Just plain good music. Loved Floyd many years ago, and have never given them up, never will. Hope to been sitting in a rocking chair in my older, old age listening to Pigs on the Wing.
The story I recall hearing is that Snowy went around to the band's studio while they were working on Animals. He and Dave had a chat, and then Roger said "Well, since you're here, why don't we play something", and so Rog and Snowy went into the studio and cut this version of Pigs On The Wing.
David Gilmour has to be the most blessed man in the world. His looks when he was young, his voice and his talent for the quitar. All these so called pop male "artists" from today will never come close to reaching Dave's soles.
By the way guys, it's Snowy White on the lead guitar, not David Gilmore...and it is awesome. I've had this version on US 8-track Tape (only place it was ever released) since it came out in '77. Thanks for posting this much-improved sounding version of it!
If you didn't care what happened to me, And I didn't care for you We would zig zag our way through the boredom and pain Occasionally glancing up through the rain Wondering which of the buggers to blame And watching for pigs on the wing. You know that I care what happens to you And I know that you care for me too So I don't feel alone Of the weight of the stone Now that I've found somewhere safe To bury my bone And any fool knows a dog needs a home A shelter from pigs on the wing
Actually, the solo is from Snowy White (he played with Pink Floyd in the late 70's as a second guitarist at live shows and still currently plays with Roger Waters) and this version of the song is only available on the "Animals" 8-track.
pink floyd the best band i ever seen in my life, pink floyd forever, roger waters is the greatest songwriter for me,pink floyd= roger waters.........final
ive been a floyd head 20 fukn years and i never knew there was more to this song than what was on the amimals album!!!!!!!!!!!!!! what the fuk!!!!!!!!!!!!??? i fuking breathe pink floyd.. how did i not know that???????????
@ziggyonthemoon I am sure someone else has explained herein, but, for the sake of simplicity: due to limitations in the format, the 8-track version of "Animals" had the songs a different order than LP and, later, cd. For 8-Track, the two version of POTW were connected together as one track as heard here. If I recall, the guitar solo is by Snowy White, not Gilmour. Still, very nice.
Best memories from the 70 and something, when I was 13-14 years old .... :) It's always followed me, even to Mallorca, years later, when I called a bunch of englishmen - flying shitsheads - at the snookertable... :) They were! Can't help it :)
How can I find this version in audio?,please someone help me...I think this solo in the middle is really cool and hearing both version together is another bonus...Great
@JJgamer93 I was about to agree but I decided to take a further look at the lyrics. In part 1, he says "IF you didn't care ..." the important part is the if, as that implies that they do in fact care for each other, which is proven in part 2. part 1 is a hypothetical statement, "if we didn't care for each other, we'd live meaningless lives," whereas part 2 is the true statement that closes the album, "but we both know we care for each other so it's cool." but that's just my interpretation.
they didn't cut it in two "on CD," they split it on the vinyl because Animals is a concept album. it's meant to suggest a circular, repetitive theme, just like the start and end of The Wall, and even Wish You Were Here. Waters was into that circular shit.
@ 2:31, Roger is singing "Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun". Don't believe me? Go watch any live video of him singing "Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun".
ive had this version for two years now, i found it llimewire as pigs on the wing rare version. yes it it totally awesome, but before i ever heard this version i was playing it combined not with that awesome solo of course but i just thought it was cool. its also on the Pink Floyd-Tree Full Of Secrets release 9 disc set, with like a 100 other songs and little comps they did for movies and things like The Art Of Tripping and others
from song facts After Floyd's breakup, during his solo shows, Roger Waters combined Pigs on the Wing parts I and II and bridged them with an electric guitar solo played by Snowy White. (thanks, Joe - Piscataway, NJ)
If, as one of you guys did mention, I believe Snowy White is doing the vocal solo, however IS David Gilmour doing the lead guitar here? Just want that clarification, I've been a huge Pink Floyd person since the mid 1970's.
when i read your text i thought uh what is he talking about but after listening to it you are right i have also never heard this version ,where can we get it
It's only avalible on the 8-track tape, but look for the bootleg ""Animal Instincts". David Gilmoure playes a solo on Pigs on the Wing part two. It's not the same, but it's similar
Lyrics: f you didn't care what happened to me, And I didn't care for you, We would zig zag our way through the boredom and pain Occasionally glancing up through the rain. Wondering which of the buggars to blame And watching for pigs on the wing.
i have 2 cd's of all pink floyd albums (i don't remember how i got it :D ) and, there's an "album" called rarities and there's the song, but unfortunatly, i can't find the cd :'(
@envade2 no no no, you're doing it wrong. You're supposed to say: "The Floyd without Wright is like The Beatles without Lennon." Let's not forget his creative genius .
To understand this song better along with the rest of Animals, read George Orwell's "Animal Farm". Its all metaphorical: Pigs w/ wings=big brother government..dogs=lower class of society. Sheep=religion. "a dog needs a shelter from pigs on a wing" means the lower class needs protection from bigbrother government. Where do you think the slang word "pig", meaning cop comes from.`
Id say it was everyones,Waters and Gilmour of course, but as well Wright did great in Dogs and all of it, and Mason is an important piece too. For me the best floyd album musically is a tie match between DSotM, WYWH and Animals
@LUDWIGPARIS Apparently the song was split into two halves at each end of Animals because Roger Waters wanted a higher percentage of the composing royalties. As a single songPigs On The Wing would have got Waters 7/8ths of the money but split he got 9/10ths. Gilmour only had a half credit on Dogs. Wright and Mason - nothing. I prefer it split without the solo. Bookends the brilliant nastiness of the main three songs perfectly.
Rick was the only member to make money from the Wall concerts as technically he was a hired hand, as he was fired during the Wall sessions. The rest of them lost money on it
@DoodooRandyBootyclap they couldn´t START without him, but they couldn´t CONTINUE with him, barret was good por the beginning, but waters was better, you only have to listen dark side of the moon, but also Syd helped for the water´s comotitions, he was important but not the most important, thats all I think
i'd say the 80's were a low point for music and all humanity in general. but i cant help wondering whether the 60's and 70's were really all that great or if they're just idealized by younger generations... anyway i wish i could've been there to decide for myself.
I thought I remembered reading an interview with Gilmour saying he was influenced by Snowy quite a bit. Or maybe it was admiration, either way, I think either of those two could lead to some of Snowy's style bleeding into Dave's.
One of the best ever Dave Gilmour Guitar solos that wasn't. Superlative guitar work by Snowy White.
R.I.P. Richard, Making Musicfor the angels to dance to x
the solo reminds me of "mother", from "the wall"
Yup.
Pink Floyd's music is just something else entirely I don't know anything else like it anywhere. Just completely amazing.
Animals is my favorite Pink Floyd album but I've never heard this complete version before! Thanks for posting this. :)
one of the most beautiful passionate solos of all time.
Such a great band... I wish people were still puting out music like this.
just a beautiful song, the guitar so sharp and clear
Just plain good music. Loved Floyd many years ago, and have never given them up, never will. Hope to been sitting in a rocking chair in my older, old age listening to Pigs on the Wing.
one of my favorites on this album. Love Floyd.Never tire of it
The story I recall hearing is that Snowy went around to the band's studio while they were working on Animals. He and Dave had a chat, and then Roger said "Well, since you're here, why don't we play something", and so Rog and Snowy went into the studio and cut this version of Pigs On The Wing.

