I was actually considering this, but a monthly subscription... really? I just want some basic stats. Those should come with purchasing these things. Too bad
I agree. I just received my set of Amp handles today. I can't even pair the Bluetooth to the app until I subscribe in the Apple store. Since I don't maintain credit cards in their store I will need to run out and buy $75 in gift cards. The app is discounted to $69 / year currently. It will be $99 / year after that. Considering the price of the handles they could give an unlock code for at least a 2 week trial as a Welcome gift.
I’m 69 years old and, having dabbled with a cheap jump rope last year, and then found JRD, I bought the ‘Get Lean’ set from Crossrope last September (along with subscribing to their App), followed by the ‘Get Strong’ set in November. And, weather permitting, I’ve been doing a 30-minute session, 6 days a week, pretty much from the start - and I absolutely love it. Earlier this year, I got the 1½ lb heavy performance rope (as I was finding the 2 lb rope really tough going) and, as soon as they were available in the UK, I bought the AMP handles, which I’ve now been using for a couple of months. So, here are my thoughts on the AMP handles: Firstly, I would still be doing 30-minute sessions 6 days a week, with or without the AMP handles so, from that perspective, they’re certainly not essential to getting huge value out of jumping rope. However, while all the ’historical’ metrics are interesting, what I absolutely love about AMP, is that the workouts in the App become customised to your level of fitness. So, say you’re doing a 30 second Boxer Step as part of a workout, the App will set a target for the number of jumps with the weight of rope you’re using and shows you, in real-time, how you’re performing against the target, as you go through the 30 second period. It’s like have a personal trainer standing beside you, motivating you to beat the target. And, if you beat the targets in the workout, the App will ask if you would like to ‘up’ the targets for next time. So, it’s always pushing you to increase your performance / intensity, depending on your current ability and fitness. Also, the ‘Benchmark’ section allows you to take a regular ‘snapshot’ of your performance, enabling you to see how you’re progressing. For example, maybe a month ago, I was able to do 67 jumps in 30 seconds using the 2 lb rope and today, I’ve been able to do 78. That’s motivating. So, for me, the AMP handles really add to the whole jump rope experience, and certainly make the workouts and programs in the App more compelling. And I'm sure they will have a positive impact on my fitness over time, as they continue to push me to new levels of intensity. As for the cost, that's a personal thing but, for me, the handles and App subscription are money well spent. Finally, to confirm, I have no affiliation to Crossrope; I’m just an old boy in the UK who loves jumping rope and loves the Crossrope products I currently own.
You've hit on hear what a lot of people aren't getting. It's not about the counting. It's the effectiveness of the targets and workout interface that really is the difference-maker in getting results. Appreciate you sharing!
@@davehunt540 Thanks, Dave. Obviously, the App has a fantastic selection of workouts and programs (kudos to Jennika and Chad) but I was thinking earlier how good it would be to be able to create your own workouts, in a separate section. You've already got the library of jump steps, so it would be 'just' a case of the user selecting the step, the duration and the following rest period, and so on, until they have the workout as desired. Then name it, save it, and it's ready to use. Anyway, just a thought.

I've been doing 8 '1:30' sessions for a few months now. I started counting skips just because I was curious how many I was getting in my session. I found that counting the skips made the workout easier to complete and highly motivating to now get more skips in the same time
Great info. Thanks for the review. This needs a subscription to use the app for these smart handles. If they were able to have some basic info recording without having to pay every month, then I would be interested. They make great products, but that subscription killed it for me.
The Crossrope people are incredibly greedy so they would never think of dropping their unreasonable exploitative fee that will gatekeep people on tighter budgets from ever getting it. You are supporting an anti-consumer greedy business practice to get something like this which is totally useless without paying them $10 a month in perpetuity. Other health tracking devices have free app access because that's the reasonable thing to do when the device cost is already high. For example heart rate monitors do it this way - you pay for the device and the app to get any functionality out of the thing at all is free. But you like supporting anti-consumer practices like this I guess for the sake of encouraging other companies to gatekeep people with ridiculous fees.
