Talon Sage Yes, neurologists (usually do pain management...and dual cert in psychiatry) are pretty well known for often being horrible to chronic illness patients and being psychologizing...aka telling people w/ physical illness that they are crazy, causing their own illness, have false illness beliefs etc. Or totally think a valid illness recognized by the WHO is bogus. I personally had a horrible experience and was run down about seeking help for physical conditions I have...that according to him are depression or a personality disorder? Idk! He's the crazy one. I have ME/CFS, POTS (tilt table test confirmed at a hosp), EDS-3, carpel tunnel syndrome, etc etc. I don't want to be sick and it's horrible when you're trying to gain functionality and you get burned. I was not near as educated on my conditions as I am now. I was diagnosed as a teen w/ ME but never educated on relapse etc.

Good for you for finding a pain doc that will help you AND that doesn't disregard your pain. I've had chronic pain since I was 14 (I'm 57 now) not a day goes by without pain. I wouldn't know what's it's like NOT to be in pain. I commend you for taking an active role in your health. And your knowledge of your illnesses astound me. You are an inspiration to all.

Hello Jaquie! I don't have any chronic illnesses, so I don't know exactly what that's like, but I just wanted to say how your videos have inspired me to enjoy all the little things in life, like going on "adventures" instead of thinking of things as a chore. I love your optimistic personality and I hope your pain management works out wonderfully, because I know you deserve it!

Ok before I say anything, PLEASE bare with me I'm typing this whilst on a high amount of ketamine. I've just had my 8th bowel surgery today and I just wanted to tell you how much you've inspired me to get up everyday when things have been tough :) I have lots of complex issues with my bowels, causing a lot of problems with my physicians. I'm under the NHS so replacing these people is pretty difficult but you've inspired me to stand up to them :) As a result I'm now lying in hospital recovering from a surgery to (fingers crossed) get my life back on track! Thank you so much for inspiring me! -ps I take Zofran everyday too, it's the best anti sickness :)

My Dad is an anesthetist doctor, who specializes in pain management. He has a ketamine clinic. Most of his patients have had many benefits! Of course it depends on the amount of ketamine you are getting. One patient wasn't able to walk long distances, and now the patient goes on 5km jogs nearly daily :)

I suffered a long time because of them just not caring. But, the pain Dr I saw today listened and validated my severe fibromyalgia and myofascial pain. I cried because i finally found the help I've needed for so long!

I hope everything goes well, I had high dose ketamine infusion for 5 consecutive days, it is approved for CRPS only as far as I know. I have EDS as well and at Cleveland clinic they focused on my CRPS, for my EDS I only had trigger point injections and PT which is the main modality of therapy. I'm glad you like this doctor! I have chronic pain from several different conditions, & when you said the doctor talked about other people thinking chronic pain sufferers were fine because they outwardly look fine but have so much pain inside, I began to weep, because that's exactly how I feel...how I wish I could find a doctor like him in Texas...I truly hope the Ketamine helps your pain.

Girl, I had ketamine infusions for over a year every single month. My insurance company paid for them no problem. I had BCBS. I know every insurance company is different, but hopefully you will get approved for it. Make sure you predose with antinausea meds. I know you can't take phenerghan but you should ask your doctor to give you something to relax you or make you sleepy before he gives you the infusion. I had horrible hallucinations, each and every time. And the only way I could deal with the infusions is to try to sleep through them. If you have any more questions about ketamine, feel free to ask

I had horrendous reaction to ketamine. I was hallucinating and terrified of everything. I was in hospital at the time having it by infusion. They stopped it and had to give me injection to reverse it which knocked me out for the day. I still had symptoms for about a week. Never again! I'm on fentanyl patches now and OxyContin tablets. X

Christie Betts yes, Ketamine is a very common drug used in the vet world. But we didn't use straight Ketamine on our cats or dogs. Cats get Telazol, Ketamine and Xylazine. Dogs get Ketamine and Valium. It really helps with the side effects of the Ketamine 😉

I'm so glad you found a doctor that you can trust and will help you. I've been going to a pain clinic for about 8 years now. The reason I go is that I've had rheumatoid arthritis since I was 11 years old. That means I've been in moderate to excruciating pain for 45 years now(24 hours a day, 7 days a week, etc etc etc...you get the idea). I always see the PA at my clinic and he is absolutely wonderful, but when I first started going to this clinic I had to see the doctor, who owns the clinic, one time. He was such a jerk. He said "well I've heard rheumatoid arthritis really isn't that bad". I was so shocked that he had the nerve to say that to me that I just stared at him....speechless. 8 years later, that comment of his still hurts. But, I am grateful that I'm able to be treated there(and it only takes me 8 minutes to get there).

