Just waiting for my M1 Max to come in. No more limits on my mobile workflow!
Currently, what are you using? And what are the limits on your current mobile workflow?
I’m sold. *add to cart*
What config did you end up going with?
What’s your current delivery estimate? I ordered mine ~3 weeks ago and my projected delivery date is JANUARY 24TH! (16” M1 Max, 32gpu, 64GB ram, 2TB SSD) - I’m guessing it’s my chosen spec that pushes my delivery date out so far?
@@mikemanthe my coming December 15 - 22
Love it, so far. I'm coming from a Macbook with 8 gig of RAM, so my M1 Max is amazing!
Nice review! 14inch with M1MAX is my favorite for traveling and video editing.
16 M1 pro, is supposed to have the best battery life of them all.
Thank God as a developer I don’t need all those extra M1 max GPUs.
Always enjoy your videos, good job!
"supposed to"
16 M1 Pro running on "low battery mode" will definitely give you the best battery life out of all the Macbooks on the market.
Developer of what
@@simply6162 of nothing? Lol even app development plummets the battery life
If you spec the hell out of the 14 or 16 inch the battery life won’t last long and I wish more reviewers mention this and compare it to the base models.
Nice to see you sticking with resolve. I left premiere a while back and haven’t looked back since.
Yay Sony a7s iii playback! I miss that space bar :')
the cats paw 😻
Great video. Keep teaching us and we will keep watching.
Very nice video and very informative made after a very deep analysis
Regarding battery life, if you're using your computer casually, use Low Power Mode to slow it down a bit. For almost all my work, I don't notice Low Power Mode at all, and I have a feeling that unless you're doing lots of composites and stuff like that, for just doing basic edits and stuff, you'd be fine doing that in Low Power. I'm able to run almost all my Logic Pro music projects in Low Power Mode.
There is no low power mode on Macs (and it isn't needed). With M1 Chips you are also already on low low low low power consumption anyway ^^
@@Seitenwerk Why would you say that when there definitely is a low power mode and I'm using it right now?
been waiting for ur vid :)) even though im not getting any 16inch but gonna watch your vid for just ur vid XD
What a great machine! And great video.
I think from articles I read that the main issue with your not so crazy battery life is Chrome usage.
Does the maxed out version lag or its super fast?
Hey Sara. Thanks for your great video. Regarding your statement at 16:06 it is not true. The max brightness sdr is the same on both MacBooks. I tried it myself. The difference is that the intel model has more or less a log scale of the brightness levels and the M1 max Model uses a linear scale. I tested this with my spy der Elite.
Using all Apple software will almost double your battery life.
This is great and all. Well, except for me. Who bought a new M1 13" MBP shortly before the NotchBooks came out.
We love you so much
Is the SSD really upgradable? How do you do that yourself or via Apple 🍏?
Judy is a cutie. Very good video, Sara. I like the comparisons amongst the various video editing suites for the M1 Max.👍🏾
I initially planned to get the 14", but I decided to get the 16" about a week before for better battery life and cooling. I have loved so many things about it, but the weight is killing me! I'm definitely going to exchange it for the 14".
go do a back workout at the gym to get stronger so you can carry your 16'' MacBook
@@notionarray Nah, I exchanged it for the 14 & I love it.
You shouldn’t say “upgradable to 8TB”. It can confuse people. It is only configurable to 8TB
Why do you need 64gb ram?
I am not remotely interested in buying the mac. Only watching this video because this girl is so freaking funny.
Does anyone know where to buy a case for the new macbook pro m1 max? like a hardshell or tough one? thanks
What do you mean it’s upgradable to 8gb?
Great video
Byyyyeeeeeee......
don't most people use microsd cards these days? i am surprised they chose SD over microSD.
Lol
I'd never u se a phone with a notch, much less a Laptop. Can't believe they thought it would be a good idea to have that in the middle of the screen disgusting.
I am here waiting for MacBook Air to come out hopefully with the new update
I love stevejobs I love apple 🍎
It is shocking that Chrome uses more energy than Resolve :)). About the battery, it is about right, video editing is pretty much GPU intensive which still draws a lot of power. How about Final Cut Pro, you didn't talk about it in this video.
That's because she doesn't use Final Cut as much. She is primarily and Premiere and Davinci user which she has spoken about in her previous videos
Love mine!
cat powered laptops. the cat is the one putting the brainpower into the computer via the paw.
