I suffered kidney failure from being an alcoholic ! I collapsed at home and lay unconscious for eleven days before the police rescued me ! I had dialysis at the freeman hospital for about six weeks ! I was extremely lucky and my kidneys started working again ! this was a life changing experience and made me reevaluate my lifestyle and stopped drinking ! the care and treatment I received was amazing ! that was the least I could to to show my appreciation to the staff there !

I am 40 with end stage renal disease and have been on hemodialysis for the past 6 months. Every Tues, Thurs, Sat at 4:30AM. This week I made the switch to peritoneal dialysis at home. I would recommend PD to anyone who likes their independence. I can now travel again! I just have to take a small machine and my supplies along. Plus I don’t have to go in at 4:30AM anymore, which is quite nice.

He makes everything sound peachy with few problems or inconveniences. I’ve been on dialysis for almost 10 years. I’m on it for life. No transplant for me! A new HCA once said “It’s keeping you living.” I corrected her, telling her it keeps you alive and there’s a big difference between living and being alive. The drugs regime is depressing because it’s never just one thing - diabetes, cardiovascular problems etc. The NHS has kept me alive for a long time and I’m very grateful, but dialysis isn’t as rosy as he’s painting it. If you’re contemplating dialysis speak to someone who’s on it, face to face.

Sorry to hear about all this. I'm not on dialysis but based on extensively researching everything it seems like my kidney function is low. I dare not go for a walk, for the pain the next 3 days.
I have a question for you. Which medications in the video are required for the dialysis process to work? Or the meds are specifically prescribed to help with symptoms?

This Guy pretty calm about it as a person who is on dialysis , Im end stage myself , You must roll with it , it will knock you down after treatment many sit in the lobby before driving home , but I usually fall asleep about an hour after , but fell much better the next day or weekends. If the take too much fluids You will cramp like level 10 , I don't let them continue , that's enough for the day.Im in my 50's and most there are much older than me though recently we got in 2 guys in their 40's . These machines take too much minerals from your body , side effects are very dry skin , rashes fatigue ,and bleeding . though a spinal cord injury from years ago doesn't help. This Fellow has a good support an least is able to enjoy a comfortable life , but if your poor , your life is far from that , its whether you even have a meal the next day an must survive on those protein shakes from the center. I wish Him well from one to another an who ever reads this take care of your body , eat right get routine blood tests.

@@KoalaBeer. usually you do get fluid buildup bc your kidneys cannot get rid of the water. You don't always have to have the swelling. For example, me personally, I also have a FEW other issues. One being that i Also have an ileostomy.(I have no colon and only feet of my small intestine left). My ostomy puts out allot of water. It runs thru me. Hence, I only weigh 76 lbs. Very very tiny woman.
Ask the doctor to run a kidney function test on you. It's a test of about a couple dozen things. Only one tube blood needed. On that test will be a GFR. A GFR week tell you at what percentage your kidneys work and tell you which stage you are in. There are 5 stages. Each one means something different on how to treat it. His to eat, drink and which meds to take. Very helpful info.
Thank you for your empathy. I've made peace with my decision. My kids are raised and educated and I'm 60 years old. I've suffered enough. I really do appreciate you. My dad passed away a couple of years ago. My dad had dialysis 3 times a week. I knew my dad had a hard time accepting the condition. Unfortunately this condition runs in dad part of the family. It’s a matter of time before I get this . 😢.

Protein binders? I take phosphorus binders. My nephrologist encourages the consumption of protein because dialysis takes it out of the blood. Maybe the machines in the U.S. are different?

i was on dialysis for 3 months and hated it. I would get sick and throw up sometimes from too much fluids being pulled, and most days I went home with a splitting headache, but I shouldnt be complaining because I only had to deal with it for 3 months and luckily my kidneys bounced back enough to suffice w/o the need of fluid extract via dialisis. I met fokls that had been on it for a couple decades already and for the rest of their lives. so sad. its better than dying early tho, thank goodness for dialysis.

The idea of dialysis fills me with dread. My eGFR was 9 when it was last taken and I don't know what I should do for the best. This isn't really any kind of cure, is it, it just defers the awful day.
Do you know of anyone with end-stage CKD who has decided not to undergo dyalisis and taken the conservative care route? If so, could you provide me with a link? Thanks in advance.
