Can't imagine anyone trying to get Marlon Brando, Klaus Kinski and Stanley Kubrick together to film in a jungle, the world would have exploded.

  • @IstNurMeineMeinung

"Judge not, and ye shall not be judged." Kinski said calmly.

Klaus Kinski squeezing a scared monkey until it literally shits on him to get away is the most Klaus Kinski thing ever.

The fact that he yells in German makes it all sound even better.

  • @steffenrosmus9177

Kinski did not play that, he belived he was god in real life.

I think Kinski's portrayal of Aguirre is so iconic in part because he probably shared some psychological features with the man. Real life Lope de Aguirre (1511) was a Spanish (Basque) conquistador that was renowned for being a egomaniacal, homicidal, cruel and downright crazy man. His legacy of exceptional cruelty and violence left deep marks in South America, even today, specially in Venezuela. The part of the movie concerns most with his exploits in Peru in search of the mythical city of El Dorado, where he betrayed and murdered other expedition leaders to try and seek glory for himself. He ended up cruising all the way up the Orinoco river eventually reaching Margarita Island and slaying its governor. On his way west he left a trail of bodies, flames and revolts - was eventually halted near Barquisimeto (mainland Venezuela) where shortly before capture, he executed his own daughter claiming that he felt repulsed by the thought of her bedded by a local (differently of what is shown in the movie). Killed by one of his own men in 1561.

To me Klaus is like an unhinged/demented version of Rutger Hauer.

  • @devonhughes3805

Herzog is a masochist for working with this guy on anything!

  • @aaron6178

Still one of the most remarkable actors in history. His williness to experiment with every aspect of his body, voice etc is at the core of good craft. Nothing more fun than an eccentric, clever, talented and outrageous performer!

Let's not forget about the absolute gangster who cut off his own foot with a chainsaw.

Kinski’s nature is so antithetical to that of Jesus that he can’t help making Jesus sound like Hitler.

  • @jasondauenbaugh9060

His best performances were when he ran out of cocaine for 3 hours.

  • @unsteadyeddy3107

This guy would have made a good Dr. Doom/Victor Von Doom. He has the accent and the personality.
