We've just arrived in Rakiura Stewart Island - New Zealand's forgotten third island, where kiwi birds outnumber humans 44 to 1. This episode documents our final few weeks in New Zealand, as we search for wild kiwis on Stewart Island, do two incredible day hikes in Aoraki Mount Cook National Park - Hooker Valley Track and Mueller Hut - and return to the North Island to complete the 'world's best day hike' - the Tongariro Alpine Crossing.

I’ve loved watching your New Zealand videos. We’re planning a trip to NZ in November 2024 or February 2025 and we’ve targeted most of the hikes you’ve covered. Like you, we plan to start on the North Island and move down to the South. What months were you there and which month would you recommend? As we saw in your videos, some of the hikes would be disappointing if the view was obscured at the top/end due to clouds and rain. We live in BC, Canada and love to camp and hike. We’re debating renting a van or doing Air BnB. Your videos are tipping me towards the caravan option.
We were there from November - January. I think both months would be good, but November might be safer as it’s the beginning of NZ’s summer. A storm hit when we were there in late January, but don’t know how usual that is… hope you have an amazing time!
What time of year were you doing these hikes?
You're the first Tourists I have seen that has set foot on Stewart Island, nice on dude,I hope you indulged in the Blue Cod and chips while you were there.
