Bought on of these and this video educated me, especially in relation to the EX-DOS usage.

I propose that the next time you have the group livestream that you all get out your ZX Spectrums and have a contest to see who can type a BASIC program in the fastest. 🤪

Original power supply is just a simple unregulated one. Just a transformer, 4 diodes for rectification and a smoothing capacitor. That is exactly what the Spectrum likes to work with. Modern switch mode ones will have noise, some less, some more, best to stay away from them. Also I think the DC-DC circuitry (12V and -5V generation) works better with an input voltage slightly above 9V, in the 10V range. These days it is not easy to get a center negative one, better to get a center positive one and just modify it yourself. There are more choices and better quality ones when you get center positive.

very cool, getting back into coding have setup my classic zx spectrum 48k, interface 1 and microdrives are working great, but wanted a better way to ensure development was saved without corruption, the divmmc really will help and am looking forward to trying it out.

Nice , I think your using the bugged version of starwars as I'm certain there is a version with sound out there, it looks like the divmmc is a decent device for a speccy

Thanks, Lee. I'll look for another copy of Star Wars. I did have it muted so I could talk, but I think when I played it without mute it didn't have any music or sound effects after the initial splash screen.

@YARC-1981 I had a similar problem with the atari 2600 and the smps psu..... I'm thinking a 1st order LC filter could solve that

@@CaptainCommodore Possibly. I'm not good enough with analog electronics or power supplies to know or to design one myself. I'll have to leave it to those who actually know what they're doing (hint ... hint ....)

"great" screen usage: only ⅛ of useful stuff is displayed

Could you be more specific? It's been a long time since I made that video and I don't remember it enough to know what you're referencing. Sorry.

@@YARC-1981 more specific? 80% of screen share is useless with most area being black, the output if ZX screen is tiny and this is what should have been displayed not you poking the keyboard
