    The random friend that gets unwittingly roped into the protagonists shitty situation and winds up getting killed for trying to help is probably my least favorite horror cliche.
    I hate when selfless acts result in a net-zero gain, especially when the person that lives is clearly more stupid and useless than the one sacrificing themselves, my head canon best ending is matt taking gibson and GTFO'ing out of there 😅

    This story gave me massive old horror movie vibes which, I honestly loved because the protag of the story thinks his friend is still alive but he literally saw that man get murdered by the wendigo, I can imagine later before the wendigo messages them they pick up the cell phone wondering how to use it and thinks to themselves "How the hell do you use this!?" I loved this story because the wendigo is one of my favorite cryptids and i still enjoy how this story reminded me of old horror movies.

    Makes me happy to see writers incorporating more traditional traits of legends and monsters. Always a great idea to do your research. Especially with indigenous myths. Yes, for those who don't know, affecting the winter weather is a traditional part of the wendigo lore. They are a spirit of hunger AND the cold. Also, the original wendigos were thin, starving looking humanoids. Almost skeletal, and no antlers at all. They often appeared with red or yellow glowing eyes though. Great story! Dumb characters at the end though. Their friend is long gone, and they're stupid for even considering going back.

    • @teacupbirb4711
      @teacupbirb4711 11 місяців тому +2

      If I recall correctly, didn't the antler trope come about from a confusion between the Wendigo spirit and the Wechuge spirit?
