Great suggestion! I will focus on seafood a bit more in my next buffet review. This buffet did not have a very big selection of seafood besides different types of fish.
So glad to see the Indian section still on the buffet for lunch and dinner.mHeaded out on the Summit Friday, and can’t wait Thanks so much for this video!!
I agree about the desserts. I love desserts but as with any buffet looks are barely 1/2 the battle. Everything wasn't to my Americanized standard. Like it was missing butter, moistness and actual cream cheese frosting and frosting flavors in general despite looking grandure. I think the desserts they do well are mousse, creme brulee types and any kind of apple streussal type with ice cream. The bread puddings with that white sauce was tasty, too. Cookies aren't bad either. But anything like carrotcake and red velvet stay clear b/c they leave a lot to be desired.
The desserts in the Oceanview are surprisingly bad. Do the bakers never tase their product? Does management never sample? I mean it only takes one bite. They should notice how much goes uneaten.
Most of the food was not salty. There were a few international dishes that tasted a bit salty to me but it could have been the spices they were cooking them with. Generally speaking you can avoid salty dishes easily. Celebrity and RC buffets are very similar. RC has a bigger kids section and a little better bakery. They offer fresh made donuts that were miles ahead of any dessert at the Celebrity buffet. Also a bigger selection of yogurts. Otherwise they are both on par. I did not try room service because it was very limited and came at a cost. I will include the room service review on my next cruise. I am sailing on the Equinox in a few weeks. Stay tuned.
Did a Princess cruise last October. Cruising on Infinity in October. If the food choices are limited in MDR, I am changing my top choice to Princess even though they are also losing there loyal customers lately. I think that I’ll cruise less. Maybe Virgin
I'm sorry to hear you are disappointed. I hope your cruise on the Infinity is great. I am also interested in trying Virgin. I always wanted to see how it compares to Celebrity and others.
Question… going on celebrity ascent for New Year’s Eve which is also embarkation day. What would be your choice for dinner? I am in aqua class so Blu is a choice but they are offering a special New Year’s Eve dinner at the steakhouse for $150 per person. Or something else??? Price doesn’t matter for this special occasion
This is a tough question because I don't know what kind of food you are into. Have you seen my Le Voyage and Eden videos? I suggest watching those as well as my Edge dining review. That will showcase every restaurant on board the Ascent for you. Personally, I would pick either Eden or Le Voyage. Eden has a fantastic menu, along with an open kitchen. Le Voyage is a spectacular French restaurant. FineCut steakhouse is ok but it can't compare to the other two. I would skip the special dinner. Those are rarely worth it. Much rather get Chefs table at that price point.
IMHO, if sailing on a Edge Class ship, I would never sail in Aqua Class or a suite. The food choices on Edge Class ships are outstanding...the 4 Main dining rooms are excellent...I never saw a need to spend extra for food on a Edge class.
That was from the full 1 hour tour of the ship. I included the buffet snip it in here along with the review and other recording. Btw i am really looking forward to hearing about Reflection. I heard a lot of good things. Could you take note of the main dining room, last formal night menu and the buffet? I would love to hear how those rate in the current environment. I hope you both have a great time!

He meant to ask if I am making a video or streaming. I stopped to chat with him and explained that I am doing a video tour. Also explained what a podcast is. I cut it out of here because the vid is already 17 minutes long. Nice catch! You are paying attention. 👍
@@tomsunday oh gotcha! I thought for some reason maybe podcasting wasnt allowed but vlogging is 😅. Btw, I just booked a cruise on celebrity ascent for next august and i've been binging videos about celebrity\edge class. Your videos are great 👌
Just got off the Eclipse. Food was a D/C at best. Buffet was bad, cold, over cooked, dry meats, flys on the food . I will never go back. The staff are very good. Food ahhh no way ..
Enjoyed the video Tom, I'm Elite+ captains club with Celebrity. I agree with you on the dessert s not as good as they look. I've found that the frosting seems to be whip cream in place of a butter cream which in my opinion butter cream is sweeter. As far as the rest of the food In the buffet I find it to be good but I prefer to be served in the main dining room or Blu, Luminae depending which class of service I'm sailing.
I am glad you enjoyed the video, John! Thank you for your kind words. You are spot on with the frosting. I also feel like its made with whip cream. A lot of the frosting tasted very weird to me. Blu is on another level for sure. I feel like its much better. Luminae brings tears to my eyes, its so good! I had a pleasure of having lunch there once. It was life changing! 😋
@@tomsundayWell thank you both for confirming what I had thought...the taste of those desserts just doesnt match the appearance. I found multiple things I loved in the buffet and thought the breads weresl fantastic but I didnt have a single dessert that hit the spot. We stopped taking them because I felt bad wasting them all 😮
We sail the Summit once a year and yes the dessert station is not as good as it looks. I think they use sugar substitute and fondant on the cakes instead of icing. Most desserts are bland and I dislike fondant.
Fluorescent deserts. We were on millennium recently and not at all impressed by the buffet. I find it can’t compare with the quality of our princess cruises. That’s just my personal opinion. Thanks for your videos.
You are most welcome. I am glad you enjoyed the video. I sailed with Princess a few years back and I do remember that the buffet was good. It would be a very interesting comparison. I think the buffet on the Edge class series of ships is a bit better than on the Summit. However I would love to compare both of them to Princess. Did you sail with Princess recently? Any feedback would be highly appreciated. Was the quality better, more choices or something in particular? Thank you for your comment.
@@tomsunday our last Princess cruise was last January on Sky Princess. Food was delicious as always with the buffet having so much variety. Then, in the spring we did a celebrity Millennium cruise and although the food in the main dining room was ok, the food in the buffet was just not appealing AT ALL. Also, on Princess we always book a la cart restaurants, but on Celebrity they are sooo expensive. We’re Canadian btw. The whole cruise on Millennium just convinced us how much we loved Princess who also offer best value. Free huge choice of movies in staterooms for free on Princess but had to pay for a movie on Celebrity. The deserts on Celebrity were not comparable to what we get on Princess! Lol Maybe Celebrity has better food on newer ships.
@nitawal thank you for such a detailed response. I need to try Princess again. You make very good points. Celebrity paid restaurants are very expensive but they are very, very good. Better than most other paid restaurants on competing cruise lines. The buffet and MDR on the Edge class ships are better. I can confirm that. Buffet has slightly more choices. The desserts are still bad, in my opinion. However, the main dining room is split into 4 venues. All included in the base price of the cruise. There are more options with this setup.
