As a complete non architect non engineer owner builder I have been looking at a lot of Block, Ochsendorf and Wests lectures on the web and am suprised at the lack of comments and views. What they are doing is the cutting edge of future building technologies and I thank them for being so open with their knowlege and skills, and thank orgs like Rice for making these lectures availible. 1 year and only 511 views (ive watched 3 times lol) and this as a second comment. So here is my comment- WOW!
Great work. Huge reductions in use of concrete and steel for high rise building floor systems. Super impressive. As a commercial plumber, we hang piping from the ceilings so we want to be able to set hangers (female threaded ceiling inserts) at designed locations with about 1/4” precision. Those will gave to be engineered. If poured onsite hangers could be set inside the formwork using a Trimble laser system, but if poured offsite and transported then the integration with MEP will need attention and mutual accommodations. Perhaps hanger strips on the face of the webs to enable reuse and sufficient flexibility. I’m very happy about this work and I hope you will have a woridwide impact on the standard of care for commercial construction.
