@@jerelminter honestly these characters could have been easily added to the mk genre rather than having a separate game if not my at least taken would have been a good fit. Right game, right idea just came out at the wrong time.
Man...I remember that feeling of accomplishment when the health bars went up off of the screen...you knew the stage was going to get them! Good game memories of my youth!
@Jason Jerome Watch the player's health bar's at the top of the screen at 0:36. The only time this happened is when the stage kills the losing opponent.
The first Eternal Champions fatality I saw was Trident's. I didn't know until then that the game had any so when the life bars disappeared upwards, I thought for one horrible moment that the game had broken. My brother later told me that he'd seen Larcen's and after that we made it our mission to find out what all of them were.
First one I saw when I was younger was Blades, and I thought the fatalities were just rumors. Wind talk, until saw Slash get thrown into the propeller on his stage in the background.
Wow Trident's was my first as well. I was curious about this game and tried it, accidentally picked Shadow because of hitting the button too fast, and fought Trident first. He destroyed me. And he triggered the stage fatality on my very first loss. Then the game had my full attention. I don't know what would have happened if I hadn't seen that, since I didn't own the game (I had borrowed it) I didn't like the way the game controlled, and it was very difficult.
@@Ace-wd6qx It was almost impossible to beat, I never managed it. My brother beat it once (using Slash) but that was it. Eventually we gave up and stuck to playing against each other in two player mode.

Still a great game, very underrated with some of my favorite characters anywhere! I would’ve been all over a comic or some action figures! This actually did have a very brief comic book run. They had big plans for this franchise until Sega pulled the plug on it and decided to push Virtual Fighter instead. Eternal Champions had a 7-11 store promo run and plans for a cartoon. It actually spawned a spin-off game called X-Perts on the 16-bit Genesis starring the character Shadow.
Gotta love the chick’s reaction in the ticket booth. Like “Eh. Another night in Chicago.”😂 Unless you were able to master getting the last hit in the right spot, these fatalities were such a surprise. I remember the first time I managed to pull one off I literally dropped the controller and ran in front of the screen like being two inches from the tv was gonna make it better 😆
I remember renting it when I was like 11 or 12 and was horrible at it. I’d really like to try it out again now and see how badly I am at it today lol. I still appreciate the graphics though they were very good for its time!
To be fair, everyone was awful at it because it was a really hard game. If you’d only rented it you wouldn’t even have had the time you needed in which to practice. I had it for years and never beat it and my brother only ever beat it once. We pretty much both gave up and stuck to the practice levels or playing against each other in two player mode.
If you’re into modern wall mounted arcade cabinets: Umbrella Arcades. There’s a gaming PC inside with 28,000 games for over 60 systems. It plays most of gaming history right out of the box, from Atari to Switch.
Xaviors and Shadows were the only ones I could pull off with some kind of consistency, the rest seemed to just work at random, for so long me and my friend tried to kill someone with the giant fan but no matter how many times we tried it wouldn't work.
This game is perfect. Ideas are so different than MK. It's a completely different style of fighting games and I love it since came out. This used to be my chill out after MK2 hours and nights. Then I've got more into it. This deserves MK9 style remake. Keep all the same just make it today's quality. Streets of Rage 4 style. This game would kill the charts.
I played that game for years but when I did 1:51 for the first time I never did it before I felt so strange inside me and my friend just looked at each other like that that really happened
My fighter of choice on the Genesis, and still is today. It's been a long time since I played Eternal Champions, though my preference is the Sega CD version. Well played Shadow.

IMO the best MK "rip-off" (plenty of points for originality). Would love to see this series come back. I love MK, but if you enjoy blood with your fighting games it's the only game in town anymore.
Loved this game. It got overshadowed by Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter games, but imo it was on the same level as those two.
Maybe not on the same level as Street Fighter but it had a lot more complexity than Mortal Kombat, for sure.
Mortal Kombat was already out, this is why this game was made. It was an MK knockoff. 😂

Except that the gameplay is pretty awful. Cool game though. Especially, the Sega CD version.
About that.... 👀
If I recall It was pretty tough to get a stage fatality
It was, indeed
I still don’t know how to do it.
U just have to know where to land the finishing hit in the stage
