The Saturn sky. Basically a Pontiac solstice with different badges.
Wrong! Completely different body....Look up the 2007 Opel gt 😉 but it all started with the Vauxhall VX Lightning concept.
RIP Saturn and Pontiac - the two divisions had the car, and it was discontinued and not moved to another division after they were eliminated.

The Saturn looked better than the Solstice. I’m not digging the wrap though.
I agree, they look way better than the Pontiac, the front of the Pontiac always looked off to me, and black would look *way* better.
The Pontiac is the female version.
The front of the Solstice can look pretty sick with some aftermarket fiberglass front bumpers that are out there on the market, but honestly, a bone stock Sky still looks better than the coolest looking modded solstice I've seen.
I have a Sky myself, and honestly, in my experience, it turns more heads than my dad's C5.
@@homestar92 Same here. I have a '08 Sky, beautiful car, and it really holds its value. I like what the owner did with his modifications, looks different and interesting. For me, it already has enough head turns and stares. I like it, just the way it is.
Base Solstice yes, GXP no.
It's a nice car but the huge panel gaps seriously detract from the appearance.

This is the sister car of the Pontiac Solstice, which is one of the five sports cars Scotty told us NOT to buy... oh well, too late for this guy to change his mind!
The engine and transmission in the top model of each is way better than anything else both power wise and reliability wise. Its true, dont get the base engines, they are horribly unreliable.
Respect to the owner for taking pride in his whip. Hate all the hate in the car scene.

I always found all the redlines overlooked. Both the sky and ion redlines can make really good daily drivers thanks to that though, but only because they didn't hold value very well and the performance isn't the best for their respective platforms.
Totally agree it's underrated. I have a 2009 Saturn Sky Redline that I bought new. Problem with a blown $10 fuse and had to change the battery a couple times because I didn't hook up trickle charger for winter storage. That's it. Most fun to drive. Scratching my head as to why this guy lowered it though.
The sky is the first car that really caught my eye before I became an enthusiast. I like what he did with it.

He did a fantastic job with the mods. This car needed GM to do serious work on it to make it competitive. Kind of like the Fiero in the 1980's. They didn't learn.

Got Solstice GXP with a few mods for my fun car. The GXP and Redlines are really fun machines.
4th of July weekend I bought n '08 Sky Red line... Love it 😊
Fun fact: This car was released as a Daewoo in Korea with very limited production.
Daewoo G2X but still made in Wilmington, Delaware!

Sold as all three with very little change. However the Solstice made it to market a year earlier with a slight variation in the front end, minor changes in the rear... Oh and the consoles on the interior.

I got ion with 400,000 had since new. I had to replace clutch at 320,000 thermostat at 67,000. I got my modded out. I had it turbo on it for 40,000 miles til that broke .. I see the car going another 100,000 easy.

This is a cool looking car! Wow, love the matte purple look 🤩 I also love how the back of it looks like it's a front lol, nice car man.
Think the car wouldve faired a lot better if he just kept the look stock. Curious to know how much hp hes getting after the tune, that thing would be a track monster. But that gap is atrocious- - paired with the illegal taillights, i dont think the visual mods were worth it
GM Stage 1 tune is good for 290whp. Highflow cat/downpipe will get you past 300. Stock turbo maxes out around 360whp which is fine cuz past that you have start upgrading internals.
A stock Redline/GXP is a bit faster than a miata around a track according to some old Motor Trend tests.

Maybe I should jump ship too since I don't have a 1994 Toyota Celica in silver grey. I have a 2006 Pontiac Solstice that Scotty says they, "fall apart". I never knew that since I have never had a mechanical or body issue ever. Mine looks brand new ( all stock ).

I also have an American car ... Opel GT ... Everything I read about GM-KAPPA cars, ALL (SATURN SKY, OPEL GT, DAEWOO G2X) are made in USA (Wilmington-Delaware) .. I REALLY LIKE THAT CAR ... MX5 was my first option, but SATURN SKY / OPEL GT was my DREAM !!! Greetings from Croatia!!!
Painting those tail lights is "illegal" he said and such an easy way to get a traffic ticket and having to make the lights legal. I guess he did not care about that.
In the UK the trend for blacked out tail lights is to use a pair of black stockings over the lenses so if plod pulls you over you can quickly cut or rip them off and you're back to standard lights without having to spend time removing the black tint with thinners and such. It means that you can quickly be driving again without a ticket.

Ask Scotty, what about a Solstice "falls apart"? I own a 2006 and it's never had a single mechanical problem. Mine has the straight 4 cylinder ( not direct injection like the car in this video ( redline and gxp models ) ). Mine has the 5-speed Aisin AR5 manual transmission ( like Scotty likes ). What doesn't Scotty like? The frame is the best I have ever seen on a car. Tell Scotty to man up and do a video on what specifically he doesn't like in parts?

this is not the only sports car saturn made, they also had the saturn ion redline, heck even the vue redline. And y'all can argue with me on this but the first gen saturn SC2 had a debateably sporty feel to it.
Saturn Sky/Pontiac Solstice = Same chassy and drive train,different shaped body parts, front and rear end, and interior's... Solstice/GXP concept 2002 production-2006-2010-Saturn Sky/Redline 2007-2010 - re-badged for Europe as - Opel Gt in 2007, also in South Korea as Daewoo G2x. Kappa platform came from Vauxhall VX Lightning/Simon Cox and maybe some styling from Lotus Elise. when GM restructured in 2009 they sold the Kappa platform to Spains TAURO and is sold as the TAURO V8 Spider today.... You can slap a LS or 2Jz in these pretty easily or tweek the Sky Redline 2.0 turbo with a few bolt on's and a tune with the stock internals up to 350-400 whp. Kappa cars used parts from the GM parts-bin. Cheap and fun cars to mod.
I owned one of these. I had a 2009. It had about 65,000 miles on it and a little over 90,000 when I traded it. It's a great car. The only issues I had were an oil leak and the radiator fan went out. That was about $1500 combined. I had the factory Monsoon speakers and sub. It sounded great. The only thing missing was a nice, big touchscreen. Letting the top up and down is a process. It's manual. You have to unlatch it and tuck it in the trunk. You can get these on the cheap and I recommend it. I would've kept it and traded my Challenger but my mom loves the Challenger so I traded the Sky.
That’s funny because I had a Saturn, but got rid of it for a Challenger. I had the Ion ‘coupe’ though and while it was a good car, it was beginning to get some very strange (and expensive) issues which made me let it go.
VERY good engine in the car.......155,000 miles and DID NOT burn oil!

Just did some repairs on a Saturn Sky for a customer. It was a "barn find", except that it was left outside and had some wear to the paint and also dents and damage from hail.
My customer was working to restore the paint and I was able to use *Paintless Dent Removal* to take out the hail damage and other dents.

@@silasdogwood8395 That's because they would not do as their American masters (GM accountants) told them and carried on making SAFE cars rather than rebadge Vauxhall/Opels which put the production costs up.

I drove one around for awhile. With a turbo it's VERY fun. Basically a value/budget sports car that was, aesthetically, designed perfectly imo. Mine is at 92k miles with some scapes/dings if anyone is interested in a seriously discounted Sky Redline.

I like the way the stock trunk lid curves up behind the seats. He made the bottom of the back bumper look like a Subaru BRZ. Maybe not very reliable, but as long as he considers it his cash well spent for what he wants. The old Lotus Elan that the Miata and Sky and Solstice copied was horrible for reliability but fun- Jay Leno has a UA-cam video about them.
