Kana wants to prove that she still has the right to stand on stage, her fame has diminished but her acting will never. She wants to step up to the challenge but after going through what she did, being "easy to work with" "don't cause trouble" "don't shine too much" "don't make a mess" have been hammered in her head that she has to keep doing that just to keep getting hired. Even if it goes against her heart and true potential.
Kana's current acting will almost definitely ensure that she always has a role in the industry, because the big wigs will be able to trust that she can match her performance to the people around her and not have them look badly. Basically, what she did with Melt and crew in Sweet Today. It's not a _bad_ position to be in by any means, but it also means she likely won't be in that "A-list" role that she likely could reach if she went back to her true acting. It would be one thing if this is genuinely what she wanted, but we know this style of acting wasn't one she decided for herself, but one that was beaten into her by the industry. Like Akane said, instead of trying to support everyone around her and match their skills, she should be so great that she forces everyone around her to step up their game to keep up with her if they don't want to look bad.
Na you pretty much hit the nail on the head with the summary on how twisted the entertainment industry is. While based in Japan, it very much applies to every parts of it, look at how many child actors have suffered all these dehumanizing experiences and Kana's situation puts that into light. The writing of OnK is very immersive in the character's psychology, so it was dope to see you catch onto all the intentions after the dialogue passes by! This was such a gorgeous episode and from a manga reader, I cant wait to see how everyone's gonna react to the next one, keep up the great work!
The screen and audience are moving not the stages, Aqua explained it. Remember companies aren't your friends they only care about money and appearances, the entertainment industry is a big and complex company.
4:14 As explained previously the stage does not move the audience seating area can rotate almost 360 degrees to move their view between multiple different sets that are on the stage, and they use the curtains and back drop as projector screens for added visual effects.
The audience floor is moving. Back during the episode when Akane took Aqua, it was explain how the audience floor rotate to compensate movements to one scene to another.
Look at it this way. Some actors only think of increasing their own status, and push for the script to be changed to give them more show time and good scenes, however overall the writer's intention for the plot suffers (narrative more important). Eg Saya Hime had to be more badass to achieve a more satisfying end scene, vs forgettable if Tsurugi overshines and gets the audience's support.
The funny thing is watching this I didn't think arima's acting was what caused her opportunities to dry out. I don't think she would have been known as a genius child actor if she matched herself to others performances as a child. She acted at her best then. The problem was with her attitude on set. She was arrogant, disagreeable and her personality was a piece of work. I think that's the main reason no one offered her jobs anymore, not because she outshone other members of the cast but because they didn't want to work with her. The thing is I think the show is trying to like link the two? Like her personality on and off the set should be one and the same. Otherwise I don't see any reason why she wouldn't have just modified the way she acted off camera and left her acting as it was. Though if the scene with she and akane as children is supposed to show that the producers were asking her to dull her talent then thats a different thing. But so far we haven't seen anything she's been in other than with melt where she was specifically required to tone down her acting. (If anyone thinks differently or has other thoughts then please feel free to comment! I'm just trying to understand kana's whole conflict a lot better.)
I'm not a big akane fan, as she seems down to drag the people she loves down to hell if they ever had a negative whim. However, this is helpful for my caring about her as someone who isn't a hell dragger
The "rivalry" between these two is seriously bringing down the series for me. I don't care for it its filler and its already taken up too many epsiodes. Plus I'll never like Kana after she made fun of Akane for trying to commit suicide in season 1. Who does that?
That wasn't what she said, and she explained why it was both awful and an honest feeling immediately after. It's not "lol", it's "her dying would literally make my life easier. Glad it didn't happen, but I can't deny that".
When it comes to those “Shoo in” roles, they don’t care about how great the other situations are. It’s all rigged and always agreed upon. My cousin worked in the biz in the 90s, and his agency wasted a lot of young aspiring stars’ time with fake auditions 😂😭🫠

its the audiences' seats that moving (rotating), not the stage. they explained about it before
Stages monitors also move so it does move in a way
@@ChocomelJuice only the monitors, not the whole stage

As a moba and mmorpg player i will ALWAYS appreciate a good support players. They often overlooked but their effect on the game are tremendous.

fun fact: kana is only about 3 inches taller than taiga from toradora, and aqua is the same height as ryuuji

This next episode is my favorite!!
I think what Akane is telling us is that Kana is supposed to be a Main Lead type of actress, instead of a supporting one.
Checkout "delico's nursery" I think it's right up your alley.
will you try delico's nursery? i feel like you will love it
Great reaction beautiful goddess queen 🎉❤
What is it on?
