I love it! I've just turned our garage into a 5 kennel boarding room. I told my kids that I'd be happy if we were full on the weekends after one year in business. 6 weeks in, we are booked almost all week every week. At $25 per night we're easily making $600 per week. I'm in South MS. Best job ever for myself and my homeschoolers!😊🐾
Keeping the customer updated is the number one most important thing on your business side! Keep it up and you'll need to expand in no time! (4 years in and we need to for sure! 😳 Lol)
My husband is a contractor and he got hired to install kennels for a lady that does this business , omg he sent me videos on the conditions they are in it’s horrible the lady been asking my husband to take the dogs to the yard & feed them because she does not want to . Broke my heart
Absolutely love your set up great idea but it was a poor choice to film it at night the LED was harsh on the eyes and it made it harder to see your outdoor set up as well
Hey Kerry, My younger sister, Tracey, has been a dog groomer/business owner on her homestead for over 30 years. She has kennels too. I'm going to share this video with her, because I know she will love it!! 🐕🐩🐾🐕🦺💗👏🏼👏🏼😊
Haven't had an aggressive dog. We usually meet and discuss with owner. If it was aggressive towards people wed say no. Aggressive towards other dogs wed agree if it was the only dog. Thanks
I'm sure it depends on the state. We are in Illinois and have to have a license. But the insurance is optional (wouldn't recommend not having insurance though)
What kind of license do you need to start a boarding business? And did you get it before or after the building was done? I want to start my business soon but want to make sure I have all the legal aspects straight before I start. Any tips?
Please check in you local area..it not only varies by state but by county too. For us, having only 4 kennels allowed the licensing to be easier..5 or more is ok but more steps. Check with your local zoning
Did you guys run plumbing to the building? How are you filling up dog bowls and cleaning kennels? I am working to get a set up like this going and am looking for ideas! Thank you for sharing this!
@@katietuder1631 Katie, running plumbing is actually easier than you think! Look into using PEX tubing with shark bite fittings, it’s super easy. Good luck!
No. we have it setup as an LLC so our liability is limited that way. We also have a general umbrella policy for our house/property. Nothing more though- thanks
I'm curious and afraid that unscrupulous owners would abandon their dogs in your care and not pay or ever come back for their dogs. There are alot of homeless unwanted dogs around that people are trying to get rid of. The shelters are all full.
A valid concern. We are very remote here and so not a huge city with many dogs, but I suppose it's possible. We do get paperwork, vet docs, shots and an agreement but still I realize anything is possible

Awesome job, congrats!
Do you mind me asking how you started with marketing your kennel business? We are a homeschool family as well and this would be perfect for us!

Yes, keep sharing money-making tips. Thanks.
Will do. Thx@
Ok
I am curious about starting an at home kennel. Do you use homeowners insurance or a seperate business insurance.
Have you ever encountered an aggressive dog/ do you guys only accept friendly dogs?
Haven't had an aggressive dog. We usually meet and discuss with owner. If it was aggressive towards people wed say no. Aggressive towards other dogs wed agree if it was the only dog. Thanks
@@Homesteadhow wow thats really good to know, thanks!
Great 👍 I have many dogs on my channel
I’ve thought about this, wondering if you need any license/ insurance. Great video. Thanks.

No plumbing. We carry over water for drink and cleaning.
@@Homesteadhow thanks! That’s what I’m going to have to do! Apparently it costs a small fortune to run plumbing!

Too small for each dog these should only be used for small breeds. I like the building tho 👍
How much did it cost to build the building

If you make a profit from breeding dogs then you are not doing it right. Breeding dogs is not business and shouldn't be seen as such.
We Don't breed dogs, geez where do these comments come from? We are a kennel to board dogs
any advice in getting the initial funding? @homesteadhow
I’m wondering the same
