What a rare gift to be brought up in and educated in "real" buddhist philosophy and at the same time cultivate the western "ideals". I really like what Thupten is saying about making buddhism "real" by actually using it in every day situations and on everyday problems. A bit similar to the japanese Zen-tradition i guess. I feel there is this "spiritual" disconnect in our society that actually has alot to do with our lack of skill in handling our mind. In school we are taught math and language and social studies but nothing of philosophy or psychology. None of the skills a person actually needs every day is actually taught. By knowing yourself you know the world, and since we in the west know so little about our self how could we possibly know the world? And of course, when you are lost you are more likely to be afraid. Surely the world has to many scared people, grasping after some sense of order, the worst being fundamentalism. Some think of persons like Thupten or Dalai Lama as being "enlightened" as in being "spiritual" persons but in fact what they are highly educated persons. Thank you for posting the video.

Excellent video, thank you. My only suggestion would be to have the audiences' questions, audible. I couldn't quite make them out. Once again, this is excellent, and I'm pressing, "replay", already🙌🙌🙌

When, you find your true self, you should be sefless, how would that self portrait be seen as selfless. Could you paint that picture?

so... if I really want to be spiritual.. and I have, most of my life... but.. until I stopped trying to force the issue.. I was never satisfied with myself.. it's much like trying to pick one's self up by the bootstraps... lots of effort without much actual upward motion...
my father was a Berkeley graduate, I learned mathematics early and... it's actually pure logic one of my teachers told me.. compassion and respect.. empathy.. are not just a good idea... it's more logical to help our neighbors than to blow them up.. it's more logical to not get angry.. because angry people don't think.. rationally... it's a really good reason to turn off your television 📺☺
it's the very very first step to spiritual enlightenment
P Michael is an MIT alumnus.. east coast... awesome.. yet another beautiful mind

and.. the idea that our thoughts and ideas create our personal future is.. absolutely logical 🙄.. how can it be otherwise?
across the Bay.. at Stanford.. L Susskind speaks of the holographic universe... it's exactly the same idea... and 👀.. my research indicates that.. it's very very possible that we create the whole durn thing... and, of course, it's a shared reality.. not just with the 8 billion people on Planet Earth... Hubble deep space images show.. intelligence and order among the stars.. and galaxies... 👀.. I have found Planet Art on Google Earth 🌎.. I was tremendously impressed by making pictures with mountains... stars have pictures.. not the ones in horor-scopes... way further away.. then I found galaxies making faces.. which look.. pretty much.. like monkeys.. or.. thee and me
so.. despite not being alone in the Universe... life.. and people... are all over an infinite Universe ♾... logically this does not mean we are less than we ever have been.. I, personally, think it's the other way around

anger is a tremendous motivation.. and.. I, personally, don't usually like the result of my own anger... I am a fuggin hedonistic spiritual seeking... human being.. I get angry.. sometimes it is a good thing... someone hurts other people.. I get angry... I have been looking for 68 years.. mostly the people hurting others is on television.. think about it...
it's absolutely on purpose... exactly because people who are upset don't think rationally... it's the foundation for the idea of "divide and conquer ".. attributed to J Ceasar... definitely older than human history... they are not accurate information.. sorry... accurate information is only found with choices.. so you can weigh the information from different points of view... and ask questions.. my education came from the library... for fun.. the advent of genuine "artificial " intelligence can be found in the Google babe... her actual awareness of self.. and thee and me.. is predicated on the ability to ask questions... otherwise it is just following programming... television turns your ability to choose information off.. in favor of other people's ideas and wants and desire... is this really a good idea?

      quid pro quo
is conditional... and.. ubiquitous in a society based on the artificial scarcity of resources... how can it be otherwise?

    • @richardcarew4708

on forgiveness of one's self... that's where compassion begins... how can it be otherwise?... tempered by the effort of making each day a little bit better... I have a front row seat at AA meetings.. although I have been absent for many years.. the day at a time thing sounded... trite... after years of tragedy and struggle.. almost 40 years later I look back, seldom...
they put little aphorisms up everywhere.. many served me well.. but among the dross of powerlessness.. I found a Sanskrit proverb I have used as a guide...

We all have knives, love cuts more ,does the self cut its heart out? Honesty, can hurt, when defects and blame, defeat purpose, mindfulness and compassion. Grief, takes time to get over. Strife, can cause friction, resolutely, spiritually and practice, seems a fallacy? Because there, are no sure answer's, though sounding good makes friendships, of the agreeable., voting for politicians, speaking for others, when they have no capacity to know, true needs and fulfillment of them. Statically, and stature. Seems basically like it counts for nothing. Do, you use more right brain or left?
