      I regret ordering this foundation on line that claimed to be the right match and when I try it the color was a shade lighter that my tone and it has holistic acid so my face was very dry with this product because my face is dry already

    Post pandemic, in Romania, in Greece and maybe ever other countries, there are no testers now, so you cant try anything, you just look at the bottle and wish for the best😂

    • @berlineczka
      @berlineczka 3 роки тому +7

      In Poland the clerk asks you which one you want to try and then pump a little of each foundation you want to try on a little plastic tray. You are allowed to touch the tray and apply the foundation to your jaw by yourself, but you cannot touch the testers and the clerks cannot touch you to put the makeup on your face. A tad annoying, but they make it work.
      .
      I bought a new foundation recently (they discountinoued my holy grail!!!) and I wasn't 100% sure about the shade. I bought the whole bottle but the clerk also gave me a small probe of the same shade and told me to use the probe at home and not open the main bottle, because if the shade is wrong I can come and exchange it if it's not opened.

    The inconsistency of shade ranges is so annoying. I just tried YSL Le Teint in my perfect All Hours shade (b30) and Le Teint is like 2 shades darker! I dream one day we will have a universal standard for makeup shades, just like we have for shoe and clothes sizes.

      Have you tried mixing shades and products to come up with a custom color that’s right for you? It’s really helped my frustration with that problem. I was collecting (by default) so many foundations searching for the perfect match. Now I’m having fun mixing and customizing my look. I agree that shades should be universal or standardized in some way. At the same time we each are so unique and have varying undertones as well as degrees of tan that for now mixing seems to make sense. 💖

    • @nissan_skyline
      @nissan_skyline 2 роки тому +4

      @@susanbowman3865 I always end up mixing blue, white, yellow or red mixing pigments into my foundations in order to adjust the undertone since I'm still not sure what my true undertone is after all these years. (I just use the LA Girl Pro Matte Mixing Pigments since they're inexpensive and have a nice formula). Yellow helps to shift the foundation shade to a more golden undertone and blue neutralizes shades that are too yellow. I use white whenever fall and winter rolls around to lighten my foundation, and red to add warmth if the undertone is too cool. I also like to mix these into my concealers to create color correctors. This has saved me so much time and money since I'm no longer exchanging and buying new foundations all the time whenever the shade is slightly off. Additionally, since red, yellow and blue are primary colors, you can just mix all 3 (and white) to make your own custom foundation shade if you have the time and a good understanding of color theory.

      @Jia Khan if you are olive check out diors backstage line. They have multiple olive shades. If you don’t like the texture of it (it’s a bit too matte for me but I mix it with moisturizer or just use a bit of the concealer for reddened areas as I don’t wear foundation often). Anyway i use a bit of light yellow corrector to mix with the Warm Olive2 color to lighten it when it is winter and it’s perfect. Warm olive 3 is perfect in the summer. If you don’t like those foundations but you like the colors then you can have someone at Sephora (or do it online) to find a color match in another line. Took me many years to find these colors. Good luck. Don’t give up!

      @@pappyone6062 aww, yes I have tried the dior backstage and 2wo is a good colour for olives just a little darker for me, but irregardless of colour its too mattifying on my dry skin, I live in the UK and we r not blessed with a sephorah 😭 but anyhow I mix giorgio armani luminous silk in 6 and 4 when I do want to wear foundation, seems to do the trick just a pain buying 2 shades all the time, curse my complexion xx

    • @pappyone6062
      @pappyone6062 3 роки тому +1

      @@jiakhan6958 Ive always had to do the 2 color mix as well. Our complexions make foundation choosing hard but it sure is lovely, especially what happens to it in the sun. It ages well also. I am 52 and get complemented on my skin all the time. I agree that backstage is sooo drying (I have dry skin and live in a dry climate). I will mix it with moisturizer and I lighten the concealer with a touch of Malley light yellow under eye corrector. Mixing makeup shades for everything including blush and lipstick is something I’ve done since my teens. Our skin has a weird need for dark but not too dark colors, and no one makes those. They think if you have any pigment in your skin it has to be very very warm and tan, or that your pale and pink. So I mix them. That is one reason I love cream makeup. Love talking to a fellow olive girl.

When I like a brand or a specific texture of a foundation but can't find the exact shade then I buy two (of the same brand and texture) and mix them together. It has always worked for me. Of course, I also paint so I'm familiar with colors and shade, etc.

    • @alexiamountain
      @alexiamountain 3 роки тому +6

      As she said, you have to try it out in the store, go outside in natural light after you tried it, maybe go home or somewhere else to shop (just to give the foundation some time to sit) and see if it changed a lot since you've applied. Always check in natural light, because artificial light always has a different color, like warm, cool and it doesn't help.

