for the good feedback... re the splitter, like anything in kiting, I'm sure the vast majority are fine, but it's just the risk of what if that you have to watch out for. The old V splitter is fine so if you can get one, I suggest swapping to it to remove just one more potential area of wear.
Great comprehensive review as always! Could you please review the F-one Trigger?? There are no reviews about it 🙈 I'm going to CapeTown in January so I could let you use mine
That would be pretty obvious and noticeable wear on the directional lines… It’s been the centre lines snapping for us and further up the lines, far out of reach… not to mention the board touching the lines like that is pretty rare even when woosting to the max
@@jasonofmontreal Would be nice indeed to have a 3 strut aluula comparison, since these 3 strut kites are taking it up against the traditional 5 strut big air kites. The hypermodel is out now. Already saw a slingshot code Aluula flying. Probably also a nexus aluula is coming out. Furthermore the eleveight rs+ is also 3 strut and lighter/stronger LE. BTW bought 2023 10m orbit because of your videos :)
I have an Ocean Rodeo 5 strut Flite, 10m. I am loving it, but I'm not jumping as high as you. I also don't have the experience on the variety of kites you do. I'm also a full size kiter as well and would love to hear what you think of it.
I love the rise, although I didn't find it to be one of the best boosters like the evo dlab. Similar height potential to the Orbit I was riding at the time. I'm hoping to try the Flite at some stage.
Sometimes it is amazing, other times we have to wait a week or two for wind... we don't have a day in day out season, but we do get a lot of wind when you consider the whole year an be windy
Very good and honest review. It will be interesting to see a test of the Airush Lift v3, one of the best kites I've flown and very soon there will be a Lift V3 Team equivalent of D-lab.
Tnx a bunch Jason, love to to watch your vids. Have a mix of North kites. 12m Reach 2021, 10m Orbit 2023 and a2021, 9m reach 2022 ,8m Orbit 2021. Watching this latest I get The impression that the 2023 is a better choice than the 2024 if you like fast kites?! Really would love to get a large kite 12m that is fast enough to loop …and was really considering Evo D-lab so big thanks for saving me some $$$. 😂
I’ve looped an orbit 12, you just need to be pretty high (8-9m) to make sure it’ll catch you. The ocean rodeo rise looped the fastest of the kites I’ve tried, but I’m not sure how durable it is.
Side note, Harlem force, 5 strut ocean rodeo flight and core xrPro reviews would be awesome. I know the harlem guy's and they are super nice, I am sure you can find them in cape town
@@dajobra I'd love to give it a blast, hopefully I can meet them in CT while I'm there. The Core lines definitely seem more durable, but I have to be honest I've had to replace a few parts on the bar twice since I got mine in 2021. I'd say if you ride a lot the centre lines, pigtails, and the centre part of bar the lines run through will need replacing every 8-12 months. A better option than breaking for sure.
Love your channel and depth you go into for every review! Innocent question: How much do you think kicking your lines with your board's rail, to squeeze out a higher Woo score has anything (if anything) to do with snapping a line? (eg like how you kick the line with your edge at 2min 33sec. I realise that is not where the lines snapped in your videos, but I'm curious). I'm not defending DT - you've convinced me to try a different manufacturer for my next purchase. They seem more intent on selling products and dealing with warranty claims after the fact, than making good quality products to start with. This is happening across many industries. I'm over that ! So glad you and your buddies landed safely!
I would say not at all, I don't do it that often, I just tend to over-emphasise woosting like that for these videos so the board is in frame etc. Lots of brands have had issues with manufacturing, particularly with new materials in the last 2-3 years so they are no alone in these issues. I brought up the line issues because I rated the kites the best I'd ever flown in previous video, and the breaks happened so quickly to a few of us. I still use my 3 dlabs are my primary kites btw, and they are still the best big air kites you can ride overall, just not perhaps for progressing riders
Hello Jason, thank you for the great content. I am currently riding a 12 and 9m 2023 Orbit and learning loops. Currently jumping around 8 to 10m with downloops. I want to switch my quiver, as the gap from 12 to 9 is to big imo, to 12 Reach, 10 and 8 Orbit. When money is not a point, do you recoment the pro? I like faster kites and also the design of the pro. Greetings from germany
As I mentioned in the video, the standard orbit is better for progressing faster in the smaller sizes, you might want to consider the standard 8, and the 10 pro.
I really enjoy your videos! Especially because I’m also a 95kg rider. I’d love to see a comparison between more underdog brands in big air like Eleveight, Flysurfer, Crazyfly, Airush etc. After few reviews and a testival I decided to get a range of Eleveight XS. After riding XR’s and Orbits I think it’s right in the middle of this two and combines them perfectly.
