Well, v is on the rare side of consonants. A lot of languages lack f, and many have f but don't have v. (In the case of stops, fricatives, and affricates, voiced consonants typically don't appear without a voiceless consonant, though there are exceptions. That's why in other languages, you get Esteban, Stefano, Stefan, etc., all originally from Stefanus.)

Blue diamond seems to be the closest to pink out of the diamonds. (Both in size and in how she thinks about things.) So if steven is going to convince the diamonds, then I think she would be the first to be convinced.

Blue was the one who had the most patience with Pink in my opinion, she humored Pink in all of her silliness. I think they all just think its a game Pink is playing because thats what she used to do. Maybe White is the best option here, because think about it, if White believes Steven's story, Yellow and Blue have no choice but to believe Steven too

Yes yellow and blue are almost the same size, but blue is still the smaller of the two.
I feel like that pink drop drawing was more showing how Pink's tears/fluids create life. At her table there's a pile of pebbles, so she probably spent a lot of her time experimenting/playing with the Pebbles she brought to life (since the Diamonds were always too busy to spend time with her). The fact that Steven's SWEAT brought the pebble to life has huge ramifications, and adds more meaning to the "Extraction" chambers. This could mean that all Diamonds create an "essence of life" liquid, which turns any rock/gem into a sentient being. Notice how all of Yellow Diamond's "juice" was collected when she left? I think this liquid is collected from the Diamonds and used to fuel THE INJECTORS in Kindergartens! While a small drop can bring an average Pebble to life, full Gems need a longer incubation time to form properly. That triangle on Pink's drawing could be her realizing that her "juice" is used in the Injectors. This ALSO explains why all Gems are extremely loyal to only one Diamond (and share her color scheme). They were LITERALLY made from her "life juice"! AND this adds extra depth for each Diamond's colonies. All of the Injectors for that planet's Kindergartens are fueled with her life essence so the Gems made there are innately loyal to her for making them!
I don't think the pink drop is a tear. It's obviously pinks essence. The same thing yellow and blue were getting done to them. They were both getting their essence extracted to make more gems, ad since Steven was in both systems he leaked a little.
The essence probably gets extracted and used in the injectors to create new gems. If the essence hits normal rocks and not injected via a kindergarten they become pebbles.

Ahhh, could that be why Era 2 gems lack a lot of the abilities of Era 1 gems like shape-shifting? They needed Pink's creative power to give them those features?

Great breakdown. I still think it’s a huge jump to say that the image of the pink drop is her creation. They were clearly showing her tears brought life to those pebbles and was even doing so as Steven saw the images. This would also give a huge impact on Pink because all those pebbles show how often she cried...

There's even that line about how this time he has had some practice. By pink becoming rose then Steven she was able to learn from humans and the crystal gems a way to reach out to them in a way she couldn't as just a diamond.

The storyboarding in this episode was ideal; every character looked visually stunning and the size consistency was the best I’ve ever seen this season.
Totally agree! All of the characters were drawn extremely well in Familiar. The character sizes and proportions remained consistent throughout the episode, and they were all drawn brilliantly; Steven didn't look overly chibi and Pearl just looked fantastic.
Something I noticed. All the gems want Steven to be someone else (Rose or Pink). However, none of the human characters ever expect this from Steven. They always just expect him to be himself: Connie, Greg, Lars, Sadie, the Cool Kids, they all accept him for him (of course the Crystal Gems accept Steven, and now the expectation to have him be Rose Quartz is no longer there. However, there is still this expectation they have of him to be their leader). I hope the show addresses this one day~!!!
I honestly loved this episode and the song "Familiar" is just another to add to the ever-growing playlist.
I also loved the addition that was made in both the episode and this video about "Fool's gold"
That stream was incredibly dear to me and I re-watch it pretty often. So am glad it's not going to be forgotten.

honestly, pink's role on homeworld reminds me of the diamond's pearls role.
or rather a court's jester, who's big role was to be an entertainer. Emphasis on the juggle.
and by combining those two thoughts, Pink's clothes resemble a mix of a ballerina and a jester's.

I think all the diamonds all have some sort of life giving essence. Thats how Steven brings the pebels/veggies/lars to life. Yellow has living walls, blue has a living hair comb. I think bringing inanimate objects to life is a diamond ability.

You missed that yellow’s sweat and the water blue and pink(Steven) stayed in is being used to something maybe create gems because we saw that Steven sweat created a pebble so maybe they use anything the diamonds touch or their tears and sweats to create gems.