Next thing you know the Crossrope Amp will charge you per-minute of use. It's only a little more ridiculous than paying a fee to begin with just to get ANY functionality from the device at all (which is the point of getting it other than a regular crossrope or any other jump rope).
FYI - the bluetooth features do NOT work if you do not have the us$60/year subscription. Thank goodness my Concept2 rower doesn't require a subscription for the output. I think it is a mistake not to allow the bluetooth features without subscription. Price of the crossropes justify this.
I really want to buy this, BUT, I think the subscription model should be an add-on i.e. I wish that they had a freemium offering - maybe just the data, without the lessons (Dave?). That way they would remove my friction from buying the handles. Once I have them and play a bit, the consistency-bias will make me want to go deeper. That it has no basic functionality without a sub seems like a missed trick to me.
This looks interesting, but for now, I'll stick to tracking my time spent on the jump rope. Like increasing my work time from 20 secs to 25 secs or increase total work time from 10 mins to 15 mins. Don't plan on getting it, but I'm planning on getting the Get Fit Set because I like changing up the ropes. Thanks for the review, Dan. Keep it up :)
@@JumpRopeDudes Yeah, I agree. Some like to have more options. I guess I'm just not their target market haha. Anyway, thanks again for the product review, Dan 👍

Cost of the handles should cover the electronics along with a basic count metric (without double unders, which would require subscription). I use my Apple Watch for that and they have a jump rope exercise as an option. Wish Crossrope would offer more rope choices (colors). I would buy several just to switch things up.

Jumped 200,000 age 66 two years ago in 51 weeks, needed to do 4,600 each the last two days to reach my 200k goal, which took about one hour and 45 minutes each day, or 23x200. Could only jump three days a week as I traveled and could not jump on the road. Counted each jump up to 20 and started over. Paused at 200 for drink of water. Since this is Minnesota and have winter, I would be jumping while neighbor would be snowblowing his driveway. Jumped to about 0 degrees F. Have the 1/4 pound cross rope and probably won't do the app. May change my mind will see. Jumped all on cement but have now bought a mat. Would need to average 2,700 a day to do a million in a year. Doubt I would do that, but that would be about an hour. Not impossible.

Hi Dan, I saw the part where you have talked about the double unders and the calculation, is that working now? I have been trying but not sure I have an accurate count!
You mentioned this system works on an iPad. Hooray! However my iPad doesn’t have cellular. I can’t be sure of a secure Wi-Fi access everywhere I want to jump. Will the app work without an internet connection? Thank you.
@@JumpRopeDudes Here’s the super-quick response from CrossRope: “The Crossrope app workouts and features can be accessed without an internet connection. All you should have to do is open the app with the internet at some point before going to the no Wi-Fi zone.” I haven’t tested this yet, but I’ll let you know if it works (slightly skeptical.) 🤨
My cross rope is driving me crazy!! I bought the correct size and everything and no matter what I do, the rope always hits my feet???? I used a $20 rope (same size of the cross rope) and I can skip no problem with it. So bloody frustrating
@@JumpRopeDudes thanks for replying. I bought the 9 foot (large) cross rope (I’m 5 feet 11”). I’ve tried all the “techniques” (hands to the side- waist height, elbows in, rotating with the wrist, feet 6” apart and few inches off the ground, etc) AND every time I swing the rope, I can get a few jumps in and then the rope hits my feet? The cheap rope is the same length (I put 2 knots) near the handles and I can skip a bit longer with it. I really like the cross rope BUT no matter what I try, it always hits my feet????? I’ve spent a lot money for your rope and every time I use it, I get discouraged from wanting to jump rope. What’s makes matter worse is I can do the different styles of footwork but can’t enjoy it or get a rhythm cause the rope always hits my feet
You could opt for Peloton. Peloton charges ~$2000 for a bike and charges ~$49 a month for the full subscription, ~$12.99 a month for the cheaper basic option . A Crossrope AMP system is 1/10th the cost of Peloton to start and 1/5th the price of their full monthly subscription.
@@tinalewis6782 Silly answer. You could buy tickets to Disneyland too. Not the same. Rowers give all of the output for cost of the rower. It is possible to buy add-on software for teamwork or racing. Maybe our cars might need a subscription now too with this thinking.