Waiting for this video find helpful thanks
Mine comes on December 2🥰
LETS GOOOOOO
i found that having only one chrome window opens has a huge impact on battery life. So I split the screen, and use the same chrome window with all my apps
This is the video I’ve been waiting for! Buying as a film composer! Thanks for your hard work Sara
>>>>>> #SARADIETSCHY X #TECH SO MUCH INCREÍBLE EXCELLENT WORK>>>>>>>>
*Hi Sara :) Video Editor Mark here on North Vancouver Island. I would be very interested to see some tests of how the 2019 16 inch MBP with the 8 Core Intel (i9) CPU and the AMD Radeon Pro 5600M with the 8GB of on board HBM2 super fast video memory and 32 GB of DDR4 System RAM fairs against the new M1 16 inch MBP.*
I think Max Tech has done some comparisons of these.
@@johngwheeler Max is just another Apple FanBoy, and you cannot trust ANYTHING that guy says ! He conducts extremely misleading tests in order to make Apple products look impressive !
Windows Alternative in that price range?
Coming soon... look out for the new alder lake chips and benchmarks. Curious if Intel can keep up. AMD is currently doing a good job.
Think about the environment, and your costs. How much power does your big boy Puget Systems Fusion PC use by itself? Then how much does your new Apple MacBook Pro M1 Pro use?
With all these reviews with the new Apple MacBook M1 Pro / M1 Max against previous versions of Apple products, Intel, and AMD laptops the one thing that is only talked about in passing is the power needed to run these devices. POWER needed = total cost over the life of the product. Not only for the power needed to run the device itself, also the environment it is in to cool in the summer. Even at idle it looks like the new Apple laptops draw much less power. This might be why more host systems in the data centers are moving to ARM processors.
Can not wait to see what is next from Apple as I am still looking to replace my iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014). Thing is with all the reviews I have watched looks like a number of people in the production world are using from the Apple MacBook Air to the top of the line 16-inch MacBook Pro M1/Max along with an external large screen 4K+ monitor on a vesa arm mount.
Now in the past have never thought about this configuration, however this would give me a second screen that I have always wanted. Also then could unplug the laptop, and use it anywhere in the house, or even take it with me to Starbucks once we get to the other side of the "COVID-19 pandemic of the unvaccinated".
🍑
Exciting to get my hands on the 14” haha I’ve been traveling some and I have a 16” and I never realized how huge it was compared to when I held my brothers 13” he uses for developing haha. Also the speeds on the renders ooooof! 😭🤌
I'm so waiting for the rumored M1 Max Mac Mini (as I'm not that much an editing on laptop kinda guy) and/or obviously the next Mac Pro (but won't be able to afford it, probably). Those M1 Max numbers look cool.
Why not just dock, you can literally use one cable to run a lot of equipment. I used to run a 34” 5K2K and a 32” 4K with a thunderbolt 3 dock. Easy to grab and go as everything was connected via 2 cables.
@@OmarDaily perhaps for the Built In ethernet port?
@@izzee50 dock still solves that
I was too but just decided to go back to the dock life and called it a day. I'm too impatient to wait on a thing that might not even come lol.
@@OmarDaily Price and not needing to spend money on apples keyboard+trackpad that get wasted docked and its cheaper because it doesn't include their display, which while great and nice at normal laptop view distance sucks compared to a 25-32in screen.
a M1mini with max or pro should start at 1200-1500$
Hey Sara, did you try rendering by turning 'Energy Mode' to high power? You will get faster render times by turning that on before rendering. Keep to automatic otherwise.
Ordered mine (16” Max 64GB 32GPU 8TB), it’s probably one of my highest most crazy electronics purchase, but it will replace both my old iMac 27” and MacBook, and I will use it for very intense music production with hundreds of tracks and plugins. I just can’t wait to get it, it should arrive mid-january since there was 6 to 8 weeks delay for any setup with 64GB ram.
Hey Sara, Did you get artifacts in your render on Premier Pro?
WHY SHE DIDN'T TRY LUMA FUSION???
Same for me ! Lot of glitch !!! SONY A7S3 / H264 / 422 10 bit / XAVC-S ... / No more glitch on CC 2022 BUT a lot of other bugs and problem....
Not yet but I will say I've had issues with glitchy exports since the beginning of time with premiere. both on windows and mac haha so that inconsistency is why i switched to resolve. Are you experiencing it?
