Forget Hp they are even worse than brother. Bought some POS Hp mfp 140w for 200 bucks and nowhere did it say on the box it didnt have usb OR that it needed wifi connection, GPS AND Bluetooth ONLY to even install it the first time. AND NO, it DOES NOT have wifi direct. Buying a printer these days is like choosing wether to get aids or asscancer or both maybe. Fuck I am maaad. I just want a printer that is able to just print from Bluetooth without all the fuss, or from wifi but without a local network with Internet. It seems very much to ask, cause I cant find a SINGLE company that offers that. Unless maybe you spend even more money to get the pro devices.

Thanks! Internet down for days and my lousy provider would not send a tech for days. Tried 2 USB cables on the HP and nothing worked! At around 4:00 of your video I got help to figure out how to print with my iphone.

@@douglasspurlock8412 Nope. Wireless on my phone was on but no Wi-Fi network. In my particular printer, I pressed the buttons ‘Resume’ and ‘Wireless’ at the same time for 3 seconds to turn on Wi-Fi Direct. When printing the document, it showed me the name of my printer on my phone and I just pressed ‘Print’.
Too much wiffle waffle in the beginning setting up cartridges. Go to 3:30 for information relevant to the search. Thank me later.
Printed from my epson using this method as my hotspot isn’t very strong… thanks so much. I had seen direct under wifi as an option before but did not put the two together … so thank you !

Great video of your new printer, biggest problem i have with inkjet printers or maybe i should say my epson one, because i might only use it once a month, i end up wasting half of the ink cartridge in cleaning to get a readable print

Man don't but the deskjet4155 it is GARBAGE. It won't connect until you've wasted ink on several pages. You don't have to do anything different it's IMO just a scam.

Yes, it is!!! Since you helped me be able to use it. I can say I am very happy with it!!!! I have been printing away! I printed my grandchildren pages and pages of Easter coloring pages! Since this coronavirus has everyone staying at home. I just got in my car and drove to their house, and put them on the porch!!! I hope I'm not boring you. AVOID HP AT ALL COSTS. I have the 140w. It's an utter piece of shit. Nothing works to connect it to any device, android, ios, windows, linux. Hp states you need an hp account. You need gps enabled, you need blutooth enabled, you need wifi and internet connection. This is NONSENSE. You can try to get around that, but it 99% wont work. Direct print doesnt work. Even though it shows up as a wifi essid. It's insanity. Whoever is responsible for this product should quit his job right now. He is a moron.
Thanks for this as i went into Currys and the staff told me i need wifi at home, ive tryed looking for a hp envy 5032 but cant find a new one for sale is there another printer i can do this with thats not expensive. Will the Epson 3205 allow you to do this? As i only need it to print of 1 invoice a week so dont want to buy wifi at home to do this!
Thanks I’ve managed to set up the phone and printer. However, I have no Wi-fi and I use my HP Envy 5020 with the HP ink service online.
I tried using my iPhone to tether the printer but that won’t work. I also tried connecting the printer to a BT Wi-fi hotspot which it connects to but because it’s unstable it won’t send the data to Hp for my ink use reports.
So my quandary is what’s the simplest way to get the computer connected?
I’m guessing I have to get a 4g router or get internet in my office ! ?
I’m looking for the cheapest easiest option really.

I have the HP Envy 4500 I used to do it on my phone through my printer without directly the internet but the Wi-Fi when I don't have Wi-Fi and now it won't let me do it even though it shows is connecting but it still says no internet how do I do it please explain because I need help.

Most of the HP wireless printers work the same. Although I have only tried this one.

Good video, however it doesn't work without internet. I can use the printer with my smartphone as long as I have internet through mobile data on my phone. I will be in remote areas without access to mobile data and it will not work. Unless you have a workaround for that I suggest you rename your video, unless you find a workaround.
It 100% works without internet

Direct should mean you don’t need a network. Your device connects directly to the printer

WiFi direct isn’t using any internet, mobile or other. You can plug usb into some devices. Windows should work fine wired.

My printer is not printing, but it did work a few days and now it is not doing anything. This printing is not wifi, but I do have wifi. Something wrong?
Power it off by holding the power button then switch it on. If that doesn’t work I would do the same to your router

hi, Can you scan a document on the printer as a normal no wifi scanner directly to the computer using just the usb? I can't find this info anywhere and HP customer support is automated and of no help in answering. :(
I don’t use a usb cable with my printer. I would expect it to print and scan with usb.

You are using WIFI Though how do you print by using OTG & a USB cord.
Wifi direct is built into the printer. You don’t need anything else to print.

I bought this printer ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxciSwynMJ7PnUvvx11rewiu-yFBkZTl53 to replace an aging HP printer. It is just used for casual home printing so I don't need anything more. Installation went easily though the HP Smart Printing doesn't work well with our laptops - having to select the actual device. Will have to see how the HP Instant Ink program works out. Plus haven't been able to set up printing from smartphone yet - either direct or WiFi