Looks super cool but like others i think the “free jump” feature should be free and if you want access to the workouts then charge $9.99 a month for that
Smh that subscription thing is just nuts.. I can't support a company that plays games like these... either lower the price or make a deal with us that we can use the app if we purchasing a jump rope that's over $200 bucks... Update me when they change this and I will buy...
Hi. I have just purchased my new 2 and 3 lbs. Crossrope Jump ropes last month with the performance handles. One handle is making a clicking sound while I'm skipping with the ropes. I tried lubricating the handle bearings where I assume the bearings are right at the end where the metal part is and the loops with a spray industrial all purpose equipment lubricant but it's still clicking while I'm using it. Is there a way to fix this?? Thanks. Great video!!
Hey! Sorry you're having issues. I can't help you directly but Crossrope has amazing customer service and I recommend you contact them and see what they recommend. Here's their contact page → www.crossrope.com/pages/contact-support/ Hope this helps
@@Ridahboy380 It's been discussed, but studio cycling classes are pretty established. Jump rope classes aren't as much of a thing yet ... definitely working towards what's possible.
It's not for everyone and that's okay. Some people love knowing how many skips they had, steps they took, or how many hours they spent in REM sleep. We really like the power measure here, but if you prefer to not track the data, this isn't for you... Either way, let's go DTT! 💪💪
i always count to 120 skips thats exactly 1 min for me. to increase intensity i just fumble in some tricks. did this for 7 months 15 sets in 30 min around. lost 22kg.
I first started jumping rope with the 1 and 2 lb ropes from Crossrope last December. The power output explained by Dan in the video is for real. Before I consistently started jumping rope, primarily the 1 lb rope, I had a hard time doing muscle ups. Now I can do 4 to 5 and still have some juice left over for additional pull ups. I honestly only do weighted pull ups once or twice every 2 to 3 weeks and lateral pull downs a couple times a week for actual back exercises. The only other back exercise I get is using the 1 and 2 lb ropes which I really feel make the difference.
I did some research to find out how lib or conservative the owner was. He served in our navy and generally seems to be a pretty normal guy. Much better than the owner of Peloton who I’ll never buy from
The Handles are the weakest product from crossrope (beside the ropeless). They are pretty slow, bad handling feeling for me, not strong enough for the ultra heavys. Software realisation is completely shitty. Really disappointed.
I can’t fault CR for having a paid subscription for these. Apps have come a long way from the one and done apps of a decade ago. Ongoing support, updates and new content/features… that all costs money. Would it be nice if the app was free? Absolutely. But if the shoe were on the other foot, no one here would be doing that with their product either. And as Dan points out, it’s not an astronomical amount either compared to other fitness apps.
Thank you!! You get it! At the end of the day, people don't have to pay to jump rope, but a lot of people love the app experience, getting workout stats, and having a community!! Keep doing the thing!!
@@JumpRopeDudes Thank you for the reply. This is what I really needed to hear. I have the crossropes and love them. I recently got the AMP handles and love them, too. I'm sure you get thousands of questions.
If not for the subsription, I will definitely buy it. I just want some basic stats nothing much. Why would I pay 120$ per year to use a 200$ jump rope? Feels very greedy
It's so much more than basic stats with the monthly membership, but I understand that it's not for everyone. Keep skipping rope with whatever you choose and do the thing!
@@JumpRopeDudes Thats my point, i understand the app has much more to offer than basic stats. However, for people like me who only do free style jumping, its not much use. I am only interested in knowing the counts.
I was gifted the Bluetooth AMP handles after purchasing the classic weighted ones 6 months ago. I was super disappointed when I found out that in order to even use the AMP handles, you must purchase a $12/mnth subscription. I found that incredibly greedy given that I’d already purchased $100+ classic ropes and my partner purchased these $100+ Bluetooth handles. When all is said and done, this would be a $280 purchase year one + an additional $80/yr subscription annually…hundreds of dollars over the life of the ropes. I would think that we’d at least be able to free jump and simply count on the app without buying a subscription. This isn’t made clear enough at the time of purchase but is written is small text on the side I the box…Make it EXPLICITLY clear that these handles WILL NOT WORK with a paid subscription. 🤢
I hear your frustration. While I love my people at Crossrope, I can't really speak for them on this and my advice would be to contact their customer service. All of their products have a money back guarantee, etc. but I don't know the specifics of your situation. But if you're at all unsatisfied I recommend you reach out. Hope this helps!