Another great Big Air Kite Test. Thank you for your insights. D-Lab has its downsides after all. You wouldn't have a coupon code for the line smith shop :P ?
These reviews are really well done! I would love to see you try and review the new Sonic 4 from Flysurfer. These foil kites offer hangtime and boost that isn't even comparable with any other kite that I have tried. I think you would really like them!
I will definitely get around to flying some foils at some point, one of the local Pros Hugo @hugowigglesworth8077 rides for flysurfer and what he does with them is amazing, but it would be hard to compare them in the format I use because one of the big points I'm looking at is how they loop... but I'll certainly try one and film it when I get the chance!
Great video thanks for sharing! Unfortunate that Duotone can not sort out their quality issues. They had many issues in the past with their lines a couple years back they finally changed them but as it seems it did not fix all their issues completely. How would you say does the Evo SLS compare to the Rebel SLS in terms of looping the kite.
I’m afraid I’ve not tried the Evo sls… but I did love the 2023 rebel sls and was surprised how well it looped for how much power it had and how easy it was to ride
Very interesting this video. Im thinking about getting North, Core or Duotone. But when I saw the first rounds of Kota 2023 I noticed, that all the North competitors at Kota are jumping 3 meter lower than the other Brands? Seems that the performance is not the best from North.
If you watch each of my videos you’ll see I consistently mention and score Orbits lower in boosting/woosting. I think XR, Edge, Rebel or Evo Dlab all have higher jumping potential, they’re just usually harder to use for loops and other progression…. There’s always a trade off
what would you say is the best orbit size to learn kiteloops? is a 7m easier to learn on than an 8m? what would you say is a safe looping height for a 7m and a 9m orbit or is there no difference? thanks for your help!
I would say 8m is kind of in the sweet spot between fast and stable... A 7m will get around faster, but it's probably harder to control, unless you're really used to them of course. I learnt loops originally trying them on an 8m dice, 9m vegas, and 10m dice in 2018/2019. The 8m dice was the easiest, but I hardly ever had the wind for it to I would get more sessions practicing on the 9 and 10.
@@jasonofmontreal yea makes sense. How about an ozone edge? Even if you can’t make a video, what are your personal thoughts on edge vs orbit or orbit pro? I’m intermediate I would say, jumping around 12 with no proper loops yet. Probably will though so should be loopable as well. Gonna buy a 7m. Thank you 🙏
@@hanno729 I covered the edge v11, and supermodel v3 in my first video. I’m sure both kites are a bit better now but I’d imagine they’re similar in comparison
Perfect quiver overall for loop progression from 20 knt upwards . I am 40 years and ride my 17 XR till 20-22 knt for airstyle tricks with multi board offs and rotations. But wanna progress my standard loops with a board off loop etc just doing a Lb this year on a XR 7 8 mtr kite I would like to renew my quiver but want to progress early as possible in the lowest wind possible like 20 knt or so….. Which size and type of kites you recommend 10 or 11 orbit, evo dlab, rise etc. I am around 78 kg and tt 133,5 cm
I found the OR Rise aluula looped the fastest of the 10m sizes, but at your weight you could get away with a 9m dlab because of the awesome wind range. If you don't want to splash out on aluula then the Orbits or Nitros are amazing. There are a lot of other brands now with or coming out with Aluula, so I'm not so sure which will be the best of them so perfect quiver is really hard to say.
fantastic review as always, thanks a lot jason. I'm learning kiteloops on a dice which I think is ideal in terms of turning speed while sacrificing height, and I'm thinking which 5 strut kite to buy to further progress and get height. Will probably go for the standard orbit below 9m and pro for 10m and 12m, I'm a bit fed up with duotone prices which I think are a bit unjustified, while it is clear that these orbits are great. I also had an issue on the duotone lines when i tangled with a guy in Cape Town last year and all my four lines snatched immediately (he walked away with no issue).
I actually learnt my first loops on a dice too back in 2018, they were great and I bet still are, but I think you will be very happy with Orbits for loop progression
I exchanged my set of Rebels 21 for a set of Rebel SLS 24. They are clearly much lighter and faster, which is a win, but what I find disappointing is the bar pressure, which is so light and I find it difficult to get used to. This will take time or do you have any tips to get used to this?😊
@@jasonofmontreal thanks for the reply. it will be even more kiting then! your content is fire. maybe the next set is the orbit pack, very curious about it. greetings from the Netherlands
Hi Jason, do you think the problem is due to the type of lines or due to the V distributor? I was thinking of purchasing a north or reedin bar that use the SK99 lines but I'm worried that using the v distributor might end up ruining them anyway...I'm terrified of this type of problem especially with strong winds but...