    • @Shaily.kapadia

      Normally the ingredients on the foundation gives a clue. If there's zinc oxide, titanium dioxide in the formula it will oxidize. Most of the matte formula tend to oxidize due to the formula. Hardly any matte foundation is out there in the market which doesn't change color after application or say 1 to 5 hour mark. You can easily pick up foundation sticks especially bobbi brown, makeup forever or tom ford. They don't ever oxidize, gives natural satin look, never breaks apart under vitamin C serum skincare and lasts longer around 12 hours, easy to use, great for younger skin to mature skin. You need to set the makeup with a powder or setting spray if you're in dry climate.

    This kinda traumatiz me a bit Z early 2000s … when I arrived Toronto Canada 🇨🇦 . When I went to try Lancôme or YSL pretty much any time , I ask for Lighter shades ( I know my skin tone , not super pale but not Dark , I am medium yellow )
    D makeup artists Alwyas gave me dirty looks like, as if “how dear u , u r trying to look white ! U r dark Asian !” Like I literally got YELLED when a dude(he/she) out of nowhere screaming at me when I asked for shade lighter , she/he game me 🍊/Caremal color Lancôme full of redness . He was trying to match my darkest tone , but miss out that that’s 3-4 X redness I do not have as Asian . I am green/yellow . I appear to be dark also due to I have natural Dark brown hair ( most ppl don’t understand how Asian don’t have black hair , it’s extremely common Chinese , Korean have Dark reddish/brown hair ) it’s only noticeable if u wear black . D lighter shade of black, 1 darker shade of yellow. Can triger brain 🧠 to have “ Black& blue “ vs “white & Gold “ debate ! ---for an None Asian person , if perceive my Dark red/brown hair as black , n my skin compared to “Black “ , then they would see me as much Darker skinned person . If ppl see me wearing all black outfit . my hair suddenly look 2 shades lighter , I suddenly look more lighter skinned. 😭😭😭😭 so ppl can literally see u in diff shades as the same “ black n blue / white and gold dress “ person to person !
    Like I literally had to request more lighter shades of fundatjonn, n they often “NO No No ! Trust me ! U r darker than u realize ! I don’t think so !” Then as I tried d shade they suggest , it’s like putting brown mud on my face . N they r liek “omg how can this happen 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️! Wow I thought Uber dark cuz u r Asian ! Most white girls use B1-B3 for YSL ! I just think u should automatically go B5 “
    One time I got make over , my Date was like :” u look VERY orange 🍊 sever Sun 🌞 burn 🔥!”
    Know ur own skin tone . Makeup artist r just “crap shoot artist “ their judgement of what SUiTS u is off ! U know yrself !
    I did my own wedding makeup ! Everyone thought 👀 pretty . I feel
    Happy cuz how makeup 💄 look didn’t matter, I enjoy me matters !

    Couldn't agree more about the undertones, hardly anyone is clean cut cool or warm only. A lot of the time, your undertone might be a bit different than your overtone. I'm warm in summer/spring (I develop golden tan) but lean more neutral warm in colder months. If a foundation is very neutral, it tends to translate too peachy on me. All in all, it takes time and if possible try and get samples before committing to a purchase. You might just have to mix 2 shades to make you perfect one. I'm lucky and 1w in Dior is my perfect shade. In summer, I add some 2w depending on how much tan I have picked up. (I tan easily despite putting sunscreen on)

    • @chinanhuang4870
      @chinanhuang4870 3 роки тому +3

      It might be one of four reasons: 1, it's time to exfoliate; 2, put on too much product; 3, the ingredient in the moisturizer has a chemical reaction with the product applied before; 4, massage too hard.

    • @Lighthouse1852

      Some sunscreens and moisturizers are not made for layering under makeup. If you massage them, or put a foundation on top and rub too hard, the silicones start to pill up like pencil eraser bits. If that's the problem, then get some moisturizer samples and find a new one for days when you want to wear foundation.

Would you recommend using an alcohol spray mixture disinfect/clean brushes until the next use? Maybe you can do a lullaby video once the baby is born. Love to hear you sing❣

    I have normal to slightly dry skin, and my favorite is loose powder foundation. I wear a blurring primer + spf underneath and it gives a natural but flawless look. I do have some liquid foundations that I like, but powder foundation is so easy and forgiving. I started wearing it in 2005 and my skin is beautiful now at age 50, I give some credit to the minerals and SPF in the powder foundation I use.
    I saw you using the Il Makiage 100 brush - I have that one too and it’s my favorite liquid foundation brush! :) I like the Il Makiage foundation, but it oxidizes on me a bit so I don’t reach for it often. Prefer the Dior Face and Body foundation.