Interesting theory, but I still think Bismuth making it makes more sense. the Pebbles havent shown any interest in weapons, and Rebecca seems to be going with the cute innocent little helper look with them, I liked the comparison to the mice in Cinderella, they are a lot like that. On the other hand, we know its Bismuths role in the series to be the fixer/builder, she made Roses sword, Garnets rings, and said she was going to fix the house, so they will probably keep going down that route. I do hope the Pebbles are going to play an important role in the series though, I love them

No, it seems more like the pebbles make simple things. I mean the suit is nice because it's made from nice looking things already found in Pinks room. But all the other stuff they made was really plain looking. I mean, when Steven laid down they just made an edgy cut out around him.

Also I think the only way for the diamonds to understand that Steven isn’t exactly Pink is that he needs to fuse with Connie. After all, theres Nooooooooooooo way pink would have been able to do that or any other gem as far as I know. How the diamonds will react is up in the air. I don't think that "male" Pebble uses he/him pronouns. Sure, the Pebble is voiced by Zach Callison and looks masculine, but they're a gender neutral Gem. And Gems use she/her pronouns by default unless they decide otherwise. But for that, they'd have to be introduced to the earthly gender system, which doesn't exist on Homeworld and I don't think this Pebble would know much about it.

Why do they need to though? Gems are functionally immortal. They only make more because they're a colonial power expanding across the universe, and they presumably only needed more planets in the first place because they overmined their own planet and ran out of space. They could just stop and never make another gem and it isn't like they'd die out.
Of course they might be in a cold war arms race with another major space power we don't know about. In that case Steven might end up negotiating a peace treaty! (Sneeple anyone?)
But I like the idea that gems are a sentient robot species produced by an ancient organic race to colonise planets for them, then either these beings died out or the gems went rogue. They colonise because unending war is an excellent way to keep a population unified and prevent uprisings.

Honestly I loved the song familiar. It showed so much growth and understanding from Steven.
My favorite lyric has to be when Steven has hope to fix the family that is the diamonds. How he has experience doing this, helping each of the crystal gems in his own way. It kind of sums up your idea that the crystal gems are like the diamonds, broken souls filled with grief and stress. And how Pink and Steven both helped them in their unique ways.

Urgh, that was so unsatisfying, just when you think that she can get it through her head that Steven is not Pink, she called him Pink. Even after he clearly doesn't remember anything from his past (aside from the few dreams he had) but she continues to call him Pink! I really need a resolution from this and for the other Diamonds to call him Steven as well, but so far Blue seems to be the most understanding of this so she should know that he is not Pink. He may have her gemstone but not most of her memories. Memories is what makes a person a person, or in this case what makes a gem a gem. If none of us had memories or personalities we'd all be walking husks of meat! Come on people!

I think you should go more in depth about the song Familiar. There’s a lot more to it than it looks. Some may think it’s unnecessary, but it really is important. It explains Steven realizing that every moment he has had in the past was just like Pink’s life back then. This helps Steven get the idea of throwing the party. He understands a broken family’s pain, and he knows how to fix it. Without the song being included, I think I lot would have been left out of the episode. Also the song was amazing.

It really seems like that drawing was of pink diamond creating pebbles, and that Diamond sweat is the key to gem life!!! Whereas Steven is organic and can create gemless pebbles, Watermelon Stevens, and Pumpkin, the diamonds can create gemstones through their sweat!
This would explain why both Yellow and Blue take part in this "extraction." When Yellow had to leave, she didn't wipe her sweat and go, she SQUEEZED the rest of it out, as if to meet a quota. Not to mention, her sweat is clearly yellow, while in the same scene Steven has unusually pink sweat himself. I theorize this sweat is exactly what the drain was collecting, and what gem injectors are injecting. Whereas sweat on a stone creates pebbles, an injector that injects it into buried gemstones would create living gems!
This could also fully explain why era 1 gems are so much stronger! Blue recollects that all four diamonds once performed extraction together, into the same drain, which blue now uses all alone. Like with corruption, truly completing the job takes a little from EVERY diamond. Without pink, or with only one diamond's essence being injected into a gem, powers might just be too much to expect. This could also explain why yellow is now forced to spend her time checking on her citrine production, as she's working with less than she did during era 1, and thus mistake become much more probable!

White said that Pink's little game is over. Moreover, in "What's the Use of Feeling Blue?", Yellow kept saying that the both did miss her but seemed less upset and eager for it to be over. Blue was the most upset, as she is the second least influential, therefore lesser powerful, diamond. She treats Pink's "shattering" as if Pink was forever gone, and was much more devastated than Yellow and certainly more than White. However, from the start of Pink's transformation into Rose, several thousands of years had passed. I don't think someone would call a milleniums-long disappearance a game if it felt like such of a long time to them.