Jacque. Pain Management has been so helpful to me but it did take trying it more than once before finding a good pain management team. Like you quality of life is really important to me and I am now cared for by a team of pm specialists at a university teaching hospital. When it comes to a great PM doc, any distance is worth it. They truly make that much of a difference. When it comes to Ketamine therapy, it will remain in the experimental phase. That's because the patent expired decades ago. My PM wants me to pursue the slow drip therapy, but it's just too cost prohibitive. It's so sad that something that might help me, is out of reach right now.

I have EDS and your videos are such a comfort and inspiration. In addition to EDS..I was recently diagnosed with anklosing spondylitis (they found it due to the exorbitant pain and fatigue after multiple blood tests). It's a form of spinal arthritis that's autoimmune induced. You may want to get checked for it (as neck problems are one of the initial symptoms). I was tested for h1b27. I've started a new medication that I hope will lessen the attacking of my immune system against my spine.☺️ *Gentle hugs!*

I can completely understand the neck pain. I'm on muscle relaxers and naproxen, both of which is a last resort. I do heat and ice therapy which do help some. Once a month I do trigger point therapy with Novocain to help with most of the pain. I've tried PT and that does nothin. I have Degenerative disc disease in c5-c6. Im going to be starting my Orencia for my RA which should also help with the inflammation in my neck as well. Good luck with the new update and hopefully all will work out.

Hi Jaquie. I'm currently working on training my dad's dog to become an alert dog for his diabetes. She won't be a full time service dog due to his work situation and some sociability issues she has but we want her to be able to alert whenever his sugar drops. Do you have any advice for new trainers?

Hi Emmy. I actually JUST watched an outstanding vdeo on the Frey family's UA-cam about how her dog was trained with cotton balls and saliva to pick up and detect low blood sugar! I think their UA-cam is the Frey Life and then scroll for the video with the dog behavioral therapist and "all about oliver", her dog. I hope that helps; it really fascinated me.

I am prescribed to narcotics like morphine(helps with pain but makes me very tired)and lorazepam(helps with my anxiety).
I have a chronic disease called Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and suffer from pain in lots of areas like lower back, rib pain, and shoulder pain but I wish there was a different way to manage the pain because I hate taking narcotics and try not to but sometimes it isn't an option.
Being in a wheelchair all day is not as easy as it looks.
I may not have that much in common with you but I am glad I found you because I feel like I have a connection with you in someway which makes me confident enough to talk a little bit about myself.

Toradol (Ketorolac) can increase risk of heart attacks or strokes in some patients. Watch the dose and keep the daily below 40mg per injection. Short-term, it also has some nasty G.I. side effects, like bleeding and ulcers. It will be interesting to hear how you feel after an injection. Ketamine also has a favorable side effect profile compared to benzos or other DAs. Good luck!

The kids at school and even teachers have resorted to making fun of her and telling her shes faking her disease. I have about had it. She is 16 years old. I also have chronic pain.

Hi Jacquie i'm from Panama I love your videos I also suffered of Dysautonomia and CRPS. I take a lot of meds but they doesnt kill the pain to 0 but they helped me to stand day by day. When Im in a lot of pain I have to used Ketamine inpatien for 7 day in ICU that was in Philadelphia the first time because here no so many doctors do it. It was fantastic. Then we find a doctor here in Panama who is now my pain manegement doctor. I have had many infussions here in Panama. Now the problem is that ketamine is not coming to Panama and I need to buyed it in USA :(. Im a medical doctor doing my internship that is so hard because i have to do long shifts of 24 and 32 hours without sleep but I loved it💕 Because of my chronic illnesess I had to graduated when it was possible and do my work on my own rithm. If I had to stayed in bed that they well thats my chronic life like you said we have to keep moving forward😊💕. Sorry for the long message😶

If you can stand it from a sensory perspective, I find Salonpas stickers quite useful, especially for my neck and shoulder pain. I also use a topical rub that I can only get in the UK; it's called Radian B, and it combines ibuprofen and capsaicin. For some reason, that combo really works for me. I can send you some if you want to try it and if your docs approve! I also use lavender spray on my heating pads and wheat bags--I think the relaxation helps relieve the pain indirectly.