But get some texture on my cheeks with foundation, and some orange peel around my chin. Can you please advise? Thank you and you look amazing!

    Hi Ali I have a question…
    I’ve been advised by beauty advisors who sell the Hakuhodo makeup brushes that we shouldn’t wash our brushes too often as it will damage the natural hair bristles especially those made with fragile hairs such as goat, horse, badger or squirrel hair. Was told to just wipe them down with a soft cloth and wash them as infrequently as possible. Does this apply to foundation brushes too? Your video terrified me cos I haven’t washed my makeup brushes in months! 😬

    • @AliAndreea
      @AliAndreea  3 роки тому

      Hakuhodo is the most prestigious and the oldest brand for brushes. Of course they think about their brushes as their babies. Yes, if the brush is made to be used for powders, which are usually the natural bristles brushes, then you don’t wanna wash them every day, but once a week should be sufficient. But foundation brushes which are usually synthetic should be washed often. And if it’s a good brush it will last you for years !

    Thank you Andrea! love your tips, I'm always having a hard time finding my perfect match with my olive skintone.. Could you maybe do a video on finding your concealer tone please?

  • @elenip2874
    @elenip2874 3 роки тому +2

    Andreea, thanks so much for this video! I still think that an under-represented skintone is the light olive one. Most foundations recommended to light olive people are either orange (too warm?) or too pink (too cool?!). I’m sure there are viewers out there that would be interested in any advice you have for olive skin tones and matching foundations or mixing them with colours to get a match (olive: including light ones, not only tan people are olive…). I would love to see a video from you on olive undertones - I’m a light olive and it took me YEARS to figure out some spot on matches, most make up artists at Sephora arc counters would match me to very pink toned foundations. Again thanks for the video!!

    • @tayalcu6750
      @tayalcu6750 2 роки тому

      I finally just realized I was going to have to mix my own to get a match. I use a very pale warm foundation, and add yellow foundation and the LA girl blue foundation mixer. My skin is so cool it ends up looking grey. So mixing these 3 together gets me the right level of pale plus the right grey/green undertone.

    I always take my current foundation with me to compare to others! Even if I’m not happy with it. Like if it’s too warm I’ll compare for a color match that’s more neutral. It makes it so much easier! Then you don’t have to waste time and get messy trying it on. Also I’ve taken a tester of my current color/brand and compared it instead of taking my own bottle.

    I wash my brushes every week in a little dish soap and warm water, swished around in a bowl. Then I double rinse in the bowl. Having two sets of brushes are a must, in case the washed ones aren't dry in time.

    Yeah most of my Chinese friends r more pale than a lot of white friends in Canada . They use pale fundation .
    I am EAST Asian like mild medium yellow/green. Whenever I go to get YSL makeup artist , Nord Strom, Sephora ,sakes…. D “specialist “ alwyss:” oh I am white! i get tan , so I am like B2, since ur Asian u r automatically Darker than Dark white ppl u need to go B5 golden brown ! “ I was at YSL flagship store in Canada 🇨🇦 in Saks . Diff times they offered me B5 right off the bat like i am dark orange or something . In fact my skin is no darker than this lady , just less red ! Super annoying cuz I finally fought my way to get BD30! N my face look darker than before application ! N years later I found out I use their B10 or B20 Wtf 🤬. How can they get That much off ! It goes 1-2 darker aft it oxydize too !
    I later found out the most common color Chinese ppl use in mainland China back home is b10 . I was offered b50. Lol 😂. N I don’t try to paint my face pale too lol .

    I always apply my facial products & makeup in my bedroom with natural light coming from a large window. Otherwise, I would not know the true colors and how I appear in daylight. Also, never guess at foundation shade online. You must try on in the store. I have light olive skin w/yellow undertones and Chanel does not have a match for me. My perfect match & consistency is MAC Face & Body shade C3.

    I'm wondering if you recommend to use a light weight foundation on days when we are rushed and doing a very basic makeup. Right now I only wear foundation when I have time to blend and play around. But I'd like to introduce foundation into my daily routine, but I have to be conscious of the amount of time this might take. So should I go light weight in order to have a product that is more forgiving and requires less blending and correcting?
    Merci 😊

    My question is why is it that when I finally found my right undertone, in natural light it looks good, but when I'm under artifical lighting it looks ashen and dead. I was at the doctor and he asked me why I'm so pale and it made me think as in general, under fluorescent light my skin looks quite bad, just greyish white. Am I then using the wrong colour? I've been matched at Estee Lauder, I'm neutral although with a hint of yellow.
