  • Part 1 in our visit to Robin Blatchford, England. This video discusses Robin's decision to convert to dairy, his cow type, and his cubicle shed. We were delighted to be part of his project, working on the farmyard design and soucing livestock.

Robin has been and still is a very good customer on the arable side of the farm! He is a very knowledgeable man and inventor of his own grain drying systems I wish him well in his next venture

There are many established dairy farmers that could do with listening to Robin, keeping it simple as possible and avoiding being the glamorous yield chasers that don't pay their bills!!

You need more cows to increase your business profit. ACRs and Backing gate back of yard. Would speed the job up no end. Milking with two would be a second option. Then you would need 2 R milkers to cover time off. So my first option is one payment and gets you gets you up to speed. As you are your not making a lot profit. Milk price dropped since January.

I would avoid breeding Holstein and Jersey . In my experience we done that big mistake.. Holsteins are to big and Man made cows don't hold condition on grazing systems. Jersey to small no Barren cow price. I would go S Reds. Ayrshire. . Good udders last well. Or Pure F . Jersey small get milk fever and don't yield well. Barren price poor . Pius are likely to get Johnes. Need more cows to make maximum profit.