@@saradietschy Yeah it's brutal. I can't export on either the 14 or 16. Have to carry a PC laptop with me at all times. Btw hit me up if you're back in NYC and feel like dropping by the studio for a collab
My 4K30 footage from the Sony A7C with colour grading exports EXTREMELY fast on the 14” MacBook Pro M1 Pro. 15 minute video takes like 10 minutes in FCP.
Until there is Bootcamp, m1 mac is just worthless to majority of people except Apple fanboys and content creator maybe.. Limited games and software...
Such a fantastic machine to work on! Curious how the M1 chips will develop into the new iMacs.
This video wasn't for me but it was very good. Looking forward to a future video based on software development.
Hi Sara, and thanks for your honest feedback, especially at around 19:35 - 19:40, regarding battery life. I am still testing, but I ran my Dell XPS 9710 side-by-side with my MacBook Pro/M1 Pro 16, running various tasks, watching UA-cam videos (like yours, duh 😉), TV shows, movies, Photoshop projects, light editing a video and rendering from DaVinci Resolve (9mins XPS / 5mins Mac, by the way), web surfing, emails, FB Messenger, social media posts, etc...
And after several hours of this, both laptops were at 63% battery left! I expected the MacBook to smoke the XPS (especially as it's a 17" with 4K UHD and touch) and that the MacBook would still have 80% left, or some crazy thing like that, from all the reports on UA-cam reviews! .....I don't know where they're getting those numbers either! ....What are we "doing wrong"? lol 😅
........BTW, no "touch option", really? In 2021? ...I don't use it a TON, but enough where I find myself reaching up to scroll a page, or select something real quick, "X" out of something - but, OOPS! ....forgot, no touch screen on my MacBook, like my XPS!
.......Oh, and speaking of screens - the MacBook is REALLY nice, better than nearly every screen out there, but NOT even close to the UHD 4K on my XPS. I ran all kinds of content side-by-side and the XPS is so much prettier, bigger, better, colorful, and CRISP! ...and no "notch"! I can click "zoom-to-fill" and the WHOLE InfinityEdge screen fills up and is so gorgeous and immersive!
I don't know if it's the slightly-higher PPI, resolution, screen size, higher RGB, but I am looking at them right next to each other, running the EXACT same content (UA-cam videos, movies, TV shows, streaming, native video) and I just LOVE the XPS 17!
I am afraid I am ruined for life now! ...If it's not 16:10 screen and this big, crisp and colorful, in this premium of a form factor, well........... sorry
Why do people use Premiere when Resolve exists? Seriously, what are your main reason except that you're used to it?
Would you recommend getting 1 or 2TB of internal storage - I feel as if 1TB will be enough and I can just use external drives (as long as they are fast enough) for editing?
2
I was at best buy for a cable, and they had the new Macbook. I checked it out, and holy crap it feels so nice. Like the design the curves, it feels so god damn premium and nice. They really crushed it. The best feeling Mac ive ever touched
What's the render time in final cut?
Wow I love the color.. May I ask what camera and LUTs or color grading software you used?
Very good very nice free and you god bless you ❤️💖
People get 7-8hrs battery life on the MBP16 running M1Pro, Safari ... not M1Max, Chrome.
How would getting a MBP14 because the trackpad is too big on the MBP16 make your battery life improve?
Interesting ....
Better than Chrome is Brave or Firefox.
Brave > Chrome
Hi Sara! Thanks so much for your reviews on the new 14" and 16" MacBook Pros. Very helpful for me when deciding what to buy. I went with the 14" with the M1 Pro processor, 32 gigs of memory and 2 TB's of internal storage. I am a primarily a Logic Pro User but just now getting into video. I joined the Sony family with the ZV-1, also thanks to your reviews on the Sony cameras!
For an amateur editing machine this looks amazing and at a fraction of the cost of pro systems and probably a lot easier to use.
Quick Look on windows....changed my life 😱
THANK YOU!!!!
x86 vendors have been selling us expensive room heaters all this time
Hey there, how do you get the xf avc video previews?
I'm curious what intel will do with alder lake and other chips. This is the competition we need. It will make AMD, Intel and other chip makers innovate. The consumer wins!
Alder Lake systems have a 1000 Watt power supply recommendation. Good luck using that in the field.
