Not only did he quit, but now we are gonna be without a government while they sort out an internal appointment or election. He's not a fighter, just a sore loser.
Unfortunately, one of the opposition parties made an agreement to support Trudeau, as such, despite many attempts to vote non-confidence and trigger an election. It didn't happen. 😢
lol...Canada does not work like the US. In Canada, the Liberal Party made a deal with the New Democratic Party (lefty communists) and blocked out voting. That's how he was in power for 9 years. The lesson is that just because you have more political parties do not make it better.
I'm disappointed that he stepped down. It was a coward's exit in my opinion. I'd rather have seen him come back and face a no confidence vote and then face the voters in an election so that we would have the privilege of handing his defeat to him. But, on the upside, at least we will be rid of him!
He was the worst Canadian PM ever, probably. But most Canadians have forgotten half of his travesties. Honestly, the list is very long. There won’t be any accountability. Cananda is still a good deal more dystopian than other western nations and heading there fast.
I'm a fighter... I'm resigning. I caused the Parliament shut down after refusing to remit unredacted documents to the RCMP despite it being ordered by the speaker but it's someone else's fault. I've caused a 25% poverty rate, 2 million a year lining up at food banks, 1400 tent cities in Toronto alone, 300000 homeless at any given time, record numbers of overdoses as a result of my drug policies, a failing healthcare system, terrorists illegally entering the country, 275% increase in hate crimes, 125% increase in violence and sexaul assault against women and children, record deficit spending equalling all previous governments in our history, attacked our Charter of rights, introduced a carbon tax that costed the country $12 billion annually and families about $700 more than they pay, caused our GDP to drop to the lowest of the G7, allowed excess immigration levels without oversight, but I work forCanadians....
@frankleninstein it doesn't matter who they select. It's going to be a conservative super majority. The cons are 26points ahead in the polls. Have been 20+% ahead for over a year.
Let us not forgot his tangible accomplishments: Doubling the Canadian national debt; doubling the cost of housing to the point where it is out of reach for most Canadians; putting a record number of Canadians on the food bank lines; seeing violent crime double due to Liberal crime policies; allowing the Canadian military decay to the point where it is essentially non-operational; and an ongoing list of procurement scandals in which tens of millions (hundreds of millions in the case of defense procurement) have been spent with nothing to show for it. The net result is that during his administration Canadians became significant poorer than their counterparts in US. Then there are the recurring ethics scandals both personal and institutional and his suppression of free speech during the truckers' protest, an action that was ruled illegal by the Canadian Courts. Justin Trudeau's problem are largely self-inflicted and a result of his failure to remember the first lesson of politics: i.e Politics is the art of the possible. Forget that lesson at your peril. Which he did and now he has paid the price -maybe. As I write, he is still Prime Minister and could remain so for many weeks, if not months.
He hasnt resigned yet. Just announced he will step down once his party elects a new Liberal Party leader, which won't be until late March with parliament being suspended until then. So Canada's still stuck with this guy until spring.
We Americans do have a former SS man buried at Arlington. Don't know that guys story but some people just wanted to fight the Russians and weren't picky about who was willing to help them do it.
....with a plurality. He's never gained more than 39% of the popular vote. The vast majority have never voted for him. Familiarize yourself with Canadian politics and reevaluate. Your statement is worse than a Canadian saying they have no sympathy for America even though more than half of you voted Biden into office.
4:25 Why would you like an Orwellian bully as a leader? The guy unironically de-personed anyone who criticized him in 2020 through power given to him as the state.
I am surprised Trudeau went out with such a whimper. I'm not a Canadian, but it seemed like Trudeau was to Canada, what Biden was to the United States.
You going to push pro natal policies and shutdown the majority of immigration or not? Nothing else matters to the west, and no one wants to say it out loud.
A lot of us saw him as part of that same liberal elite cabal that we have come to resent. Those expensive laughs at Davos retreats don't bring a reciprocal smile to the faces of the common folk.
Up here in Canada, we Canucks do not elect our prime minister. The party elects their leader, and we vote for the party. It is close to impossible to oust a pm, and he did everything possible to avoid being ousted, as a minority party leader, even cozied up to any other party who'd votecwith him. It's been a pain filled decade for Canadians. And will continue to be until he actually resigns. In three plus months.
It's not over yet. From what I've gathered, he's said he's going to stay on as PM until his party can choose another leader, which could take up until March. There will be a non-elected leader chosen for the party and THEN he will step down. Then, the unelected new leader of the Liberal party will run against the elected opposition. To Americans, this must sound quite familiar.
Canadians will not forget nor forgive what Trudeau did to this country, and we will remember who in power stood next to him as he did it. Everything around us has changed for the worse. Neighborhoods aren't what they used to be. Whether in a larger metropolis or rural Canada just about everything has gone down hill under the Liberal party, and now the entire liberal party needs restructuring if they are to remain a party at all.
Canada needed an influx of more people to replace an aging labor force, but they failed in creating housing for these immigrants. Demand for housing, energy, and other basic goods skyrocketed, and the Labor party failed to anticipate this nor were they willing in time to ease the environmental regulations that would allow for more homes and cheaper energy.
Let's see what the next PM brings. Hopefully something substantive. Over the years I've been dismayed by the over the top political correctness coming out of the major cities like Montreal with 13+ different languages displayed in the subway to translate basic information. Catering to immigrants over citizens has only facilitated many immigrants to simply not learn the common language of the country [mainly English; and French in Quebec]. Not sure why any country would pander to this even for tourism. However this is just the tip of the iceberg. I'd like to see Canada do better for their citizens.
You cant be a PM without being the party leader. But it is an arsenic cake. By proroguing parliament and having a leadership race among the liberal party they are ensuring that the NDP who have supported them through 2 minority government will continue to vote yes in comfidence all the way through the October election date rather than a spring election like the majority of canadians wanted. So.we are far from being done being abused by this government.
Trudeau resigned before Trump takes office saving himself the humiliation of being fired by Trump. Trudeau can now focus on his personal addiction and marital problems.
Pretty much everything that dragged Harris down did the same to Trudeau. Immigration, crime, the economy and their response to these things, have made the Liberal party and Trudeau very unpopular.
People are sold on the idea of global centralized socialized governance giving no thought to the reality of the catastrophic outcomes of such aims. This is why we should teach history through an objectivist lens. What are the actual outcomes for actual people? Consolidating power in fewer and fewer hands in the hopes that they will wield such power in a judicious manner that benefits "all" is naive and reckless!