I don't understand enough about lines and friction and everything else to know... From seeing two lines in person either snap or wear almost to snapping right at the V Distributor I am sure that is part of the problem, but the second set of duotone trust bar lines that snapped was not at the V, and it was BOTH centre lines, so I have to say it's also the lines they use. Their lines are much thinner than other lines, so my amateur opinion is that they take much less wear before they're ready to go
@jasonmontreal I change my set of Dutone lines for North (lyros DC401 pro) and I felt a big difference in how the kite perform: more drag and harder to push the kite to the edge od the WW...it's just me or do you feel the same?Have you switch only front lines and pigtail keeping Duotone rear line?Have you ever try infexion lines?thank you very much
The differences are very minor, and conditions can change quickly depending on how windy it was, so you are not necessarily wrong, I am just reporting on my experiences of course.
Hi, congratulations for the reviews, they are really fantastic and you are really very good. I drive a normal EVO I do some loops, dark slide board off etc.. I would like to progress in the loops but I don't have a high budget. I like the normal EVO but also trying the Orbit I noticed that my normal EVO flies much deeper in the window; with the Orbit instead I immediately gained more confidence and confidence. while trying the evo sls I noticed that it behaved more similar to the orbit and I believe that the comparison should in fact be made between the evo sls and the standard orbit. let's get to the point, do you recommend switching to orbit given my good impressions or getting a used evo sls? I hope you will answer me, thank you very much
I think the orbit will be easier to progress with loops, but I’ve not tried the standard Evo or Evo sls sorry. The evos are better all around kites if you are also doing some foiling or riding waves etc, but I’d wager you’ll progress faster in loops and big air with an orbit 8 or 9m
I have not tried a standard evo, but with a 12m size, because you are not really likely ride it in super strong wind at your level, I would usually recommend a 3 strut kite... so if you looking at north, probably the Reach instead... Orbit would be the move if 7-11m size probably... The Evo would probably be a better option that the Orbit in that size as well... I ride 12m Evo Dlabs myself, but this might be a bit of overkill at this stage.
Hey Jason! What would you say about ORBIT 2024 vs EVO SLS 2024 with a few sentences? I’m currently using EVO SLS but I’m considering switching to ORBIT. 🙏
@@asapn4612 I’m afraid I’ve never used an Evo sls sorry… my guess would be Evo jumps a little higher and is better for multiple disciplines like wave/foil, but the orbit is probably more stable in stronger winds and easier for kiteloop progression
Thanks again for the awesome reviews. I'm planning on buying the orbits but am hesitant to buy the north bar because of no auto swivel. Did you ever try reedin, naish bar or any other low v with the orbits that worked just as fine?
I don’t usually love bars with auto-swivel… they tend to jam up or have parts that need replacing quickly. I preferred the north bar to the ones you mentioned, but any of them should work fine with orbits
@@jasonofmontreal thanks for the quick reply, really appreciate it. I'm rly happy with my naish bar, auto swivel always worked perfectly. However rly need a new bar now. I think i'll go with the navigator.bar instead.
Question, does a kite like the orbit/nitro make a lot of difference in looping progression compared to let's say a slingshot RPX which is what I ride? Have you thought of doing a test comparing freestyle oriented kites to dedicated big air/freeride kites? Thanks and keep up the good work!
I’m afraid we don’t have Slingshot here so I’ve not ridden the RPX. My guess would be it is quite a bit more challenging to learn to loop on as the pull is likely more aggressive and the catch less forgiving
Great review once again, Jason! Have you ever tried the Evo SLS? Would you say it's a good option for someone that doesn't want to spend as much as with an Evo DLab? How would you compare it to the Orbit? Tried them once (in separate ocasions) and immediately thought they were very intuitive, had a good direct feel and were confidence inspiring to throw all the tricks. Looking to go for one of them and curious to know your take. There are virtually no reviews of the SLS version of the Evo, so I'm curious to know your take. Cheers!
Love your videos Jason! I know your big on WOOsting, but it would be great if you could do a video comparison of WOO vs. Surfr. I'm jumping around 6m-7m on the surfr app pretty consistently, but wondering if it would read the same on the WOO, and would love your overall opinion about the difference in their features/capabilities.
They will be very similar if you jump in a more controlled crouched position, with woo however you can cheat yourself higher scores by flicking your legs up ‘woosting’. This movement not only gets your board higher, on some jumps it tricks the woo into over reading at times, so a 9/10m jump on surfr may be 12-13m on woo for example.
I can also chime in. I recently tried both woo 3 and surfr and found the results quite close. With the "woost" it adds 2m to height but this also works with surfr in board mount. But with surfr in wetsuit or watch the woost doesn't change. Overall the surfr in watch mode is by far the most convenient. The woo app is still a bit more popular however
I think the lines on the trust bar at least are at least... it looks like their pro team seems to know this too because it looks like they use different lines on Instagram... as I mentioned, it seems that the bladders do go pretty easily, and we did have a pigtail break too already...