I was going to buy them but a a subscription just to pair the handles is discusting, especially considering the cost of the handles. All of there products are really expensive i have brought both sets and my smaller handles have rusted on one side.

Would be amazing if it were only a single fee to unlock AT LEAST the Bluetooth connectivity and maybe the subscription for those who want more. But again, just another money grab by the subscription model. I can’t imagine spending HUNDREDS just to jump rope. Thanks but no thanks.
Too biased for this review to mean anything. Jump rope metrics is really useless especially if you are charging for it. Duration and intensity is the only thing that matters.
@@JumpRopeDudes Honestly, why do you need to measure anything? Ive seen Floyd jump with 10 dollar ropes and he is one of the best to do it. As long as you get a good hard workout in based upon YOUR standards you will be fine. Fancy metrics just complicate something that’s elementary in nature.
Why would I subscribe to the Cross Rope app if I am considering subscribing to the JRD app? I can appreciate the AMP, the data, stats, streaks etc but I think this potentially pulls $$ away from you Dan. I’d rather subscribe to the JRD app.

Where does the charger connect?
Is this no late for 30yr old to start a jumping rope workout?
Not if a 46 year old can start and be successful.
nope! Let's gooooo!
I like and have been happy with the AMP system.
nice!
Connect it to Garmin and I'm in...
Does this system connect to garmin app/watch???
Yup it links to the crossrope app on your phone!
Dan when will a JRD AMP handles come out? It's the only AMP handles I'm interested in. 👍
So sick! I never think about tracking progress like I should.
You're gonna love it! If you haven't already, you get find the AMP here www.crossrope.com/jrd
Make sure to use our code DOTHETHING to get a discount!!
That JRD sweatshirt looks so dope! Where can I get one?
ahhhh you like that ?!?! it's a prototype :) Stay tuned!
Can you please give a review on the ropes that comes with the new amp handles? Thank you..
been waiting for this video! what took you so long 😉?
why is amp membership required to pair with iPhone?
that's correct.
Yo, that polo-esque crewneck is nice! I'll stick with my regular CR set with an Apple Watch.
My cross rope is driving me crazy!! I bought the correct size and everything and no matter what I do, the rope always hits my feet????
I used a $20 rope (same size of the cross rope) and I can skip no problem with it. So bloody frustrating
It's unlikely the ropes fault (unless it's way to short or something).
Have you laid out your CR next to your other rope? They are same length?
Subscription after you pay 200 dollars for the product? Seems totally insane to me
It's not for everyone. Some people pay 10x this for a gym membership every month 🤷♂️
This is Dope 🔥
Yo i didnt know there was a subscription. Whats the return policy?
60 day money back guarantee, check out the crossrope website for more info
Looks super cool but like others i think the “free jump” feature should be free and if you want access to the workouts then charge $9.99 a month for that
Smh that subscription thing is just nuts.. I can't support a company that plays games like these... either lower the price or make a deal with us that we can use the app if we purchasing a jump rope that's over $200 bucks... Update me when they change this and I will buy...
it's not for everyone 🤷♂️
Yes you are correct. Same here. Not buying crossrope amp until they ease up on the subscription for output. Too expensive.
@@JumpRopeDudes
Thank you.
Does it have live classes like a pelaton?
no
I've been saying this for so long that some one should come out with a peloton like live class for skipping.
@@Ridahboy380 It's been discussed, but studio cycling classes are pretty established. Jump rope classes aren't as much of a thing yet ... definitely working towards what's possible.
what gets measured gets improved
#truth
Who gets all this health information? Unless I am getting a discount on my health insurance, what is the advantage, other than access to some stats.
It's not for everyone and that's okay. Some people love knowing how many skips they had, steps they took, or how many hours they spent in REM sleep.
We really like the power measure here, but if you prefer to not track the data, this isn't for you...