Animals is really underrated really just 5 songs and they are all pink floyd classics..!
By the way guys, it's Snowy White on the lead guitar, not David Gilmore...and it is awesome. I've had this version on US 8-track Tape (only place it was ever released) since it came out in '77. Thanks for posting this much-improved sounding version of it!
Man, that solo in the son was amazing, never heard it before....cool!
If you didn't care what happened to me,
And I didn't care for you

Occasionally glancing up through the rain
Wondering which of the buggers to blame
And watching for pigs on the wing. You know that I care what happens to you
And I know that you care for me too

Of the weight of the stone
Now that I've found somewhere safe
To bury my bone

To whoever edited the song togethe, great job! The solo sounds like something from Mother.
Beautiful song !!!!!!
i love that solo, its genius
That is nice. Plain and simple.
pink floyd the best band i ever seen in my life, pink floyd forever, roger waters is the greatest songwriter for me,pink floyd= roger waters.........final
@BigGunsBates Big Guns, that solo is Snowy White from Deep Purple who stood in for some guitar work. Only released in the UK and Japan I believe
Man,I really like this song.
You made me laugh so much that I gave your comment thumbs up ;)
AWESOME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dave the best of Guitar!!.
That isn't David you dumb fuck
ive been a floyd head 20 fukn years and i never knew there was more to this song than what was on the amimals album!!!!!!!!!!!!!! what the fuk!!!!!!!!!!!!??? i fuking breathe pink floyd.. how did i not know that???????????
assolutamente geniali, niente e nessuno puo'paragonarsi a loro da questo punto di vista.