Hey Jason, Im currently deciding between getting a 10m Reach or a 10m Orbit Pro in addition to a 8m Orbit i already have as someone who is jumping 5-8m loops on the 8m. Do you have any recommendation which one would help me better at getting comfortable to loop bigger kites/ which one catches faster? Keep up the great Work!
This is a tough question as I am not riding all of the kites on the same day... but I would say the Harlem Force and Evo Dlab are the two that sprint to mind.
Hi Jason, got any tips for bars? I have a Trust Y bar and am now thinking of buying Orbits. The Navigator bar has a low V for the Orbit, but I read a lot of bad reviews on the Navigator, especially when looping a lot (safety line twist, no auto untwist and bad swivel for centre lines untwist and dangling depower). I really like the Sensor 3, but also a Y bar unfortunately…
The navigator is my favourite bar, I don't mind no auto untwist. You can remove the high V splitter on your trust bar though if you want to keep using it.
Ok, many thanks! Didnt expect a response so soon. And you haven’t had any problems I understand. I usually do a couple of years with my gear (3/4/5 years), which is why I am a bit paranoid with durability and buying the right stuff. I had no problems with my Trust bar btw but given your experience I am keen to switch either way.
@@RebelwithaShotgun I think the first navigator version, or perhaps the first two had the issue of the safety twisting up inside the chicken loop if you only looped the kite one way, but I'm not sure that is still an issue on the 22/23 bar. I've had a few of them and it wasn't an issue... but I also do either loop the kite evenly both ways, or simple un-twist manually it after loops
when you mention line lengths. have you ever used 23m line? 3 years ago, out of curiosity, I ordered 23m of linen. when I was at 22 it was very direct but I lost the windrange. at 24m, the slack was too much. 23 is the middle. I suggest you try it. 150e for liros sk99 line
I have only tried 23 when I tested the ozone edge… I wasn’t used to it enough to appreciate it at the time, but I could see it be a useful middle ground…
How did you get your Trust bar line changed to more durable one? I had click bar 2023 line snapping and rearing kite ear off. I would love to change front lines for something more durable. Follow up question did your mate snapped kite bridal line?
One mate snapped a pigtail on then end of his bars lines, and another the two centre lines. At first I just swapped the broken centre line for a north line, but then ordered new lines from The Line Smith (link in description) to replace my current ones. He makes them to suit whatever type of bar and line length you have.
@@jasonofmontreal Did you also replace steering lines or just front lines? Can you share what lines length you bought from there from The Line Smith for Trust bar?
Thanks for the amazing content! I’m a beginner kiter starting on progressing my jumps. I’m riding mostly a switchblade 12 and 9m, but find them to be a bit slow and very heavy bar pressure. Out of your amazing experience, which kite would you recommend with light bar pressure and possibility for progression? Also, anything with aluula that is worth considering? Cheers!
Well my wife is at that level as well and she loves the Reach I got her. It is very light on the bar and super easy to use and progress with. I think some other 3 strut kites like the Moto X from Cabrinha, or even the Reedin supermodels are great all-arounder and progression kites.
Hi, Would you say there has been a noticeable change in the Orbit from 2023 to 2024. I'm planning to buy a 9m but can't decide on which model to buy. (The 2023 is 180€ cheaper). (I'm an intermediate, 65kg, and there is usually not more than 30kts in my home spot. If that makes a difference)
@@jakubpar2910 the standard 23 is actually a bit faster, but the 24 more stable. I’d suggest getting the 23 in sizes 10 and up, in 9 either option work great so might as well also save some money, smaller than 9 I’d probably go 2024.
Awesome video Jason👏I recently got the 2024 Orbit in 8m and loved the extra stability and bar pressure! For me this 2024 8m has been a game changer to keep balance in my loop board off tricks! Now I struggle to decide to go for the 10m Pro or the standard one 😄I'm concerned about the slower loops on the standard 2024 in 10m size compared to the previous model but on the other hand the Pro might be a bit too performance oriented as I'm more into progression than woo scores :) Have you had a chance to try this year's 10m? Cheers 🤙
Would you say if you were someone not as advanced as you and consistently riding in the 15-25knt range that the duotone products wouldnt be as concerning??
that's so hard to say, I think if you are wave riding or foiling then nothing to worry about... but if you are jumping over 5-10m or doing kite loops, the risk of lines snapping is a major concern so that is at least worth considering addressing
I have. The split isn't in quite the same place (about 1m lower) but the lines feel a bit different. The core lines have a sort of elastic feel that takes a bit of getting used to. They work fine but I preferred the stiffer duotone lines for feel
I can't afford to buy any more Aluula kites, my dlab investment is hopefully going to last me another year or more with some stronger lines... but if I can borrow one for a few hours I'd try to film a review with it
The only no BS kite review on the web.