Either way, let's go DTT! 💪💪
Bro do u get tripped while skipping
happens all the time!
With the Amp app, can you share results and stats with friends?
yes
Nice setting, better then the parking lot😁
i always count to 120 skips thats exactly 1 min for me. to increase intensity i just fumble in some tricks. did this for 7 months 15 sets in 30 min around. lost 22kg.
Nice, sounds like it's working well. Keep doing the thing!
The only other back exercise I get is using the 1 and 2 lb ropes which I really feel make the difference.
heck yes! Amazing gains! Let's goo!
I did some research to find out how lib or conservative the owner was. He served in our navy and generally seems to be a pretty normal guy. Much better than the owner of Peloton who I’ll never buy from
Learned a lot 🎉
My Coros watch provide me most of those details without any monthly subscribing or buy an expensive rope😏
that's awesome!
I think you've answered this question, but do you lift weights or do you just jump?
I do bodyweight exercises, pull ups and pushups mostly. Occasionally I use dumbbells but not often.
@@JumpRopeDudes Thank you for the reply. This is what I really needed to hear. I have the crossropes and love them. I recently got the AMP handles and love them, too. I kinda fell off the wagon because was getting frustrated with my results. Like you say though, "do the thing." Looks like I just gotta keep at it. Thanks again for the reply. I'm sure you get thousands of questions.
Really enjoying them at home. I'm a bit of a tech nerd though.
Monthly subscription? Hahahahahahahaha, NO.
It's not for everyone.
All of there products are really expensive i have brought both sets and my smaller handles have rusted on one side.
who is "we" now??
You, me, the JRD team, the JRD community. Everyone with a jump rope!
Great video
I'm buying every jump rope set crossrope have.
💪🏻⚡️
Has my initials
awesome! did you get some? that's a sign.
Sooo ABBPLE gets love but not ANDROID? Not everyone has Apple
They now have it for Android too. I have an Android but can't get passed the monthly subscription to use them.
Ropes should be no more than 70 if a subscription is required
Hey man love your videos and I do your workouts everyday. Please if you get a chance come to india for a meetup so that we get to meet you and maybe do workout together love you man🤞❤
Dude we appreciate you so much! one day we'll get to india, that would be amazing!
Would be amazing if it were only a single fee to unlock AT LEAST the Bluetooth connectivity and maybe the subscription for those who want more. But again, just another money grab by the subscription model. I can’t imagine spending HUNDREDS just to jump rope. Thanks but no thanks.
Meh hard to see this as a credible review from dudes who are sponsored by Crossropes
We appreciate you stopping by Tony!
such a greedy brand, pathetic, daring to sell a subscription for your jumping rope, what a joke
Too biased for this review to mean anything. Jump rope metrics is really useless especially if you are charging for it. Duration and intensity is the only thing that matters.
Duration is easy to measure, but how would one measure intensity?
@@JumpRopeDudes Honestly, why do you need to measure anything? Ive seen Floyd jump with 10 dollar ropes and he is one of the best to do it. As long as you get a good hard workout in based upon YOUR standards you will be fine. Fancy metrics just complicate something that’s elementary in nature.
Why would I subscribe to the Cross Rope app if I am considering subscribing to the JRD app? I can appreciate the AMP, the data, stats, streaks etc but I think this potentially pulls $$ away from you Dan. I’d rather subscribe to the JRD app.
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😎🏴
Can't knock companies for grabbing subscription money. Many are willing to join. But I'm happy to track other ways.
^^ this!
Needing the subscription kills the value for these. What a disappointment.
😍🤤I love you 😍🤤💞
❤️❤️
I wont be upgrading due to the subscription of the app.
it's okay. you can still get it done with a regular set.
Samsung Galaxy watch does all this. No subscription needed.
How does that work? By counting the jumps or via the bluetooth?
not really....I have a Galaxy Watch
What a douchey review 😢 😴
Dan lost his partner and decided to sellout. Sad day for JRD. 🥺
Hey marquis - we appreciate you being here, but not really sure what you're referring to. B and I are on great terms. If you watch the videos, he's pursuing his passion which is something we feel we should ALL doing.
