      Skyrim was so close to greatness. But they royally messed up the magic system after Morrowind and Oblivion. Most of the other things I thought were a decent improvement. Especially graphically. But the removal of spell creation and overselling the "craft your own armor" left me feeling disappointed in Skyrim. I thought I'd finally be able to craft what style of armor I wanted but the effectiveness would scale with my crafting skill, meaning that the armors wouldn't really be in a tier system with some being objectively better than others when it came to stats.

      @@Galiant2010Not just the magic, they could've brought back different weapons types that were removed like spears, they even dumbed down the apparel system

    The answer will always be yes. It is such a beautiful world to play in. Aside from the silly NPCs, the bright colors and soft bloom make it look better than many games released even today.
    The scaling issue is easily solved as well. Enemies do a lot of damage but slap two Shield Sigil stones on any two pieces of gear and you'll likely hit the 80% damage reduction cap. You can make magic damage a non-issue with just a single mundane ring! Never be afraid to level up and see all the new things.

      It’s interesting as some people have critiqued the “soft bloom” you describe as having not aged well, but I am 100% in agreement with you that it’s makes the world look awesome… it just nails that high fantasy, dream-like feel.

    I was 14 when this came out. I had played Morrowind on the OG Xbox before this. Being that age I had to save up for the 360, but I remember going to a family friend's who had a 360 and this game and I got to play it. Then I went to another friend's house who had an older brother who had just built a PC and and they had this game. I finally got a 360 and my uncle took me to EB Games to buy me a game for my birthday and I picked up this game. But my dad was always strict on what I could and couldn't play based on ratings. When I was younger I wasn't allowed to play Banjo Kazooie on the N64 because of the witch. Despite being a Star Wars nerd I wasn't allowed to get Bounty Hunter on the Gamecube because you played a villain and it mentioned "drugs" on the T rating. So when I showed up back home with Oblivion (after assuring my uncle it would be okay lol) my dad saw the M rating of the game for things like nudity and just about threw a fit, but I had heard about the whole issue with some files being in the game, despite not being utilized, that made it get its rating changed from T to M and my dad made me give him a presentation on why the M rating really shouldn't apply to me on the console version since you'd need to be able to mod to get access to those files. And he let me keep it. My third M rated game as a kid, after Halo and Fable lol.
    Then I finally got a PC later that same year from my parents, primarily for school work, and it was not a gaming PC. But I wanted to get the game for PC. I found an online retailer (years before Steam really took off) and bought it for my PC. Our internet was so ridiculously slow that it took around 15-20 hours to download the 4.5 GB game lol. And then when I started it up I realized how underpowered my PC was compared to the requirements for the game. I'd launch a fireball and the fireball would disappear from view almost immediately and then a 2-3 seconds later I'd see my target go up in flames for a moment. And Oblivion is what prompted me to buy my first GPU, since apparently I was using an iGPU.
    I went on to buy the game again on Steam, and the digital version for Xbox when I got my Xbox One. I've sunk 1000s of hours into Oblivion. Anyone that enjoys RPGs and doesn't mind dated graphics I still highly recommend this game. Oblivion is peak Bethesda, right alongside Fallout 3.

      Oblivion and Fall Out 3 core memories… we are cut from the same cloth my friend. Very much enjoyed your story as well (having to give a presentation on the rating is just brilliant XD)

    I was too busy with work to finish this game…then Skyrim came along…now I’ve got more time, I’m tempted - but enjoying Assassins Creed at the moment…so much choice!! Aaghhh!

    The levelling system is very unintuitive. To get the best out of each level up you've gotta level very specific skills to get you 3, +5s. You can do this coz you don't actually level until you sleep. But yeah it requires paying very close attention to what skills are going up and how much which is a bit of a chore.
    "Ok, I'm about to level up, better cast a bunch of spells before I sleep to get that +5 to intelligence."

    • @VressGames
      @VressGames  6 днів тому +1

      Yeah, they were definitely right to simplify/ streamline it for Skyrim. The average player just won’t be bothered to engage in the oblivion levelling system.

