It's almost unbelievable how inspiring this movie has turned out to be. BTW, you seem very passionate about cinematography and it elevates this video so much. Great work! I would love to see more videos like this.
I would absolutely love more videos with this breakdown structure. Going over iconic films with dramatically different looks to really delve into the techniques behind it. Love it. Thank man. FCM
@@theqazman please do more videos like this, you covered so much and I learned so much by just looking up Batman color grading, I love how much you love the colors and cinematography in this. I would love more breakdowns like how you did here!
I need more of these!! So amazing to hear your thoughts on all this. Really elevated my perception. I loved the look of the movie too and now I have the words for why
Bro this type of content that you bring it's incredible! I grew up so much with your channel, but this is on another level, thank you so much... can't wait for the look recreation!! I saw "The Batman" yesterday and as soon as I went out from the cinema I checked in IMBD, and I was 100 % sure that the work was very similar to Dune and it's excatly how I was expecting. I was so shocked about how accurate was my intuition and to be honest without you I'd never be able to do it!! Again great job!
I think the film was amazing! The look was flawless imo the lenses arri Alfa looked amazing. Did you know some of the lenses they used were also Russian conversions Inc Helios 44! The guys from iron glass helped them with the lens choice.
Great "tutorial", not only for the sharp eye but for you're explaining the ideas behind the decissions! This is what makes a difference with your stuff. Congrats!
I loved the film. Ever since that second trailer, I knew the look was going to be very different from any of the other Batman films and this is more fitting in terms of mood and tonality. I don't think I've ever seen anything similar to The Batman, not in recent years at least 🤔
I’m always confused by this. This is technically a complimentary color in a red yellow blue color system (which can be argued with technically) vs a positive color system(rgb) and how color schemes fit in this.
Seeing this makes me wanna see the rec709 vs graded comparison, I guess they did a lot on set but I'm very curious about how much was done through colorgrading too :D (especially for the shots at 25:08)
I definitely agree about it being bold, I would be in two minds through the whole color grading process thinking about it from other people's POV's.. It does have that LOG feel to it, a lot has been done to the image, but to the untrained eye it would seem that not a lot has been done. I'm all for crisp, clear images personally, but I love how ballsy they got with the grade.
Love it man. It was really awesome to hear your level of inspiration and just overall love for this. Thanks for sharing man. Can’t wait to see this film.
I hope they put the subtitles soon, you are great, I admire your work a lot, I use an 8-bit sony alpha camera and the truth is that your videos have helped me a lot, thanks!
Wassup Qazi ✌ nice video, really good. i wonder if u could make a video showing how to get free raw footage to pratice color grading. anyway thanks for ur content bro! 👊
Dear Qazi, I've been following you more than 3 years ,not just to learn resolve but to hear from you a lot .You are so different, you go out of syllabus but still keeping within the borders.. But to say, this video (sorry, Class) has gone all its limits, OMG! None can explain the hidden secrets, the film makers do while filming, because they want to be it with them. But here...great dear...hats off ..being a cinematographer from India, I could learn a lot from this single episode alone...I love you dear.
You probably got the mindhunter vibe coz it was also shot on a custom RED and Fincher prefers using more green and yellow in his films as they were losy primarily in the digital age
You may download some of the trailers from 'The Digital Theatre'. They provide lossless quality footages which could make a world of a difference to the scopes.
What I loved about seeing this in the cinema is, they made you feel as if you were Bruce Wayne. He lived during the night, and he was sensitive to any sort of bright light. He walks in to talk to Alfred in the morning and the morning sun is too much for him. I found, in the cinema, that every time there was a really bright bit of the film, I would be very sensitive to it also. It was so clever.
Couldn't agree more. This was the most vulnerable batman portrayal yet. In other films we knew he was human and can get hurt but we didn't believe it would happen in this one you feel scared for him.
This was really cool! I have come to realize that every film has it's own color life force and you are not creating, you are only letting art come out, your holding the hand of a narrative. I sincerely love this video Qazi. The Batman was dark, and I won't lie, I went to watch it in the cinema with a cinematographer friend of mine and he was blaming some things on the fault of the cinema, till we noticed it was the way it was 😅😅😅. Good to know mad men still walk amongst us 😂😂 For me, The Batman wasn't colorfully beautiful, but it was powerful, every frame had a particular powerful emotion it transmitted to us. The Batman is what I call cinema. Thank you 🙏
So how different was the colour grade for the trailers than the movie? Or was it different at all? You’re saying that if something dark like this showed up during a football game it wouldn’t make sense. Did they punch things up for ads?
You're studying several shots in this that are of LED screens behind the actors. Batman looking over the city or Catwoman looking at him. Those city skies behind them are LED screens.
I think it is the first batman that is actually loyal to the comic book, so the blueprint was there, they are just the first to do it. There are also alot to Korean films that have grades like the batman, but cause not mainstream they Don't get seen. Like they say " nothing is original, everything has already been done , you just try to do it differently " people get to tied to rules , scopes etc. For film, I think more people need to start breaking the rules. I personally hated the joker grade ,
I loved "The Batman". I thought it was the best Batman movie in regards to the cinematography and look. It made Gotham an immersive and engaging world unlike any previous Batman movie. And story wise I thought they did a great job of showing Batman's humanity and vulnerability as a non-superhero human being.
The shot you call a day shot can't be because the bikes have their lights on. Also, when you say The Dark Knight has a dated grade, maybe you say it because it's different from the new look, the look of grades today. But, that being truth doesn't mean that the new look will look dated eventually while The Dark Knight will look atemporal where you can't place in a period. Finally, on the car chase scene, Greig said that he use vintage spherical Soviet lenses so he could crash and break stuff without worrying about breaking the custom glass so it's not anamorphic.
it must be a mix. because they used the same panaromic 3d panels that were used in the Mandalorian set for all the scenes with the batsignal. So, yeah must be cgi.
It's almost unbelievable how inspiring this movie has turned out to be. BTW, you seem very passionate about cinematography and it elevates this video so much. Great work! I would love to see more videos like this.
Thank you very much.

