  • In order to succeed in cannulation of blood vessels under ultrasound guidance, it is important to enter the blood vessel at the site where the vessel diameter is the largest, and further advance the needle tip within the blood vessel at the site where the vessel lumen is the largest. The short axis method has advantages over the long axis method for this purpose. However, for high-risk procedures such as central venipuncture, short axis and long axis methods should be used together for safety. It is recommended that you advance the needle using the short axis method and then check using the long axis method. The best way of mastering the long axis method is to understand the logical maneuver and do simulation training.

An example of how to make a phantom is explained in another video ua-cam.com/video/QAJ5rbJua7U/v-deo.html (9:38), although I don't know if the cuboid konjac jelly is available in your country.
