You are a "SCIENTIST" Marty %100 because you know the methodology by way of test and prove, then retest and prove all whilst taking notes mindfully exactly what does and doesnt work via a system of practice which is repeatable in your shared knowledge. No phD. means anything whatsoever at all unless those whom recieve them have a very broad scope outside to be able to garner and refine finite in detail, that which you are doing and do in practice. Hats off you are a scientist😁🎩
Never knew that about Byron Bay sand! There is a notable difference in my bed areas that where built a year later than others. The growth rate is noticeable. I don’t use a lot of soluble feed either so it really has proven to be the microbial fortitude at work. Grow soil and your plants will follow.
G'day Marty, the garden looks like it loved the water it's jumping out of the ground. Great video again as always,100 % success 👍👍. On the subject of chickens, yesterday and today nine chicks have hatched fingers crossed for the other seven 🤞they might just be late starters.
Don't disturb the sandy soil. Start by adding layers of mulch to the top..Think of it like a Lasagna one sheet of mulch then compost and keep making layers over time. Bales are the best for this if you can get them cheap enough.
Ah Sandy soils here inCoastalWA the soils are so hungry one dare not go out barefooted:) The answer we have tested used and are happy with is first get the soil to retain moisture and nutrients Thus DIG IN Kaolin Clay wet and mix wellthen lots of organic matter dig over again. Then as Marty rightly states go with the lasagna method and semi no or minimal dig It took us 3 years to really start tosee real loam rather tan sand andwe can not hurry too much .
I let a lot of weeds grow. Grasses and really aggressive ones get pulled, but things like chickweed, nettles, purslane in Summer. I let them grow and only pull them back if they are taking over. That way the soil is covered in living plants and the microbes have lots to keep them busy. My garden was all dead compacted clay but after 2 years, over half of the inground beds grow food now. Just with added compost and using weeds as a green manure. If I could make more compost the whole garden would be good. Cheers!
I told my neighbor to just let the weeds grow in her dad's front/side yard. Just mow if needed. She thought we would be upset by their weeds she said. The whole neighborhood has lush green grass lawns. They use weed killer and do what grass seed companies recommend. The birds, bees, dragonflies and beneficial insects avoid those lawns like the plague. I do pick dandelion flowers before they go to seed on her dad's lawn near my grass lawn and pick the dandelion flowers on mine too. I have no idea how many hundreds of $$$ she spent trying to fix her dad's weedy yard.
Marty. We don't put down weed killer in our yards. Weeds grow. Birds, beneficial insects love our yards and our small backyard garden. When hubby mows the grass lawns he just lets grass clippings drop. It fertilizes the lawns.
I dont mind harvesting weeds on our property to make Weed tea, weed fertilisers. Dried leaves perfect mulch. Also bio char has helped so much in improving the soil on our property.
Love your videos Marty, keep 'em coming! I have a BIG problem I stupidly put a Jade plant in my garden as a windbreak (dividing strip with next door) and I hate it. It keeps growing and growing (success I suppose) it's becoming more than a weed now. How do I get rid of it without hacking it down - we're both getting a bit old to do too much physical work and each hacked piece is so heavy!!! Love to you and yours Xx
Nice shirt, moved onto our acre 5 years ago now and before moving potted up most of my old garden and took it with us. Most of it has survived here on the coast of Wonthaggi but the heavy winds and 8 months of constant rain make growing a garden a big challenge. I'm learning and the garden's doing better with each year.🍎🧅🥕🌽🥒🌶🥔🍅🐝🌸🐞

Wow, congrats on the new chooks Aaron, hopefully more
Marty, and suggestions for sandy coastal soils - and hydrophilic soil. Thx

Keep doing that and it will improve every year!
So true, some of those lawns have no life

Nice, your on the right track!

It all adds up to healthy soil!
Ah yes, memories, for lunch, a pie and a bit of weed😂
Memories!

Ring bark the base may work
Would bleach be easier than Ring Bark? You'd have to check to be sure you don't pollute near by plants and waterways.
@@martysgarden Thank you so much we'll get on to it tout de suite!

Yes, we just keep moving forward, soils and habitat is the key
