Thank you! No one ever taught me how to wind these lines. I've been walking back and forth and back and forth laying out the kite, lines, and handle to keep things from wrapping. Kudos to you for showing this.
Your video makes it look so easy. I know in the past 3 years I've spent more time untangling lines than flying my SLE. Last summer I got so pissed at a tangled line set I wadded them up and put them in the dumpster. Bought another 85' set that I have not tried yet. I'm thinking 4 separate line spools on a stick might work for me.
Thank you so very much for this. I just got my first Rev earlier today, and spent a good portion of my evening trying to untangle the lines. This is going to make life so much easier. Thank you!
Thanks for the tutorials! I just ordered my first quad kite (Albatross), and really looking forward to trying out some of the skills you talk about. Cheers!
I'm a first time rev owner and it just got delivered today, waiting for the first flight. Thanks a bunch for posting all of these tutorial videos; I've been binge watching them and soaking in all the knowledge I can. You guys have given me a huge head start and surely saved me some headaches and frustration.
Great to hear, it all gets easier! Be sure to check out our forum at KiteLife as well as LearnKites.com for a full index of our tutorials, including the ones available to paid subscribers. 🤘
I now look forward to less troubles in my line winding. I see a couple of fundamental errors in my technique now. Thanks heaps. I look forward to future tutorials
John, probably a delayed question by many years, but what if I land the rev upright on the vertical stabilizers? Will this method still be e same? And I wouldn't have to launch and land upright.
hi only me again. i took my rev out again to try again as there was more wind 2day. no joke i had about 3 hrs of flying O.M.G. its so much fun and i got tje hang of it strait away. just so happy that i got to fly it with no props so thank u for your help :)
Today 2:35pm to 4:00. New 85' quad gold line set. I got maybe 10 minutes of flight time, the remaining time was line setup, untangling lines after many 15 spin cartwheels. I was drew to Revolution kites after watching videos. Later I realized consistent coastal winds were needed. Kansas winds are like this today, 8,2,18,0,12,24,3. Yea, they vary like that all day, we never have a good straight wind like you coastal guys. Kansas gusting winds are for 2 string kites. Ebay my kite.
@TechnexLOL : I'm sure there are a couple of landing tutorials out there for dual lines, but once you've landed, the best way is to stake the handles securely with the kite leaning back about halfway... It's likely to launch if standing fully upright, but if it's leaning back the kite should stay on the ground.
this guy is a god when it come to helping sort out my rev all his vids r a big help. iv just sorted my line lengths but my bottom lines r still longer than the top do these all need to b the same length and what r the nots for on the kite thanks. reving sonict
For 20 plus years I have used this method with no problems. However, I do figure eight wind my lines which makes for very easy one handed unwinds as I walk backwards from the stake to the kite. The string comes right off the winder ears. I do have the bigger wooden winder though.
@bob9ism : Hi, thanks for the props in your other comment, it's my pleasure. :) For line length and equally as important, tuning... I strongly suggest you browse the first several topics in the Tuning/Adjustments section of the Revolution discussion forum, please find the link below. revkites.com/forum/forum/3-tuning-adjustments That's just the tip of the iceberg, there is a WEALTH of useful information that will enhance and simplify your Rev experience for years to come. ;)
Still leading the way with Rev tutorials, we're actively working on a whole new wave of tutorials to release over the next several months - stay tuned! #kite #tutorial #education #revolution
Hi Chris - the top lines can be a bit longer than the top (adjusted with the leaders), key is to ensure both top lines match each other, and that the bottom lines match each other as well... I suggest you visit the main KiteLife Com website, go to Video > Video Tutorials for advanced tutorials that cover tuning, control and more... Our forum also has a lot of friendly and knowledgable folks that can help. ;)
It is easy, just a matter of applied techniques that eliminate the variables... Most twists occur not from the wrapping itself, but two WAYS of wrapping that are working against each other - try this technique carefully, and it will work if done correctly. ;)
Not so important - if you place the kite belly down on flat turf, leading edge into the wind, it's nearly impossible for the kite to move about. Main question would be, are you comfortable unwinding while holding an assembled kite or not? No wrong answer.
Think nothing of it! Handling quad lines can be intimidating, but with these techniques, easy 3-5 minutes to set up and 3 minutes to take down, every time. :)
@oregandes : Glad you like the tutorial, I think you'll find the others to be of similar caliber. ;) Also, be sure to check out the whole collection of tutorials at learnkites(DOT)com
I find it a bit scary that I just spent 10 minutes watching a video on winding and unwinding lines. Still deciding if I should admit I liked it. I'm definately not going to admit I learned something. Now if I can just avoid hitting Enter by accident no one need ever know.
It only looks like it, because I move the winder around the lines coming out of my left hand... Being right handed, that hand is still active, just moving the winder instead of the lines, or both, but mostly the winder... Just faster and more accurate for me that way. -- JB :)
Hrm, ya, that doesn't sound normal - Revs don't usually have washers on the bridle. Must be a really old Rev I maybe? What part of the country do you live in? One meet up at a kite event, and someone would happily have you sorted out in a matter of minutes... Takes me 3 minutes to set up, 3 minutes to tear down, everytime - that's not skill, it's just process. ;)
sorry bloody phone. i got the hang of it right away. i were doing all sorts of stuff that just blu me away so had to save up 4 my rev when i got it i were like yay lol but i just cant do owt with it. there aint no bridle at all so not sure how to sort it
Thank u but i give up with the rev all it does is flop farward every time but i think its cus there is no bridles there is just 4 metal washers there and on the lines there swivel clips. No matter how windy it is it just fkops and im getting very fustrated with it. So i got a cheap quad line and it landed on its side and snaped in half well thats what u get for going cheap. Im going back to a 2 line kite till i can afford a nu rev and not another 2nd hand but thanks for getting baak to me
Seriously, I should have watched before I launched my 4m powerkite with 4 lines. Spent 2hrs unwrapping/untwisting the lines. No good info out there. Thanks.