@Nickolaars Interesting observation. I started learning Mother and realized a lot of it was this song.
How can I find this version in audio?,please someone help me...I think this solo in the middle is really cool and hearing both version together is another bonus...Great
@11ellsbells lol this is the first and fifth track of their 1977 album 'Animals' put together
@JJgamer93 I was about to agree but I decided to take a further look at the lyrics.

Image & Lyrics Fit Perfectly

It's Snowy White playing the solo. Nick Mason confirms it in his autobiography.
@ 2:31, Roger is singing "Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun". Don't believe me? Go watch any live video of him singing "Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun".

Yeah... Wow.. Thought I'd heard it all...
where did you get this from? Been listening to floyd for 27 years and have never heard this before.
If, as one of you guys did mention, I believe Snowy White is doing the vocal solo, however IS David Gilmour doing the lead guitar here? Just want that clarification, I've been a huge Pink Floyd person since the mid 1970's.
we miss pink floyd...
@turboted777
You are absolutely right !!!
This muse is beautiful !
when i read your text i thought uh what is he talking about but after listening to it you are right i have also never heard this version ,where can we get it
This song really became one of my favourites by Pink Floyd, after I heard this version with Snowy White's solo. It's awesome.
It's only avalible on the 8-track tape, but look for the bootleg ""Animal Instincts". David Gilmoure playes a solo on Pigs on the Wing part two. It's not the same, but it's similar
i find it baffling that this version was never included on a floyd release, at least on a compilation or a reissue.
gran recuerdo syd barrett y richard w.grandes
de la banda de pink floyd.gracias ok
Where do you get the complete version of this song besides the old 8-track? Did I miss a release somewhere?
SNOWY WHITE on the "extra" guitar solo baby!
Desconocia que puercos sobre alas existia en una version unida 1 y 2 en el album animals son la primera y la ultima cancion.
Lyrics:
f you didn't care what happened to me,
And I didn't care for you,
We would zig zag our way through the boredom and pain
Occasionally glancing up through the rain.
Wondering which of the buggars to blame
And watching for pigs on the wing.
these two songs are only one...
@TheMrintensity the song "Stop" is only 30 seconds long
The birds sounds at the beginning of Sheep are the same as at the beginning of "Goodbye Blue Sky"
i have 2 cd's of all pink floyd albums (i don't remember how i got it :D ) and, there's an "album" called rarities and there's the song, but unfortunatly, i can't find the cd :'(

Minor skin grafts can be performed on pigs by covering any cuts and
grazes with thin strips of bacon.
peace to all
Scotianwhatcher: Syd's death was from pancreatic cancer and occurred a year after the Live 8 concert.
........mind=blown
Thanks I didn't know it was the ex Thin Lizzy Snowy White
Yes they are reuniting. There is a charity tour being planned for right after Roger Waters finishes his DSotM tour.
a band is about the sum of the parts rather than any one individual. obvious.
does anybody know where i can download a version of this audio. sounds so good.
@envade2 dude, are you saying that Piper at the gates of dawn isn't listenable?
Shine on Rick
@LUDWIGPARIS Apparently the song was split into two halves at each end of Animals because Roger Waters wanted a higher percentage of the composing royalties. Snowy White "Goldtop: Groups & Sessions"
@mrbeerjones Yep, You're welcome =)
is this authentic? i like it anyway
@MetallicBill Okay :)
what can you say......poor video...great song
Rick was the only member to make money from the Wall concerts as technically he was a hired hand, as he was fired during the Wall sessions. The rest of them lost money on it
@DoodooRandyBootyclap they couldn´t START without him, but they couldn´t CONTINUE with him, barret was good por the beginning, but waters was better, you only have to listen dark side of the moon, but also Syd helped for the water´s comotitions, he was important but not the most important, thats all I think

@omega4104 Ok thank you for the explanation and i´m sorry ja
G E N I U S
where can i buy the record
I have it on 8 track
I thought I remembered reading an interview with Gilmour saying he was influenced by Snowy quite a bit. Or maybe it was admiration, either way, I think either of those two could lead to some of Snowy's style bleeding into Dave's.
im possibly the only floyd fan who thinks that sid leaving the band is the best possible thing that could ever have happend.
Love this song and all the memories it brings back, good times, I only hope in my lifetime I can make a song nearly half as good.
I know it’s 13 years later, but how did you get on with the song?
I never knew this version was on an album I thought it was just released on the 8-track release????
You can find it on the Snowy White collection called 'Goldtop'.
