Quagga mussel discovery closes portion of Snake River in Idaho

  • Due to the discovery of quagga mussel larvae in the Centennial Waterfront Park area, the Snake River is closed to all watercraft from Shoshone Falls to the park.

    when rinsing the boats... doesn't the water flow right back into the snake?

      That's a great question. The water temperature for decontamination is 140 degress so it kills the velliger and mussels any run off would presumably only contain velligers that are dead but usually boat inspection stations are in dry gravel areas with no nearby stream or sewers. That's why it important to have water craft decontaminated at a station because if you have been in infested water and wash it off with cold water in your driveway it could potential run off into sewer and contaminate sewer system. For the same reason it's important to drain live well right as you leave not at home or another body of water.