Considering how slow Intel was transitioning to smaller lithograph if it weren't for the professional and consolidated PC market with these results they risked EXTINCTION. And they won't even react directly.
I share so little sympathy with Intel... and nowadays even less when you find out that a toaster oven machine costing several thousands of USD struggles to compete with a system on a chip inside a mobile envelope.
@@m80116 maybe but the first benchmarks look promising. It is almost like they held back with releasing Alder Lake until Apple released the chips. And if you are a windows user it will be Intel or AMD anyway
@@maartenmidden1651 Totally fine but for all I know they're bruteforcing performance with a noticeable inferior performance per watt.
I am not sure as a coroporate I would invest into a new inefficient architecture that's eating into their traditional perf. headroom that managed to provide decades old history of reliability.
That is putting them under negative light even in favor of the fabless AMD firrm.
*PERHAPS Sara will be going BACK to Apple, NOW with the M1M? hmm*
I'd love to know how you find the 14" M1 Max screen for creative work. Is it unusable? Painful but workable?
The proportions on the 14 are so much nicer than the 16, though the latter isn't as heavy as I thought it would be.
Have the exact same question. I love the feel of the 14" as it is much more comfortable and portable, but not sure if the screen real estate of the 16" would make a dramatic difference in video/photo editing workflow
@@RunningInSuits If it helps, the differential in resolution is:
432x270
But at native res, text should be easier to read on the 16".
Every youtube review is a video editors review. 🤦♂️
Previewing off SD card is something that's pretty useless. It's all going to a hard drive anyways, just copy it and then sort it out after. *shrug*
as far as people reporting much longer battery life. those people typically throw their computer into low power mode and just leave it there. apparently performance doesn't suffer enough for them to matter.
So Resolve still sucks for doing any kind of FX.. got it 😅
M1 Max: 24 mins 11 secs.
Premiere Pro: 26 mins 6 secs.
Puget Desktop: 26 mins 15 secs.
M1 Pro: 45 mins 22 secs.
M1 13 inch: 1 hr 59 mins 5 secs.
Question on your testing with the 13 inch MacBook Pro M1 vs the 16 inch MacBook Pro M1 did you use for the 13 inch did you use 16gb of Ram or 8 gb of Ram?
I know this so insignificant but you are so pretty like seriously.
2:57 im sure apple nible bits. use some other video editing and you get different result. its a fact!
Hello sara and how your day going and have you thought about live streaming on twitch and starting your own vlog channel on youtube and starting your own tiktok account and starting your own discord account and starting your own patreon account or onlyfans account in the future
"especially the 1s who don't use final cut" i feel attacked
When the cat turns on 'Do Not Disturb' at 2:52 😻🤣
Very useful info presented in a Stream Of Consciousness format.
0:56 oh really? next year M2 full price upgrade...
i've always found some of these video content creators posing in front of the camera so cringe
Crack version autodesk software is applicable?
Nicely done. I've been using Resolve on my M1 MacBook Air and it is simply fantastic for my standard 4k workflow. I may look into a new M1Pro machine once they hit the refurb store.
It's still not good in premiere. See fstoppers video. While rendering is blazing day, the editing was frustrating
I think the 16” M1 Pro with
10 core CPU
16 core GPU
16 gb unified memory
And 1 TB seems like the sweet spot for power and battery life. I’m not saying this laptop is for everyone but it’s just the perfect balance of power and efficiency.
I’ve probably watched 15 different videos on this so that’s my only source
32GB RAM*
plz time stamps ........ that would be of great help ......
I'm addicted to my Macbook Pro M1. It's one of the best laptops I ever owned for video editing. I went all in. I got 2 TBs of storage, Final Cut, and Logicpro on my MacBook Pro M1. I paid $3,000 for it but it was worth it.
It is not the same as in thumbnail. False advertising.
We are soooooooo spoiled as Mac users.
Seriously.
There literally is nothing messing with the M1 chipset ATM.
Literally
This will change over time, of course. It ALWAYS does.
But for now?
M1 Mac all the way
Ouh... I want one...
but...
expensive.
If you wanna edit on mac, final cut really is the best for it.
you are very beautiful..😍😍😍
Did you turn on high performance mode?
Great review. Could you tell us how many hours of battery life that you get during regular use on your 16 inch M1 max when you're not doing intensive work? Thanks.
ur stunning video editor
How didn't u still pass 1 mil?