Another great review! I switched to orbits from evo sls partly after watching your videos and started pulling kiteloops on my first session! Super happy! Thanks for the great videos!
That’s awesome to hear, keep up the progress 🤘
I very much appreciate your honest, thoughtful reviews.
thanks
@@jasonofmontreal you’re welcome!
I love this - again! Unbiased reviews we all hunger for ❤😊

Another great review! I’m loving my 2024 orbit and I like the changes. I like the increased hangtime from the slightly slower loop. The orbit for me is a kite that just feels intuitive. It does what I want when I want it
its super friendly for big air that's for sure
I really appreciate your honesty and openness about your experiences with duotone. Nowadays a seldom thing to find where nearly everybody is sponsored in any way and uses YT as marketing platform.
This gives your channel incomparable value.
Cheers and thx mate!
@@danyosen thanks mate, not trying to shit on any brands, just recall my experiences
great job J ! can't wait to see XR Pro shredding from you !
Thanks
I think it's very good that you're addressing problems with material quality. I'm just about to buy new equipment (my current kites are still from 2014-2016 and are just getting old), but I read the same thing about all the kites I'm interested in.
North Orbit 2023 -> explodes randomly (in the latest reel of Jamie overbeek you can see even a 24 pro model just pop mid air in the background)
Duotone dice sls / Evo Dlab -> same thing.
I know there was a big recall of 2023 North Orbits, so I was under the impression that the issue was fixed?
@@fer9-g3e great points, I just watched the clip and I think you are right.
I was on the spot (Mirns, Netherlands), @flover566 is correct, the tube of the Orbit Pro did not explode, just flagging out for some reason
I have Flysurfer Souls I use for water and snow, but with Aluula, I’m wanting to use tube kites for water now. I haven’t known anyone to have issues with their A-series Ocean Rodeo kites. I wonder what the heck is going on with Duotone.
I think everyone would like to know, but when you command over 40% of the market already it doesn't seem to be a large enough issue to affect them...
Primo flat water and kickers sessions there - Orewa and Murawai at their best.
Another great video update. As many have said in comments here, its awesome getting feedback that isn't paid/biased. Passion, enjoyment and fair + honest reviews --> what the industry needs.
See you when you get back from Cape Town!
looking forward to it, I got some kites for you to test 😂
My first kites were duotone then switched to crazyfly and now riding core. After 4 years i gotta say core it's by bar the most reliable and durable also living in northern ireland where gusty winds are always in the menu the XRs perform sublime with their so called old tech pulleys
They certainly are one of the more durable kites, but you do need to keep your eyes on the bars as there are a few parts that deteriorate rather quickly, nothing like I’ve found with my trust bar mind you
My path exactly, maybe it's the Irish in us!
@@dajobra yup, similar eco to me
Who knows if you are just testing to give us your opinion.or do you have other interests?😜😜🤣🤣🤭🤭
I know pro riders in person , they had never issues with their duotone equipment.and they ride day and night in strong conditions.
Jason, thank you for the indepth review! Great quality content
My pleasure
By far the best reviews out there for the intermediate/advanced riders. Thank you Jason! Would love to see a review of the F-One Trigger
thanks, but I'm afraid we don't have F-One down here
I hope that you could also take a look at the xr pro and the Harlem Force (Lorenzo Casati’s new kite). Would be really interesting.
Love your videos! Keep the good work up!
Can’t wait to try to Xr pro 🤘
Or the Harlem of course, I'm not even sure if they have them in CT though...
I got to try it briefly, but not in good enough conditions to review unfortunately
Awesome work, Jason!!! Another great video.
Cheers bro, just trying to send the trap 🤘😂
@@jasonofmontreal lol love it.
Jason, your performance review has me switching gear. I purchased my first Orbit 2024 and will be purchasing another new 9m Orbit very soon. Thanks
Thanks for the comment, hope you love your gear
Hi, i am joining the big thank you train! Keep it up 🍻
I recently switched from XR6 to 8/10 Orbits and 12 Reach.
Just wanted to try something new, maybe midlife crisis 😂
Didn’t regret it, i am really enjoying the xtra fly speed and playful bar feeling so far.
I never had any quality issues with core or the 3 pro bar. The slim and minimal design of the bar is awesome and they have some nice details on their products in general.
At the end it is all personal preferences and maybe amount of pocket money.
Happy to help, love the core range too of course, there's always different preferences for different riding styles, and its fun to try new things.
