Rome is wonderful in the middle of the night.
Walking through Rome in the middle of the night is a wonderful experience.
I was surprised how walkable Rome is. I walked about 8 miles a day there. It's really nice to hang out in the not so touristy areas, and to really see the city. No taxi needed at all, just comfy shoes and a water bottle :)

I spent 7 wonderful days in Rome when I participated at Art exhibition 1999. I was stationed in Trastevere. Every day was full of passion and delight, I wonder if it could ever happen again.
I had a city break in Rome. I loved it. So beautiful and not as expensive as my home town of London.
Italy is like EVERY nation. When you are there, be respectful, learn a bit of the language so you can at least say hello, goodbye, please and thank you. If you do that, you won't go far wrong.
Alas, Trastevere is also quite crowded nowadays.
If you want to have a wonderful overview of central Rome: Go for a walk on the Gianicolo heights above Trastevere. The views are breathtaking (and you'll find a hilarious statue of Garibaldi's wife Anita too).
Buy a several-day ticket for public transport, and carry a good transport map! Then you are absolutely free to move about.
Two Roman favorite dishes: Saltimbocca alla Romana, and Carciofi Giudia. Don't visit a restaurant displaying a menu in English.

Thank you for all your information. It definitely helped. I think Rome can be enjoyed if you have either a lot of time or a lot of money, but for a budget 2day trip, Rome has been my least favourite European city.

Too much change (money) - public restrooms cost 1 Euro! They do NOT take cards and many don’t change bills. You will pay!
Restaurants have restrooms - you MUST sit and order something!
Well.. if you politely ask to use there bathroom they will let you 🙂
I never paid for using the restroom in Rome ☺️

As long as you persist in visiting cities for tourists, they will put it in the usual place. Come here to Genoa which is a hundred times more beautiful and, what's more, you eat well

why should i worry about standing out as a tourist? if i’m a tourist then i’m a tourist. tourist bring a lot of money to destinations worldwide so if a city hates on tourists then they are hippocrates.