Finally gems that are masculin/voiced by a guy. Not that i didn’t like the others though ;)
Steven was making connections like "I used overly energetic and was never allowed on missions, and that was the same case with pink." Steven and pink are obviously parallels, so I think the others are like that too. Pearl represents white, Amethyst represents blue, and Garnet represents yellow. White was formal and strict before pink came along, and then she was more open and fun. Pink left, and she went back to her old self. It's the same case for Pearl. Pearl kind of hated everyone and everything when pink first turned into Steven, because she thought pink was gone. Then she got to know Steven, and was happy again. Maybe white will be happy like that again too? Amethyst is like blue because they're both kind of moody, but blue is more moody than Amethyst of course. Amethyst had some serious issues with being from the kindergarten and how she didn't come out right. She's always pretty sassy too. We've seen blue throw a little bit of shade, and we all know how emotional she always is. Garnet represents yellow. Neither of them really show a lot of emotion, and they're kind of like the leader. Since white is like a shut-in NEET nowadays, yellow has kind of stepped up to fill her shoes. She's not recognized as a leader the same way white is, she's definately a better leader than white is now. Garnet is recognized as the leader of the crystal gems, but I've always thought that she was more of the face of the crystal gems. Pearl is more like the leader because she's inevitably the one who says, "Yeah, we're not doing that" because she's in charge of Steven. She was also the closest to pink, so she was like the second in command. Sorry for writing so much lol. Let me know what you think of this theory. Also NOTICE ME @THE ROUNDTABLE

honestly, i feel like steven will meet the same sad and dreadful fate of his mom. becoming a selfish, childish, brat who fails in the end due to being a semi-toxic try-hard. his mom lives inside of him for god's sake, the only reason this is prolonged is due to his dad's genes being apart of him. the whole episode is literally about how steven is going through rose's experiences, theyre familar to him because he IS rose. as much as he tries to deny it, its true. i think steven is more bothered by his mom then he lets on because he's afraid of becoming her, when in reality, deep down, he knows he is her, and will become her eventually, maybe not as bad due to having greg's genes but still pretty bad.

Even though he's reliving almost the same experience as PD, it's still important to remember that Steven's environment is completely different. He has the crystal gems and Connie at aid, where PD (arguably) didn't have anyone. He grew as a person a lot over the course of the show and I personally find it very unlikely for creators to just throw out all character development out of the window.
Sure, Steven is similar to his mom in a lot of aspects, but he's not the same as her in any sense. He has the power to do things differently, hence having needed experience, which was explored in the episode. History doesn't have to always repeat itself, after all. :^)
Thank you for acknowledging that there are no “filler episodes” even though so many people feel like every episode about the beach city residents are just boring fillers with no real meaning behind them. I like to think that there are no real “filler episodes” in any sort of show, mainly because you watch the growth of the character. We are all humane beings, growth takes time, and can sometimes be boring. Everything in life isn’t at high full speed action all the time, and there won’t be much time to grow and think in those situations. There are no filler episodes 👏🏻

Don't be so sure, the drop didn't appear (on screen) out of his eyes, the drop is on his cheek when it's shown for the first time, the drop is pink but Steven tear have always been shown as blue or transparents, his sweat in the sauna of Yellow was pink.
Could white be a fusion? If she’s like Garnet, it makes sense - not to mention how fusions are stronger than normal gems, and White is the biggest gem their is! (Unless that cluster counts as a gem)
I have a theory and that is white diamond is also black diamond. Why I think that because white seems to favor pink than the others. Pink was an off colored red diamond and the reason why she likes pink more is because white herself is an off color black diamond and that’s why her pearl has grey in her color palette because white and black creates grey. I do believe white can still become black diamond but something has to happen for that transformation to happen. That’s why the diamonds can’t see her for too long because black diamond could possibly become black diamond at any time and I believe the pebbles know of this and that’s why there scared of anyone except pink because something happened in the past that made them trust her

Am I the only one that thought that during Familiar, Steven’s voice got lower as he sang it? Now I am aware that this might have just been Zach not wanting to strain his voice and all, being in his 20’s doing that high-pitched voice, but it seemed a little low. And Zach has sometimes gotten lower, but never that low. It just seems weird.
I have a theory. Maybe Steven is changing again ? Like growing and his voice is getting deeper, like a boy going through puberty ?

