All the piece of mine are on the way, including a completely built board by jack makes, except for the lense that I'm waiting for froggo to drop again. I seriously can't wait. This has been a dream of mine since I was a child to have the smaller gameboy that places original carts and uses original chips etc. I love it! Thanks for showcasing it!
The Gameboy modding community is as impressive as it is insane. Y'all will literally engineer sci-fi technology to avoid emulation. No shade thrown. The Gameboy was my first console, and I probably wouldn't be a game designer if not for my experience with it. I genuinely love how much dedication the community has for the games and hardware.
Super dope to watch this right after Tad's video. Thing is an absolute marvel of engineering prowess. Tad crushed this. Edit - YOU CAN BUY THEM WITH THE CHIPS ALREADY ON IT???? Wow I might actually build one now I like that you and Tad used different solder techniques, and you showed a prepopulated board.
thing is this doesn't make sense for virtually anyone that's not sponsored by PCBWay cause it's just way too expensive even without the shell it's insanely expensive
and that should in fact be "people who don't have a lot of experience soldering and the high quality tools that go with it" It's not an easy project is what I mean. (And I'm also not saying that it should be. Just that getting good at electronics takes real dedication and time.)
this is sooo cool I want this sort of treatment for all the handhelds and consoles. just seeing everything looking more stealthy and stylish really appeals to me. If I could get something like this for dreamcast and sega saturn i'd be soooo happy.
Im praying the screen lenses, (The last piece I need for my almost complete build) dont sell out again when he puts more up, because of this amazing vid ahah
I would honestly cover the cartridge a bit more so you wouldn't rest your fingers on it. The labels get greasy too easily. But it's an awesome case design even so
I've been watching all your videos for months. I see the satisfaction on all projects completed. But in the end...🤷♀️we already played and keep replaying the same games. So 🤔 after I finish repairing or upgrading, I'll sell it. My point is the "satisfaction" on a job well done and functioning upgrades. So if I may say in slang, I feel you Tito💯
Wish the modding scene on other handhelds was as extensive as the game boy family's, but given there are billions of game boys to sacrifice in the name of development, can't say it surprises me.
I am gonna give this mod a go instead of the Gameboy Pocket Color, just waiting for all the parts to come in the mail now. This video inspired me to make the leap!
I'm guessing that the silver outside of the battery is nonconductive as it is pressing up against the cartridge pins? This is a gorgeous project! The titanium is amazing! Now I want Dennis' Turbo Express shell in Ti with Cosam's PCB!
Hey Tighe! You are correct, it is non-conductive. As soon as the express shell is available I will see if PCBWay will make it out of titanium. That would be crazy and amazing at the same time 😅
Did anyone else start carting this up to order from PCB Way? Seems like the cost is going to be a lot higher than $300 and that doesn't include a donor GBC. I put the titanium shell in the cart and that alone was over $300. Potential total build cost almost $900. Flex connector to the driver carting for over $100. Must be doing something wrong?
The titanium shell is over $500. The whole build will be over $300 depending on the material used for the shell ranging from printing yourself if you have a 3D printer to cnc machining in titanium at the upper end.
@@MattStevens-xv4fcyeah I just selected titanium for each part and the total is at $560 🤯 can the sourced gb chips and gba cart slot be sourced individually?
Tito, I am going to be offline for the next two years, and I wanted to say thanks for being the best channel for retro consoles and bringing knowledge of these beloved devices to the rest of us. You got me into gamecube modding and I have found a wonderful hobby in modifying, restoring, and repairing old consoles and technology. But anyway, I'll be back in two years, can't wait to see what I can catch up on. See ya around, Tito.
Can you do a tutorial video on your soldering technique? I've been holding for a while but you make that CPU soldering look so smooth and effortless. Lol
I've never understood why so many two button console projects use the up-right ba angle when up-left ab is superior. Having both buttons at the natural holding angle of your thumb and without having to roll is just better imo
imo, the up-left orientation only makes sense for platformers where you hold one of the buttons to run. For anything where you need discrete taps on the face buttons, I find the standard orientation more natural, and that's most of the GB games I play.
@@No_True_Scotsman Think of the SNES/Switch Y and B layout, or the Xbox's X and A layout. I don't move my thumb to hit each button with the pad of my thumb, I rock my thumb and use the knuckle for B and the pad for A.
Dang! I almost finished an advanced mod before Tito made a video on it. I went the blank pcb route and am just missing the screen lens. I hope you've checked out Orangeglo's Orange FM cart. It's a pretty neat. As always, top notch video. Can't get enough of the music. Cheers
Wow - I just quoted the case on pcbway in titanium. £140 for the front, £240 for the back, for a total of £380, or ~$480 USD! That's one expensive gameboy.
Very nice work, but I think it's a waste using parts from an original GBC. If the console is functional there is no need to do this, and if not it's better to fix the original console. However, if the Tad would be sold as a complete handheld with all the needed pieces would be awesome.
Ehh.... I don't know about this.... I'm not really into these insane mods, I'd much rather keep my GBC in it's original form. To me it's perfect the way it is even if it's yellow and the speakers barely work.... Yeah I think I have to check out what's going on with those speakers.
Incredible mod, a shame its nearly impossible to do for a common person :c. I hope to see a full kit someday or at least a pcb built kit of sorts (the hardest part)
This is amazing, but too expensive for me. And then I remember I'm always carrying a device with me with way more power and battery life that can run not only gbc games but lots of other platforms.
Hi Tito, love your UA-cam channel! I wanted to give you a cool tip I just found out. If you’re ever trying to mod any of your GameCubes to USB C, it’s a very simple mod. I’ve found finding a power brick with enough power for the GC a bit challenging. The third party Switch Dock power bricks work great! I bought one and it arrived today for our Switch. I bought a 150w Anker Prime brick to try with the GC and it didn’t work. Not enough amps at the right watts, I guess. But the Switch Dock brick worked perfectly! And it’s a lot smaller than the brick I was using before which was some off brand Chinese brick I had gotten for my Razer laptop. That’s all! Have a great day! Keep up the amazing work!
This is actually so sick
Hi Retro Future 👋
Heck yeah Elliot! Highly recommend!!
When I watched the creators video on it I thought to myself “Elliot would be drooling if he saw this”
Elliot/Tito collab please!

is it posible to buy finish (assambled) product and shipping it to Indonesia? :(

cons: expensive. pros: looks fantastic
With the relaxing music and wholesome vibes I’ve decided Tito is the “Mr. Rogers of Retro” - this is a good thing.
Thank you for the kind words 🙏
I think it's more like the Bob Ross of retro mods. Now we'll add a happy little CPU right here.

This is super cool, but I hate that you have to cannibalize TWO devices. I'd take a thicker case that accommodated the cart connector from a GBC.
@@TVsBen aftermarket SP cart slots are readily available, so no need to cannibalize one, nor do I recommend doing so

It's cool that we have so many of these pcb replacement mods and the like considering the number of broken GBC systems with fonctionnal chips.
That conversion is scary cool. Yet another project I'd be too scared to attempt. Awesome build Tito!
This is amazing. The best GameBoy mod I’ve ever seen. Love the finished size.

Excellent video. Love the titanium. The system really looks stellar! Also, the use of a joycon battery, genius!
So amazing. I'm glad these projects are being done as passion projects. It makes me want to do these customs, if I had the money.
I really wish these kits were sold fully-assembled so we can just buy them outright.