Would you do a tutorial on how to get that look with milky blacks? I have seen many tutorials on color grading but no one talks about it.
Will do.

Music to my ears. I loved working on this video and there will be many more. 😀
Love that. You are doing the best that you can with the given budget.& resources you have.
Thank you I enjoyed the whole video 🙏🏽 going to implement this color grading style into my upcoming short film
Good analysis, I loved the muddy "dirty" harmonic grading. I have the same approach in painting, big fan of dirty colors painting.
That's awesome.
I was completely mesmerized by the cinematography and grading of The Batman from the first frame to the last.
Agreed.
Very great break down... You should do more video like this. I watch the whole thing
Thank you. Will do. 😀

Nailed it with the vibes.
@14:33 there is complimentary colors too, way less saturated but still in the green family and the light in the red family.
I’m always confused by this. This is technically a complimentary color in a red yellow blue color system (which can be argued with technically) vs a positive color system(rgb) and how color schemes fit in this.
Yes. I love this format. Excellent content and your enthusuasm makes this so watchable. Would love to see more like this. Amazing.
Thank you. Will do.
Awesome video, I loved the conversation from touching on Greg and matt's conversations to the custom lenses I wasn't aware of...
Ty
absolutely love the hour long color grading breakdown
🙏🏾
Love this. Need more breakdowns!
Seeing this makes me wanna see the rec709 vs graded comparison, I guess they did a lot on set but I'm very curious about how much was done through colorgrading too :D (especially for the shots at 25:08)
Yes, I always get itchy about that too. 709-Grade is always so gratifying and eye opening.
I definitely agree about it being bold, I would be in two minds through the whole color grading process thinking about it from other people's POV's.. Completely. Much harder to create exciting looks with low con and sat.
The passion in you have is on another level 💪

@@theqazman I am happy for you bro keep up the good work
more color grading breakdowns, zack snyders immortals or 300 would be great 😍

The look of Batman overlooking Gotham is a VFX shot
Great content as always.
REQUEST: Kindly make a video on how to get Davinci resolve certified. It would help a lot of us. Thank you.
Amazing break down
Great video. Thanks very much.
You're welcome.
Hey Qazi, I must say, I love this format you make on this topic, like we are talking to each other
FCM FAM ✊🏾 thank you, brother. It was a ton of fun to do.
Enjoyed the episode. Excellent. Missed the pro colorist part though.
You probably got the mindhunter vibe coz it was also shot on a custom RED and Fincher prefers using more green and yellow in his films as they were losy primarily in the digital age
Just watched the whole video and WOW! Your breakdown is incredible. I would love to see more breakdowns for some other movies including Dune.
Thank you. Dune will be a ton of fun to do.
I love your videos! Thank you, this is very helpful! :)

That's so awesome. Yeah man, I loved doing it. There will be many more in the near future.
where did you totally legally get this copy 👀 I want to break down / study films using the auto cut detection as well
I like when sou talk about cinematography. Maybe you can do such videos from time to time. It would upgrade your channel even more.
Couldn't agree more. Slowly but surely we can evolve this channel to be more about grading and cinematography.
This was really cool!
I have come to realize that every film has it's own color life force and you are not creating, you are only letting art come out, your holding the hand of a narrative. I sincerely love this video Qazi.

So true man. That's the best part about filmmaking. It's forever evolving and open for interpretation .
Love this!

I am a fan of Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight, but after watching this, The Nolan's Imax feels kinda funny xD
Haha. Thought the same thing.
Oh my God, you should do blade runner next!
Should do more colour grading analysis in conjunction of cinematography analysis :)
Totally.

Thanks. Shotdeck.com.
Qazi, question:
I just watch The Tragedy of Macbeth, and thought it was visually stunning. How would someone go about recreating that look?
50 min???? Les go!
Ayyy

I really like Batman's color grading the most.
💯
Great analysis. Just a note, it says he "considered going", he didn't actually go to all the local restaurants.
Good catch.
Great video

The _Dark Knight_ trilogy is still my pinnacle for Batman in cinema, but Pattinson is now my 2nd favorite cinematic Batman.
Agreed

where he is reading from? which website?
Lil-dirty sounds like a rapper... just saying
❤️
The Batman looks more like Batman Begins than The Dark Knight. Begins would've been a better comparison.
Still not even close or I would've done that. 😀
Sooooo interesting and intelligent.
😀🙏🏾
i recommend fallen angles Christopher Doyle or prisoners Roger Deakins
David Fincher *Gone Girl*
Bingo
Sound is low
👌👏🙏
The batmans pictures look a bit like drawn , they look like cartoons, like comic books.
Totally
I hate the color grading. Awful decision.
Best ever 🤣