Hi, wanted to ask why you chose 8/10/12 instead of 7/9/12? I'm looking at buying the same setup and wondering between the 2 for my 82kg to cover any wind range. And why not a 13m Reach instead of 12? Tx
Great video maker, i wouldn't miss any episode of the kite testing from you! Just receive my 10m orbit pro!😁
Cheers
I would love to see the reviews of Eleveight, Harlem, Epic and Flysurfer kites done as well. Thanks for your input!
those are pretty tricky brands to get hold of in NZ, but ill keep my eye out for them
Since recently I was riding the Duotone Rebel SLS and I only had issues.
This seems to be all too common
Lit AF 😂 , good job Jays, hanging out for your next video.
cheers
Great review. In summary, not buying a dlab. But a 9m and 12m Orbit pro :)
just depends on your riding style I guess 😂
Nice video!! Would love your impressions of the new Flysurfer Era if it releases while you're still in CT!
Team rider Hugo is on my woo worlds team and hopefully I'll be able to try one of his at some point
4:59 riding the Orbit how it’s supposed to be ridden… lit AF 🤌🏼🤌🏼 hahaha

Epic review Jason, as always! Sorry if I got on your way that day at Orewa 😜🚀
You’re never in the way, your kite sometimes just likes a little cuddle I recon 😂
Great comprehensive review as always! Could you please review the F-one Trigger?? There are no reviews about it 🙈 I'm going to CapeTown in January so I could let you use mine
I’m afraid I won’t be there by then.
Awesome job bro. Keep going and looking forward for next kite tests and comparisons 🤘🤘🤘
cheers
"I've never snapped a line with my Core or North gear" @2:35 pushes board edge against the lines.. maybe it started after doing that..?
That would be pretty obvious and noticeable wear on the directional lines… It’s been the centre lines snapping for us and further up the lines, far out of reach… not to mention the board touching the lines like that is pretty rare even when woosting to the max
Keep up with the great content!!!!
Will do
Sick review! Would love to see you review the XR Pro!!!!

Looking for your Reedin Hyper Model test ride 😎 Interesting alternative with aluula materials. Thx for these kind of video, love it !
That would certainly be an interesting one

Awesome Jason again!!
Would love to see the Slingshot Machine, new Flysurfer Era, Harlem Force, reedin hypermodel, Airush Lift, Lacuna Alpha one day 😊

I'm afraid we don't have AR here in NZ but I'll keep an eye out for a chance to try it
Tnx a bunch Jason, love to to watch your vids. Have a mix of North kites. 12m Reach 2021, 10m Orbit 2023 and a2021, 9m reach 2022 ,8m Orbit 2021.
Watching this latest I get
The impression that the 2023 is a better choice than the 2024 if you like fast kites?! Really would love to get a large kite 12m that is fast enough to loop
…and was really considering Evo D-lab so big thanks for saving me some $$$. 😂
I’ve looped an orbit 12, you just need to be pretty high (8-9m) to make sure it’ll catch you. The ocean rodeo rise looped the fastest of the kites I’ve tried, but I’m not sure how durable it is.
I just switch the pigtails on my core bar and use it for my d lab, works like a charm
@@jasonofmontreal I have 2, 22 and 24 meter, that spreads the load. I also replace the bar inserts once a year or so, no problem for me.
Great video! I’d love to know what you think about the 2024 switchblade vs nitro in regards to jumping and looping.
@@Clausman79 unfortunately we don’t have cabrinha in NZ so I’m pretty limited in what I can test from them sadly
Thanks, great work as always!
thanks
Another great one excellent
thanks
I'm hoping you can get on the airush lift and new lacuna kites in Capetown.
will see what I can do
Hello Jason, thank you for the great content.
I’d love to see a comparison between more underdog brands in big air like
Eleveight, Flysurfer, Crazyfly, Airush etc.
After few reviews and a testival I decided to get a range of Eleveight XS. After riding XR’s and Orbits I think it’s right in the middle of this two and combines them perfectly.
I’m afraid we just don’t have access to that many brands in NZ
But I did really enjoy the Eleveight XS v3 in the first video I made
Best review I’ve ever seen anyone do I’m so many different levels.
Have you tested a Naish pívot before? Curious…
I covered the 2022 one I think in my first video. Great all around kite for general riding and progression, but not one of my favourites for big air
@@jasonofmontreal I saw that!! Great review as well!! Thank you!!
Another great Big Air Kite Test. Thank you for your insights. D-Lab has its downsides after all. You wouldn't have a coupon code for the line smith shop :P ?
I’m afraid not 🤷♀️
These reviews are really well done!
There’s always a trade off
Can you review the slingshot machine? Curious how it compares to the orbit and nitro in particular
Unlikely, but I will try to get hold of the code which is the team riders big air kite of choice
what would you say is the best orbit size to learn kiteloops? is a 7m easier to learn on than an 8m? what would you say is a safe looping height for a 7m and a 9m orbit or is there no difference? thanks for your help!
