  • There are many reviews of this Andonstar AD409 microscope on UA-cam, but none really delves into the actual photo and video capture performance. Hence, I made one....

I noticed on my AD409 (got for free to review) that the video quality was WAY better than the photo image quality, I found that a bit odd, it is better for me to freeze frame a video to grab a shot then to take a picture.

Hi Defpom, thanks for the reply. I considered make stills of video, as it seems only way to get the actual pixels out. What kept me of doing so (yet) is the great amount of noise in video mode. I expect that (inherently) shorter shutter times in that mode result in the need to push up ISO a lot, with significant
noise as a consequence. This may also explain why we have no selectable ISO in video mode… but for now that is a speculation. I figured out a way to test it but had no time yet. Cheers, Rudi

My take on UA-cam reviews is that if they were given the product for free to do a review I should expect to believe 25% or less of what I hear from most reviewers. The difference between a review from someone who got it for free and one done by someone who purchased it is usually night and day. In my world (two way radios) the majority of people doing reviews on amateur radio products neither have the proper instruments to test a radios performance and compliance to standards or the technical background in the field to do a proper review. Interestingly Jim W6LG just did a video yesterday about this problem on UA-cam. ua-cam.com/video/ZVo5PtyvNYU/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared .
As for your review, well done. A review that clearly shows a products limitations and the manufacturers inflated spec's.