I really appreciate your guidance and time. As a brand new quad pilot I value the straightforward and easy to follow tutorials you provide .
Nothing beats experience, and empathy for the pilot experience. 😉
Excellent tutorial. I'm new to quad line kites..and with your help, it has allowed me more fly time and less headaches setting up.

This is gold. This will save me tons of time. Thanks!
great info and instruction. I will practice these techniques so I can fly more and untangle less!
Thanks, we'll keep 'em coming, hope folks find them to be useful. ;)

While I don't fly Revos (all Deltas right now), I can appreciate keeping the kite "put" during landing, especially in 10+ MPH winds.
very nice videos. can't wait to see more.

We've added Spanish subtitles to this tutorial, thanks to the hard work of Gustavo Di Si!
Could you please post a link or give information as to where you got your cool ground stake? I would like to order a few. Thanks
Great. So in high winds how are you supposed to detach the kite and walk away to wind your lines up?
Great, foolproof method. Thanks.
im from peterborough in the uk. iv been flying kite now for a good 15 yrs i had a go on a rev a while ago and got the hang of it right away (

Lemony Snicket Whatever gets you up and flying in 10 minutes or less, any more is wasted time you could be flying instead. ;)

At what point in the process do you build the kite if it is very windy, before the lines are staked and attached it may fly away?
Not so important - if you place the kite belly down on flat turf, leading edge into the wind, it's nearly impossible for the kite to move about. Main question would be, are you comfortable unwinding while holding an assembled kite or not? No wrong answer.
Dutch subtitles added, thanks to Marc van der Graaf!
UA-cam was having subtitle problems for the past day or so, should be working now... It is for me. ;)
Think nothing of it!

This video makes it look like you are left handed. Do you prefer to wind your lines left handed?
It only looks like it, because I move the winder around the lines coming out of my left hand... Being right handed, that hand is still active, just moving the winder instead of the lines, or both, but mostly the winder... Just faster and more accurate for me that way. -- JB :)
Work on this method, and you can look forward to less than 5 minutes for set up or tear down - why mess around, spend that extra time flying! :)
Just added Hungarian subtitles, thanks to Zsolt Erdei!
bravo

As a beginner I found the only way my kite lands is before i want it to and head first.. crash fail and start again!
Thank u but i give up with the rev all it does is flop farward every time but i think its cus there is no bridles there is just 4 metal washers there and on the lines there swivel clips. Oh yeah, and I "figure 8" my dual lines, which just two can be a pain, let alone 4...Yikes!
Setting up my lines usually takes me 40 minutes.
LOL radio voice!
