To understand how scoliosis bracing works, we first need to understand scoliosis. A spine with a Cobb Angle of 10 degrees or greater with rotation is considered scoliosis.
The majority of scoliosis cases are idiopathic, which means the cause is unknown. However, we know that scoliosis is highly treatable, though it can not be cured.
Scoliosis tends to worsen over time, more so when left untreated. During the growth stages of adolescence is when the curve grows the most and the fastest.
Scoliosis also progresses in the adult stages, but it grows slower. However, it can grow more rapidly as the curves get bigger and the patient is older.
From the age of 50 to 60 years if age is when scoliosis will start to increase its progression and will continue more rapidly in the later stages of life.
There are two main approaches to treating scoliosis:
    Traditional Treatment
    Conservative Treatment
Both have different angles and potential outcomes. The traditional approach leads toward a surgical outcome, and the conservative approach leads to a non-surgical outcome.
Each approach also uses bracing. On the traditional approach, the Boston brace is the most common option, and it is designed to work in a very specific way. The Boston brace has been mostly the same for a long time and was designed to make bracing easier into a corrective position. These braces are also mass-produced and designed to create a small squeezing relief.
The number one goal of the Boston brace was to slow down the curve and stop its progression. But it could lead to atrophy in muscles due to the squeezing effect. It also made the brace more difficult to wear over time.
In the conservative approach, a more modern brace is used, called ScoliBrace or a corrective brace. This brace is more functional because it aims to improve spinal curvatures. The ScoliBrace or corrective brace has no blueprint, and it is not mass-produced. It is done one by one, designed individually for each patient's body.
The ScoliBrace doesn't squeeze; it pushes the spine into a corrective position which allows patients to become stronger rather than weaken their spine. With this brace, patients are also given a rehabilitation program to help the brace be more effective.
The angle of the ScoliBrace is meant to reduce the curve at a structural level. It changes the geometry of the curve, so patients have a smaller curve than when they start wearing it.
The ScoliBrace helps with posture and with symmetry, and since it is customized to the patient, it is also more comfortable to wear.
Corrective bracing addresses the spine tridimensionally and becomes easier to wear as the spine becomes better, and patients are more motivated and compliant with their brace due to this.
At the Scoliosis Reduction Center we favor the ScoliBrace. In the past, we have used the Boston brace and didn't obtain positive results. That is why corrective bracing is better for our patient's progress. Patients using a bad brace for a long time will see negative results and could stop the results of other things a patient is doing that are working well.
The ScoliBrace has a more functional approach, and patients can see a reduction in their scoliosis from their bracing. But the more limited approach to bracing, which is the traditional, with the Boston brace reacts more to a curve worsening, which eventually will end up in needing rods and spinal fusion surgery.

This is another video I must watch again. The more of your videos I see , the more convinced I am that I must make a concerted effort to get to your clinic. I have made several comments to your videos ,but the more I see of your videos the more I believe I must go there. There is one clinic in the nearby city, which is the Schroth Method. I do not feel as safe with what I see on their videos as I do when I watch yours. As I have said in previous comments ,I am 91+ years of age and in good health , I would need to travel by train ,which would be a long ride ,but I must get all the information I can soon ,as you say the sooner the better. LK from Canada. 🇨🇦 Thanks for your advice and videos. ❤❤😊😊

Hi Dr. I just watched your video and I'm so happy to say that I completely agree with you. My daughter is 11 years old and she was given a Boston brace a month ago and it is like pulling teeth to get her to continuously wear it, because it is so uncomfortable for her. It labors her breathing and pushes up against her stomach something horrible. I've tried to get the Dr. to havr it adjusted but that to was like pulling teeth as well. I'm very concerned about my daughter's health and would like to seek other assistance with our situation. I'm aware that your location is in Florida and we're located in Las Vegas Nevada but by all means please send the information to your clinic. Thank you so much

With the squeezing of the brace I'm afraid that in my case (my scoliosis progressed within the last five years of my life , I'm 65 now) I notice that the shifting of my scoliosis it pushes my ribs around into my chest. my curve is in the upper middle back directly in front of my sternum. would a brace help me, I'm afraid this is affecting my life, it causes my heart to skip and my breathing is affected.