I would say 8m is kind of in the sweet spot between fast and stable... A 7m will get around faster, but it's probably harder to control, unless you're really used to them of course. I learnt loops originally trying them on an 8m dice, 9m vegas, and 10m dice in 2018/2019. The 8m dice was the easiest, but I hardly ever had the wind for it to I would get more sessions practicing on the 9 and 10.
can you review a reedin supermodel / htf in you next big air kite review pls 🙏
I can only review kites I get access to I’m afraid. It’s also not our windy season in NZ so we don’t get a lot of 30 knot days
@@jasonofmontreal alright I’ll check that out thank you
Perfect quiver overall for loop progression from 20 knt upwards .
I am 40 years and ride my 17 XR till 20-22 knt for airstyle tricks with multi board offs and rotations. But wanna progress my standard loops with a board off loop etc just doing a Lb this year on a XR 7 8 mtr kite
I would like to renew my quiver but want to progress early as possible in the lowest wind possible like 20 knt or so…..
Great stuff Jason! Many thanks for this reviews. Any other review comparing to yours are pretty pale. Cheers
thanks
My duotone lines have snapped 4x in the past 2 years.... Luckily not during any big jumps
Time to order some from the line smith I think
This is now reported all over the net. Quite honestly shocking that they didn´t do a recall of the Trust bar/lines??
I exchanged my set of Rebels 21 for a set of Rebel SLS 24. They are clearly much lighter and faster, which is a win, but what I find disappointing is the bar pressure, which is so light and I find it difficult to get used to. This will take time or do you have any tips to get used to this?😊
It will just take time... and try to hold the bar with a softer grip, that will help.
@@jasonofmontreal thanks for the reply. it will be even more kiting then! your content is fire. maybe the next set is the orbit pack, very curious about it. greetings from the Netherlands
@@ArneSlot79 unfortunately I probably went all in on duotone dlabs a bit fast, hoping to get 2 seasons out of them.
Their lines are much thinner than other lines, so my amateur opinion is that they take much less wear before they're ready to go
@jasonmontreal I change my set of Dutone lines for North (lyros DC401 pro) and I felt a big difference in how the kite perform: more drag and harder to push the kite to the edge od the WW...it's just me or do you feel the same?Have you switch only front lines and pigtail keeping Duotone rear line?Have you ever try infexion lines?thank you very much
@@alexcelli2545 I switched to lines from the line smith, there is a little additional drag I think… but it’s very close
Duotone lines are well known for snapping, so are the bladders in the sls
yeah, the lines issues seems like areally easy fix
great reviews! Did you ever have the chance to try a Slingshot RPX?
No, we don't have Slingshot in NZ, but I'm hoping to get hold of Jeremy's kite late in the year if possible.
I tried the 2024 orbit today straight after riding my 2023 9m. I felt less bar pressure in the 24 and it felt more agile… am I wrong ?
The differences are very minor, and conditions can change quickly depending on how windy it was, so you are not necessarily wrong, I am just reporting on my experiences of course.
Well done…again 😉… subscribed 👍
thannks
@@jasonofmontreal thank you very much
Hi jason, i’m deciding between Evo 2024 and Orbit 2024 size 12m. I’m just strating jumping and my main goal is big air. Any advice is appreciated 😊
What about the new OR 5 strut Aluula Flite?
I’ve contacted OR in SA to hopefully try one while I’m there but they’re not sure if they’ll have them in stock yet, fingers crossed
@jason what line length do you usually uses for kiteloops?
@@JeffersonPinheirokite 22, I will also use 24 on larger kites 10/12, and still do some loops with those kite sizes

Amazing video! Have you tried the slingshot kites, the code and the machine?
No, unfortunately we don’t have slingshot in NZ. The newer aluula ones Jeremy Burlando is riding look pretty special
@@devosdav I hear rumours north have a new bar coming early 2024… could have what you’re after…
Question, does a kite like the orbit/nitro make a lot of difference in looping progression compared to let's say a slingshot RPX which is what I ride?
Have you thought of doing a test comparing freestyle oriented kites to dedicated big air/freeride kites?
Thanks and keep up the good work!
I’m afraid we don’t have Slingshot here so I’ve not ridden the RPX. My guess would be it is quite a bit more challenging to learn to loop on as the pull is likely more aggressive and the catch less forgiving
I have also a lot of problems with the rebel sls and clickbar lines…
Keep hearing this more and more unfortunately
@@jasonofmontreal broken jaime sls board also under the pads. I moved to North 👌🏼
@@kevindebaat2577 i can’t speak to durability but I do hear that’s a sick board to ride
Cheers!
I have not tried it I’m afraid, but I saw Kitemana compared each of the 23 evo versions
@@jasonofmontreal they have, but not thoroughly like you! Thanks anyways!