I'm glad you touched on the MM legalities! I don't think people realize how restrictive it is in Florida. People recommend it to me all the time and while it's something I'd be willing to try, I don't qualify as I don't have one of the very few conditions they have on the approval list. People just read the headline of "Florida approves medical marijuana!" And not the asterisk of *for people with a few conditions.
It sucks, but I'm sure it will be legal federally someday soon.

I don't know if specific positions could end up injuring you, but one of the surprising side effects of total pain relief for me was that I accidentally put myself into positions that re-injure my back. So if you have great success with your pain management (I hope you do, it sounds promising :) ), definitely keep that in mind. Because when the medications wear off- ooh unpleasant surprise. ;)

I am possibly getting Ketamine as well. My chronic pain journey has been treacherous, and very long. It's kind of my last option, but some of my doctors are hesitant to try, because of the way my pain is, and the amount of the things that has been unsuccessful. (which has been everything)

    • @ChronicallyJaquie

My doctor said it is safe, but hard to get insurance coverage. I mean, everything has risks and generally you do not want to use sedation unless you need to, but since I need it anyways and I am a good candidate we will use it. I am hoping you find a good solution!

Amen Sister to Chronic Pain. It drains any good energy one may have replacing it with weakness, more joint, tissue & muscle pain, in my case, I have Fibro, Peripheral Neuropathy in hands/arms/back/legs/feet. They are always falling asleep, tingling/burning/stinging, deep bone pain, and the list goes on. It's too long to list them all. The pain that accompanies all these various invisible illness' is also too long to list. My list of invisible illness is too long to list but I will say again, Fibromyalgia is my worse monster. Isn't it amazing how we're able to hide our disabilities, our pain & depression, behind smiles so fake they look real? I've suffered chronic pain my entire life. As far back as I can remember. One learns to hide it because others simply don't understand or seriously don't want to be brought down by it. Luv this vid +ChronicallyJaquie. You touched on a lot of positive & negatives of chronic pain. Subjects that ppl with chronic pain never think about but are always on the minds of non pain sufferers.

I tried ketamine infusions for my severe fibromyalgia pain (and depression) and I was super bummed that it didn't work (especially since I flew out of state because it's cheapest in denver). • @Jaims418

It's very interesting to hear that your using Ketamine. I have been following studies about its use to permanently treat depression. It's supposed to be given in six doses of very low dosage but it's also experimental. So not covered by a dr. And it's about 600$ per dosage. Your supposed to not have to take anti depressants after and your depression is cured. I'm waiting a little to hear more about the experiments and than decide if it's worth the cost.

I've been thinking about seeing someone again for my chronic pains, I've just been pushing it off to the side for so long after my two heart attacks. Doctors think I have nerve damage or muscle damage in my spine that's causing all of my chronic pains in my body.

Chronically Jaquie I've been preoccupied with other health care as well, since I have CHD and other chronic illnesses. So that topic worries me a tiny bit.

I use it for my severe fibromyalgia pain and I find that it works better than narcotics. The only issue is that I hate feeling high, but I need thc for pain relief (but cbd works for most people, it just doesn't for me for some reason). It helps dull the pain and I would be having an even harder time without it. I use it in tinctures and occasionally vape it, so it doesn't have any negative health effects for me.

I really enjoy your videos. I don't know whether this is a too personal question but how do you deal with intimacy and self love, acceptance and confidence? I suffer from an endocrine disorder and this past year has been horrific in regards to me losing my confidence and I've gained weight and my life just isn't the same as it was before my surgeries. I'm 33 and feel like I'm 63. Do you have any advice? Tfs xox

    • @ChronicallyJaquie
      @ChronicallyJaquie  7 років тому +11

I do not talk about intimacy as that is between my husband and I, but as for self worth I see it this way: Chronic illness can impact our physical appearance. But I am still me, 100%. Sure, when I dropped to a dangerously low weight and looked like I could break I did not like the way I looked. I needed to adjust to the tube coming out of my stomach. But there is so much to beauty beyond our looks. I find beauty in the way I treat others, in how I reach others with my story, in how I hold my husband and how I am brave enough to face all the challenge and still be me at the end of it all. My body is incredible for going through all this and STILL being here, and that resilience is what I find beautiful, tubes, ports, scars and all.