    • @TheGrimLlama
      @TheGrimLlama 6 днів тому

      @VressGames I personally enjoyed it and used the system to build a heavy armoured super-mage, but I 100% understand why they changed it. Although taking out custom spells was a major loss. Making your own spells was top tier end game content. Anyway, great video, dude.

    I think Oblivions Dark Brotherhood questline is my favorite in all fantasy RPGs. It isn't like the Skyrim DB is bad, but Oblivion made it look worse than it is.

    The game looks like a bob Ross painting other than when you are forced face to face with npcs😂 but even then are more advanced than some npcs in todays games with schedules they keep to everyday

      Not sure if you watched the hackdirt bit but it embodies exactly what you’ve just said - you are wandering through a picturesque forest, happen across this pretty little village and then suddenly come face to face with some absolute potato faced freak XD

      The painted world mission also feels reminiscent of Bob Ross esque visuals. Though the idea isn’t super similar, I’ve always wondered if that paintbrush quest was some of the inspiration for the painted world of Ariamis and the painted world of Ariandel

    Oblivion just felt like a prototype from morrowind to create skyrim. It felt like a game engine test run.

    Morrowind was the first elder scrolls I ever played but oblivion was so much better. Skyrim looked incredible but was hollow. Other than graphics, Skyrim didn't do a better job than oblivion. It was the masterpiece and Skyrim was the not so good sequel.

      You can run Skyrim on a potato honestly, if you just do base game/dlc.
      Low graphical settings plus optimization mods makes it really easy to run. I got an old Lenovo idea pad and it runs fine with like 20 mods active

      @coolkid9967 how many ram on your vga?i only have 2ram vga,and 4ram 🤔
      btw,20mods still not enough,because i planning to make youtube playtrough and i need more than 20.
      i dint know what dlc akyrim has,i only know se/ae/vanilla version. and i like se version(without creation kit)

    • @coolkid9967

      @ pretty sure mine comes stock with 4gb ram. I can still run the game comfortably with 20 mods, I could realistically install 50-100 as long as only 10-15 were serious changes like widespread graphics mods.
      If you invest in a pretty basic computer, like 600-800$, you could get good FPS while seriously modding your game I bet.

    I like the colors of the forests. Yeah a bit rough in places. But this to me is plenty of resolution. It is just rushed and old. Do something similar in writing with medium resolution graphics and people will eat it up if you don't stuff it full of that political crap. No but that apparently will not do for you people. You need big platitudes fulfilled and purple haired goblins as main characters. I don't understand why games have to be 150gb or more. To me that says they are voluntarily bloating the game and the actual people working on it, are all in their tiny little bubbles and do not actually direct the game together. Investors and publishers seem to ruin any good games before they can ever see the light of day. This Oblivion is kind of funny that this is the same result of incompetence but oh would you look at the time it's 4pm! time to go home now slop that every body makes. Compromises down to the core. Xbox 360 I remember would sap any creativity that any game could have possibly had. But let's be honest these games are marketed to truly give the impression of an honestly labored game. Or they used to. The half baked ideas and cut content are proof to me that most video games are shite. Good games Halo 3/2/reach/ce yeah elder scrolls are okay given what we get in the end, that any cool games that try things don't happen often, but at least Halo isn't there making me level up my skills to infinity like an autist in the corner spamming sneak. I exercise in real life I busy myself with lots of outside activities and want to do more of them as I get fitter and fitter. Why would I waste hundreds of hours in Oblivion. It is charming. Oblivion is the most charming. Morrowind I commend its open endness and what I consider the root of the lore, the good lore then continued over from TES3. I am saying that in the last 50 years we have busied ourselves as a collective making slop. Instead of making nice Greco-Roman style buildings we want ugly flat metal buildings because they are more efficient. Talk about becoming 'green' but all I can hear is yet more platitudes for the masses and their wanten appetite for much slop. Earth people are like this talking but they say basically nothing. It is copy cat syndrome wall to wall. Ah it's been done! Yeah with lots of missing pieces it has. But give it enough time and you do get to see how clever people are at lying in your face at all times of the day. Oh but it is my job, integrity be damned! and yours too! ha ha
