So blown away by Derek's heart to genuinely want to lovingly coach others.
That is one of the reasons he won the mirrorball 6 times. He is an encourager, which is the number one thing I love about him.
The freestyle with Kelly brought the tears. I recently lost all my hearing overnight and this performance proves that you can listen and see with your heart. Beautiful job Derek, Kelly has such beautiful lines and pure raw truth when she moves.

SHAWN & DEREK’S QUICKSTEP IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE DANCES OF ALL TIME & IT BOTHERS ME TO THIS DAY THAT THEY NEVER ONCE GOT A PERFECT SCORE ON THAT DANCE
I totally agree. The week before that dance the judges had laid down a challenge to all the pros for the following week. The challenge was to do something or somethings in their dance routines that had never been done before and they did just what they were told to do. The jumped on the trampolines, they fell into the orchestra pit, and they broke hold in the quickstep. Should have been 10's all around.

@@shawnalocke8486 He did not break the rules. The week before the judges challenge to the pros for the next weeks dances was to do something or somethings that had never been done before. Breaking hold in the quickstep qualifies as something that had never been done before. There were enough quickstep elements in their quickstep that it was obvious it was a quickstep.
At least it got an emmy and that truly matters!
Amber’s performance is the reason why I started watching DWTS!

Aw! I was in the audience at the very tippy top for your finale with Kelli Pickler. I yelled your name down during the commercial break just before you were announced as winners. I actually got your attention and you looked up to me. I screamed "Go for 4!" (cuz, you know, it was your 4th win), and you tapped your heart and put your hands together saying thank you. It made. my. year. Such a fantastic time! xx

I always thought it was your freestyle with Amber that introduced you to body percussion and stepping. She really was an amazing performer.
The finally with Amber was the BEST one. Hooray for the big girls! Amber is my girl, talent all around. Derek miss you dancing on the show. To me you were the best dancer/choreographer..You and Haley are beautiful together.
So many 'haters' talked shit about how Derek was going to finally lose, that there was no way he would get to like the final 5 let alone win the entire season simply because of her size. I saw their win as a giant FU to all them ignorant people.

The Kelly P. finale was a game changer, memorable. Bravo! In my opinion is one of the best routines in DWTS’ history.

I came to the comments first to see if they were going to cover Bindi's dance. I have always watched off and on during the seasons. When Bindi was his partner, I watched every show. For me it was such a healing moment and transition that she went through.
Derek is an awesome coach, you can see and feeling his love for dancing and wanting to help the couples do better by giving great feedback.

The dance with Bindi Irwin, and Mark Ballas was pure genius. She is the sweetest human.
The fusion you choreographed for Shawn Johnson, and Mark had to step in for you, was another monumental moment.

I LOVED this episode! It's always fun to watch your reactions to your own performances and this one featured my all-time favorite DWTS routine, Derek & Kellie's freestyle. Nothing will ever touch the genius of Derek's choreography and Kellie's artistry. Absolutely breathtaking.

Derek, it was so cool looking back at those amazing performances. You definitely set the bar high for freestyles. The Kellie Pickler routine was so good. Watching that at home, I remember the expressions on the audiences faces after that routine. They were ALL in shock!! I was as well-lol. Nice to hear you talk about it as I always wondered how you felt after that number because it was groundbreaking for DWTS. Your ideas and creativity are what ignited the show and took it to another level. Eventually being the 1st pro to win a Choreography Emmy for DWTS... Way to go Derek!! You should be soooo proud! Hayley's kinda beaming too, nice..

Wow those were awesome! Due to my work schedule I was unable to watch the show so when you go back to your favorite dances it's a real treat for me.
I love that, even with limited time to turn out routines, Derek doesn't pooh-pooh his pupil's contributions but rather embraces and incorporates them and uses them to expand himself.🖒

Your time on DWTS as a pro was such an incredible showcase of your talent because you proved you could win by teaching and mentoring a partner of any age, size, or background/experience. Well done. I miss your level of dedication and creativity on the show but I’ve also really enjoyed seeing you as a judge giving real critiques and in such a positive, passionate manner because you really want to help these people succeed and not put them down or discourage them. Musicality is literally my favorite part! Derek your musicality is amazing! I love when the band director chooses music with drum solos, especially when the arrangement has swing styles. I’ve had to choose music before, I couldn’t imagine doing that every week!
That quickstep with Shawn is also where the falling back onto the crash mats at the top of the stage was invented.