I personally thought hearing him sing in his actual vocal range was LOVELY. As Zach gets older, and SU becomes more serious about their music - especially these fancy musical numbers - their already established voice actors will need to experiment with their voice and ranges to pull off every song. Zach seems to adopt this range in particular very naturally, and it sounded smooth all the way through without cracks.

We watched the episode, that image is clearly not that.
The image shows a pile of rocks, with a couple peebles looking in, with a drop of pink liquid about to be dripped on them, STEVEN LITERALLY DRIPS A DROP OF PINK LIQUID, INTO A BOWL OF ROCKS, and births a pebble.
The image is just a photo of Pink Diamond probably creating a bunch of the pebbles by dripping on them.

The Pebbles are voiced by Pink, and also Steven, Who literally, Just made one while singing, with them singing backup - we don't specifically see his singing, but backup is being sung when they're visible and none of their mouths are moving.
It's now HEAVILY implied, that these liquids are Life creating, and that its probably related to the "Goo" that is in the injectors to manifest gemlife. - especially seeing as the Pebbles share similar abilities to Bismuth (which may or may not imply something about How Bismuth(s) are created)
So Pink has healing powers, separate from the life-resurrecting/creating power.
and all diamonds probably (or only the diamonds liquid extraction, is used) all have color/essence infused liquid that can bring things to life (or back to life)
When the door opened to the big mirror/powder room thing while steven sings "familiar" theres a moment where we focus on his face and he's starry eyed. Even before knowing that Pendleton Ward was a guest boarder, it really gave me the adventure time vibe!

I didn’t notice that Pendleton ward helped story bored familiar. That makes me so happy that he worked on a Steven universe episode. I love adventure time and Steven universe. And when you said” gone but not forgotten.” I loved it. I miss it so much. But I’m excited for new episodes of Steven universe.

I think from this episode that at the beginning of era two in was no longer efficient to just shatter a gem when it was no longer effective, so now instead of shattering a gem they harvest the energy from that gem and leave it a statue as seen of the gems in the yellows chamber. Gems need energy so using this energy for another gem is much more efficient. The harvested gems are in a coma hiatus like state until energy is restored to them.

NO ONE'S TALKING ABOUT THE EXTRACTION CHAMBERS. I had a theory a few seasons back about the Diamonds and their respective courts. Each Diamond creates and controls gems that share their color, right? So far, all of Blue Diamond's gems are extremely powerful: from Sapphires to Lapis Lazulis, from Aquamarines to Holly Blue Agates, there are NO slouches in Blue's court. None. Yellow Diamond's court is entirely different, however. So far I've seen one *truly* yellow gem, and that Topaz fusion even had a greenish tint to them. Peridots are green, and we've seen an Emerald. There's talk of Citrines at this point, but as far as we've *seen*, all of Yellow's gems are green(ish).
BACK TO THE EXTRACTION CHAMBERS: Yellow had to be steamed to extract whatever that liquid was that got collected in the drain. Then she had to focus to get rid of it. We even see Steven start to "sweat", but it's PINK, thereby illustrating that it's probably NOT sweat. Blue, on the other hand, was practically submerged in her own liquid. As Steven climbed the steps to her pool, there were tubes of running liquid draining away from it. When he jumped in, he was covered in it, and while it looked like it could be water, I think it's whatever these Diamonds are excreting. Judging by how quickly Yellow went to oversee her soldier crop, this substance is what enables them to create gems in their image, so to speak. We even see more of that when Steven cries in the bowl of pebbles, instantly creating a brand new Pebble.
I THINK that Blue is a more powerful Diamond than Yellow. Personality-wise, Yellow might be of a stronger constitution than Blue, but I think after "hundreds of successful colonization campaigns", Yellow Diamond is just about tapped. At this point, she has to draw some of her power from Blue in order to continue producing gems, which is probably where the shift in resource availability on Homeworld comes from. It also illustrates just how impactful Pink Diamond truly was. The other Diamonds might have treated her like a child, but her nurturing disposition was a great source of power for them. The interesting part will be seeing how Steven copes with all of this.

Hey, I kind of feel that Steven might actually be Pink/Rose in the end. Perhaps allowing for a way to redeem pink in the end? Because while he is half human and half gem, he has been recovering some of his mother's memories such as on jungle moon. I think Steven singing familiar showed many things but it instantly gave me the idea that it is familiar, meaning Steven will gain even more memories. Eventually there will be like some weird awakening. Deadass this is some crackpot theory but I'm just gonna leave it here for the off chance it happens 🤡
