When you do the pivot move: the right comes out (on ball of foot) then use that small amount of body weight to push off towards the back. Then on the second beat your full weight needs to be on your right (back leg) meaning there is NO body weight on the left front leg. The lead at this position can have a connection at the hip-hip and can extend the connection at the thigh as well. In order for him to lead the point back and lift, he has to maintain that connection with you at the hip and thigh and you have to "feel" that connection going backwards and lift (like a mirror image if that makes sense). Otherwise if it was a forward step, he would have not made the connection and would have made you put body weight forward on the left towards another step.. hope this helps!
@@TinaOnEarth omg thanks so much! I've had a few attempts with this move, but I'm always confused if the lead wanted me to lift the leg, and it always results to laughter and apologies. So now I know! so if there is more (and firm) connection at the hip and thigh, there's a high possibility that it will be a lift instead of a normal front step :)
