I don't think it does. An outboard isn't but about 6 inches from the front. I think it's more to do with getting it out of the water over obstacles. I have a video where I built the rear seal on my page that shows more of the tail
instead of a centrifugal clutch, you could use a belt system in which you press down on a clutch pedal to tighten the belt to the drive pulley making it go.

Iv got to build a house for my mother , and get her away from all these steps, my aunt fell down them and broke her back and legs , don't want that to happen to anyone else. I cast a foam come by taking a butter container with spray foam and let it dry then sanded it into a cone shape then I fiberglassed over it and used two short pieces of brake line for the bolts to tighten against . Then used gasket sealer to keep the water out. Lost all that footage due to SD card corruption. .

Yes iv got a friend from South Africa that is a machinist. He builds water crafts . Right now he is casting a prototype that will have two shafts running through the hull of each skid. This thing looks like a drone. The other will have two jet drives , one in each hull. One good thing about that idea is a. It naturally wants to siphon water away from the shaft to to the siphoning effect as long as it's moving
The tva is filling back up to summer pool . I'd like to give it a try. I actually know the torque will increase but the rpm drops but you could go up to an 8 inch with lower torque rpm. Thanks it's something to consider
I put 3/4 marine grade plywood then ran a brace of aluminum 2x4 square tubing with big pop to it's against the back of the rear seat I'll see if I have a picture. The mount is in the video I used 2 1/2 inch zink plated bolts through the transom and through the plywood
Go back to the video and pause it at 4::08 and zoom in. The one on the long bolt is left and right the short one at the transom mount goes up and down. I screenshot it but it want let me post the picture

The only parts not listed in the video was a 2 1/2 inch direct drive pulley for the ,5,/8 inch output shaft and a 3 inch pulley for the predator engine. The rest of the parts are in the video
From Harbor freight. Someone returned it stated, it didn't run. They are shipped without oil so they want run because of the low oil switch kills the current. So I picked it up with tax for $93

I actually built mine a little to long . I'd go six inches shorter if I had to do it again. I think the transom is 19" and I went 26," on the main beam. But it helps with the counter balance with the leading edge even with the bottom of the boat the prop is still 6inches under water at cruising

But the bottom is similar to an oil pan on an engine but the front I had to cover the flange bearing in axle grease and put plastic wrap around it. Then I took a small butter tub and taped it to the front and drilled a hole in it . Then I got a can of spray foam and filled it up so it made a cast of the bearing and surface when that dried I sanded out a cone and put two pieces of brake line tube for the bolts to tighten against them fiberglassed everything together then bedlined it.

The only other way you could do reverse without changing directions of the shaft is reverse thrust. Like a jet when they are landing. Like two rudders that close behind the prop.
I would look into building a system around the prop like putting the prop in an enclosure like a pipe I would also look into putting a small universal joint in the shaft so you can control the angle of the prop.
@@rodneymcdaniel1443 thanks for the advice I think the way a jet reverses flow might work ....I hv a 16 hp vanguard which is 20 with a bigger carb and a 25 Kohler but it's got 900 hours on it ....I thought I might build something like yours first then try the ninja motor....I too thought iwould need a swivel so I could raise prop out of water if I hit something .....I saw a surface on a race boat gave me the ideal.....can you tell me where to buy bearings and shaft and prop on your build ? I cant read it on my phone and dont have a computer ......I like your build I thought surface drive would be better for fishing.....I saw where gator tail spins the motor where prop goes toward front of boat ....seams hard but look at it that half gear they use looks like a power window gear

The part numbers are in the video if you know someone with a bigger screen but there all 5/8 inch. Prop was ebay $18 I'm going to do a follow up video with more indepth since I'm actually getting views. I have an SD card but it got corrupted and am trying to get someone that knows computers. To fix it. I had fun building this little set up. My granddaughter in in the cub scouts and asked if I could get them a boat to get to the island so I bought a Lowe Jon boat and went to bass pro they want $2700.00 for a 3 hp that's almost a $1000.00 a hp so I built her one
I wish you would do a follow up video I think you did a great job on this ......can I run a 1and a quarter shaft .....if so how would I find what taper shaft I need to connect to it? I'm concerned about how to figure the prop size for different motors.....my plan is to build one like yours to gain knowledge then maybe do the ninja engine its 127 hp and is lighter than a 22hp predator and I would think could spin a big prop but my concern is it has 6 gears I'd prop it to use maybe two gears but this motor turns 13k and doesn't begin to make power til around 6k rpm ....but is fuel injected has it's own radiator and fan ...I had a bike a man was in a bad crash I had two actually but built a quad out of one .....I understand the parts from the motor to the shaft I see guys use a electric clutch but myself I have some high end racing kart oil bath clutches that are adjustable I considered a number 35 chain ....how does the single belt hold up? Do you think setting hoop nets a man could use a trolling motor and just glide in and trop it in for reverse? I use the same belt on my 10 HP sawmill with 90lb wheels and it doesn't slip. I haven't shoved the prop in the mud or really gave it a hard beating. Im always building things so other projects have taken priority over this like my log cabin . And building a log lift for the tractor. When I get to working I hate having to stop and bother with the camera . The diy thing is very saturated on here so I just like to work and get it done. Thanks for watching the video

I been messing with your ideal and we think its gonna work.....I been busy bc I cat fish and just bought another outboard but reverse ideal is something I'd not thought of ...my partner in small engines he I'd 80 and says it should work .....not sure how much thru still get to compared to one that turns the prop around but should be enough for fishing....I too have some go kart stuff ....im working on a design to build a remote control trolling motor.....catfishing for money will be tough but I had to have a new job ....my home is set up all most like a off grid ....I build crazy stuff I enjoy the challenge .....I have a bunch of chevy cobalt electric power steering motors that are strong I'm thinking of building a trolling motor with one....I been lookinging into motorized kayaks they seem to be popular ....We live in a world of invention....The RC world has servos that are very strong I use window motors and wheel chair motors combined with a PID......I have a mower deck with wheelchair motors a gas motor for blades and alternator and they can be set to take the same path each time using same starting point and a PID....I built a let's say methanol sthil that controls the temp at top and bottom using these PID.....hv you tried one you can control electrics with percision
My granddaughter is in the cub scouts and she needed to get to the islands to camp so I went to Bps and they wanted 2700.00 for a 3 hp outboard so it was a fun rainy day project . Thanks for watching the video....

Could you use a centrifugal clutch so that it could idle without propulsion?
I actually had one on it that I put on my sawmill . I just lift it out of the water . But the centrifugal clutch still spins the prop .

How do those pulleys stay on the splined shaft?
I cut a keyway in the axle and the pulley has two set screws in them. Similar to the output shaft on the predator engine

Belts slip in salt water.
Never tried it. I'm 10 hrs away from the nearest salt water source .