@@jasonofmontreal thanks for the reply! Also, I didn’t realize that was the definition of woosting, but that all makes sense now that you explain it.
The woo app is still a bit more popular however
@@zscap the woo app is really well done for the huge community, and finding locations to kite if you’re new to an area
These reviews are great! Already looking forward to the next one. Would you say lines is the major DT issue? A set of Sk99 lines are a good fix then..
I think the lines on the trust bar at least are at least... it looks like their pro team seems to know this too because it looks like they use different lines on Instagram... as I mentioned, it seems that the bladders do go pretty easily, and we did have a pigtail break too already...
Hey Jason,
Im currently deciding between getting a 10m Reach or a 10m Orbit Pro in addition to a 8m Orbit i already have as someone who is jumping 5-8m loops on the 8m. Do you have any recommendation which one would help me better at getting comfortable to loop bigger kites/ which one catches faster?
Keep up the great Work!
@@syndicate2544 I’d go orbit pro… but I’ve never tried the reach in that size… at your level the pro should be a stick 10m
@@jasonofmontreal Thanks a lot for your input!
Which big air kite offers the least bar pressure to deal with a kiters elbow tendinitis ?
Very good content btw. If you’re happy with something, that actually convinces me (contrary to most other reviewers out there).
Thanks mate!
no problem
Is Orbit pro a lot faster in loops than 2023 model or just slightly?
@@zscap it’s noticeably faster
when you mention line lengths. have you ever used 23m line? 3 years ago, out of curiosity, I ordered 23m of linen. when I was at 22 it was very direct but I lost the windrange. at 24m, the slack was too much. 23 is the middle. I suggest you try it. 150e for liros sk99 line
I have only tried 23 when I tested the ozone edge… I wasn’t used to it enough to appreciate it at the time, but I could see it be a useful middle ground…
since you mentioned that you are traveling to cape town - airush land can you add lift v3 to the menu 🤞🤞🤞
@@RozaBoza I'll keep that in mind
@@flamewave0 I got 22m lines, I’m replacing centre lines in backup bar, and all lines on main bar
I think some other 3 strut kites like the Moto X from Cabrinha, or even the Reedin supermodels are great all-arounder and progression kites.
hi, what watch are you using to measure jumps?
Woo, and my apple watch to show it.
Hi,
Would you say there has been a noticeable change in the Orbit from 2023 to 2024.
@jasonofmontreal
By stable, you mean stable in high wind conditions or that it doesn't backstall?
@@jakubpar2910 stable in higher winds, I never had backstall issues with any my orbits except the 2020
Awesome video Jason👏I recently got the 2024 Orbit in 8m and loved the extra stability and bar pressure! For me this 2024 8m has been a game changer to keep balance in my loop board off tricks!
Now I struggle to decide to go for the 10m Pro or the standard one 😄I'm concerned about the slower loops on the standard 2024 in 10m size compared to the previous model but on the other hand the Pro might be a bit too performance oriented as I'm more into progression than woo scores :)
Have you had a chance to try this year's 10m?
Cheers 🤙
If you're doing loop board offs you're ready for the Pro, I haven't tried it, but think it would be a worthwhile upgrade from the standard in 10m
So cool you're taking the time to respond to every single comment of the video !
Thanks for your valuable advice 🙌

I've never flown a reach other than my wife's 7m
Would you say if you were someone not as advanced as you and consistently riding in the 15-25knt range that the duotone products wouldnt be as concerning??
that's so hard to say, I think if you are wave riding or foiling then nothing to worry about... but if you are jumping over 5-10m or doing kite loops, the risk of lines snapping is a major concern so that is at least worth considering addressing
So jealous of these kickers to the right.. over here we only get them to the left and i love jumping to the right 😅
it's quite rare we get the wind in this direction to get them... most of our spots are left so this was a nice treat

How come no slingshot kites in any of your testing videos?
I'm afraid we don't have Slingshot in NZ
Thanks for this review ! Did you try your core bar on Duotone kites ?
My core bar needs some parts replaced as well to be able to use it unfortunately so waiting on those from overseas as we don’t have core in nz
I have. The split isn't in quite the same place (about 1m lower) but the lines feel a bit different. The core lines have a sort of elastic feel that takes a bit of getting used to. They work fine but I preferred the stiffer duotone lines for feel
@@bondvillansarebest that makes sense

Are you in line for a reedin supermodel pro Aluula yet?
I can't afford to buy any more Aluula kites, my dlab investment is hopefully going to last me another year or more with some stronger lines... but if I can borrow one for a few hours I'd try to film a review with it
Isn't it insane looking at the prices they make you pay for Duotone gear and this is the quality you get?
