Levi, I don't know how I went so long without knowing you were a geography major, but as a recent grad with the same degree, I was brought to tears thinking about all you've accomplished with this channel. I've personally felt so discouraged by the complete disinterest my peers and fellow citizens have in the relationships between man and our land, and you've genuinely inspired me today, in that we may find new ways to educate in this field :')
Other recommendations I've loved: Untamed by Glennon Doyle, Think Again by Adam Grant, An Astronaut's Guide to Life on Earth by Chris Hadfield (A Canadian astronaut!)
Be a good neighbour… learn more about one’s body parts… go surfing 😂 I like the themes of your book choices. More book vids please. Thanks for this one, I love hearing my fave UA-camrs talk about what they read 📚
Another Canadian author who is phenomenal at presenting and digging into really heavy topics through storytelling is Richard Wagamese. Indian Horse is a great first one of his to read and im currently reading Ragged Company.
Added all of these to my library list, thank you!! One that may not be as elegantly written but has made me think differently about how we use resources in our home is "Building a Better World in Your Backyard Instead of Being Angry at Bad Guys" by Paul Wheaton.
Reading is definitely underrated, it helps not only in knowledge but growing vocabulary. I’ve been grinding through economic books in preparation for college because of the benefits of not only the knowledge but in reading in general.
Today I finished reading This is Where You Belong because of this video. Literally while watching the video I checking this ebook out from my library. I absolutely loved it and now I am going to embark on my own Love Where You Live adventure in my city to see what new things I can discover. Thanks for the recommendation!
There's so much we should have learned in school... important health stuff, and important (and horrific) Canadian history!! My kids are learning so much more than I ever did, and we're able to talk more openly about things at home too, compared to when I was growing up. Hope for the future. ;)
I think books are such an important part of our education in general. I can imagine how people end up never reading but it just seems like it would be sad lol
@@LeahandLevi True, and sometimes all it takes is a recommendation from someone excited about a book to get people into reading... except my kids - my excitement only seems to deter them from reading anything their boring mom is excited about! :)
@@megan2176 hey, Megan, i don't know if it would help, but the way I got my teenage brother into reading was by telling him that the book I was reading was 'definitely not for him'. I refused to tell him what it was about, just kept repeating that he is too young and left it at that. Surprise surprise, of course he picked up the book (The Catcher in the Rye) and been reading ever since :)
As a francophone, I find it fascinating to see how Americans with french names like Yvon Chouinard start to pronounce their name over time and how it has nothing to do with how it was pronounced originally! It makes me think of Shia LaBeouf (which is clearly derived from French name Leboeuf aka "the beef") To be clear, I'm not saying you said it wrong because everyone seems to say his name that way in interviews! It's just very interesting to me! (Also great book recommandations!!! I already read The vagina bible and may add a few other of your suggestions to my list!)
Great video, really like your book list as it acts as a reset to spur more mindfulness rather than just plodding through each day. Would recommend Jonathan Livingston Seagull by Jonathan Bach as a way of appreciating our need to be different.
My personal favorite thing about Patagonia as a company is who much they work with non-profits. They are partners with Sierra Club. And they are even letting a team of students I work with collect signatures for a clean energy petition at their store in SLC!
The Genius of Women by Janice Kaplan unearths some erased history involving women and explores how some women have managed to be successful against systems opposing them
Come as You Are was a game changer for me! So informative and eye opening! I haven’t finished watching the video yet, but the vagina bible sounds super interesting as well!
Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer. I'm buying this for friends and family. Brilliant book. I get to the end of it on audiobook and just start again. I also have a hard copy. X
I love book recommendations!! This was a welcomed video. I added a few of these to my list :) Some I like that are in the same vein are Educated by Tara Westover and A Walk In The Woods by Bill Bryson. Also the Alchemist by Paulo Coelho! All good take-aways :)
Come as you are is AMAZING!!! I felt validated after reading it. Daring Greatly by Brene Brown is another amazing book. It answered a lot of questions I didn't know I had and also left me feeling validated. I've been recommending it to some of my male friends (with traumatic pasts), and they were glad they read it. It's been great seeing them grow as they've been rediscovering who they are as individuals and being more open about their struggles and feelings.
I JUST downloaded this book app to keep track of all my books so I don't rebuy any of the same ones then refreshed my subscriptions to see this! More books to add to my 200+ wishlist :)
