In your kitchen you talking Ventilation fan ( cooker Hood/ Chimney) it's does not seems to be contacted with exhausted pipe it seems to be fitted in Recirculation mode. If its primum one then charcoal filter need to wash it if normal than charcoal filter need to be changed every 2-3 month.
Besides regular clean of Mesh filter.
