Dafoe was incredible in this. I remember watching this in the theatre and was blown away but felt uneasy all at once
Agreed!
Watched it three times in the cinema. Easily my favourite film in years.
I can definitely see why. It's an interesting experience.
I love how fans discussing this movie sound like sailors arguing some ghost story. "That island be cursed I say" and "Just a bunch of madmen" and everything in between.
Lmao so true man..I've watched the film 23 times or so... I've had to make a short version of it too for a project (I played Old). It really makes you go off on the story...masterpiece.
Dafoe and Pattinson worked so well in this. You're correct in saying that the black and white adds to the atmosphere.
Theres several theories about the meaning but The Vile Eye did a good analysis on the characters which is worth watching.
I couldn't agree more my friend. I'll definitely check out that video, hopefully it'll give me some clarity aha
Great reaction! 🤣🤣 That look on your face (deep thought/bewilderment/terror/mild frustration) said everything there was to say about this movie. I personally loved this because I remember so many horror movies over the years about mental illness where you find out at the end the guy's going crazy, or has been crazy the whole time, and most of them were shot pretty straightforward. The super-heightened art film/psychological puzzle seems so obvious to me for this kind of story. Even when it's over you're not really sure wtf is going on. The comedy bits were great, and the imagery was DISTURBING.
Couldn't agree more. Despite not knowing what was going on, I was enjoying myself 😂
Lots of greek mythology at play with him killing the bird & angering Poseidon who could be described as DeFoe's character.
Patterson has traits of Icarus (boy who flew close too the sun aka the lighthouse)
My favorite theory is he is a sailor that died at sea and he is being tested at the lighthouse by Poseidon. The ending is exactly as curse given during dinner by DeFoe.
Ahh, I like that idea! Tom or Winslow getting too close to the lighthouse which leads to his downfall.

@@theguywiththemicrophone6505 btw Dafoe plays the god Proteus in this film and Pattinson's character is inspired from Prometheus.
Dude, I literally just got done watching The Lighthouse when I saw that you uploaded this 😂
Perfect timing Mr Batman aha.
I love this movie so much
Fuck yes dude! I've been waiting for your reaction to The Lighthouse for some time now.
I was not disappointed by your reaction. And this is one of my favorite horror films with WTF moments for sure.
The ending was intense.
Yeah, I would've uploaded sooner if it wasn't for YT. Wtf moments for sure!
@@theguywiththemicrophone6505 it's also one of those films where you ask more questions. It's not meant to be answered either. It's like an open book.
It seems to me that most people try and look too deep into its meaning. To me it was just a great old fashioned movie about a haunted lighthouse that caused these two keepers to go mad. Loved it and Oscar worthy performances.
yer fond of me lobster
HARK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yer don't like me cookin? 😂😂
@@theguywiththemicrophone6505 "Don't be such an old bitch!"
@@theguywiththemicrophone6505 It twas yee that changed the wind on us
Coma, Marathon Man, Tootsie, Terms of Endearment, The World According to Garp, Dead Ringers, Peggie Sue Got Married, Dangerous Liaisons, Fatal Attraction, Driving Miss Daisy, Cocoon, Romancing the Stone, Sex Lies and Videotape.
seen people with theories about purgatory and stuff but I've no real interest in that kind of explanation lol, I think with artsy ambiguous films like this I prefer to just take whatever I get from it personally. The references to myths and other arts are cool though
Because of Robert Eggers new film The Northman releasing in July The Lighthouse and The Witch are reshowing at the theatre and you bet your ass I'm seeing them in the theatre
Omg instant like!!! I’m worried for you lol
I appreciate the concern! The movie is definitely an experience 😂
Great reactions! You’re so cute watching a strange a$$ movie at 2 in the morning! Yes, watch it again but this time, consider that there was only ONE person there the whole time. The only thing there is the silence, the sound of the gulls, your memories, your regrets, your sins... being stranded in isolation. What would you do? What would happen to your mental stability, especially knowing you’ve killed someone. But WHO was actually killed and by whom? Just a thought...
I love that they used the 1:19:1 ratio with a henna filter so that you can see every nook and cranny of each actor’s face. The art/set design was amazing. And the cinematography is taken right out of the 1930’s-1940’s playbook. There were no “special effects”, of real substance anyway, back then. So they used shadowing/lighting with amazing camera angles to depict the mood or the state of mind. The vagina of the mermaid was fashioned after the vagina of a sperm whale. Very original!
If you want to see a better performance by Defoe, watch “Shadow of the Vampire”. He was nominated for an Oscar for it, but be prepared to be weirded-out! It’s that good!!
They should have given a credit to “the farter “
TheGuyWithTheMicrophone , love your channel man
i enjoy watching your videos at midnight , just feels so good
Very strange indeed 🤣🤣. Great reaction
Thanks man!
damn ye
You're the best dude!
Thanks man :)
