Don’t apologize for delays that came as a result of being hit by a drunk driver. It’s not your fault and the blame does not rest upon your shoulders. Stay safe, and hopefully your recovery is a quick one.
I'm so sorry about the accident, I hope that you recover well and quickly. Feel free to take the time you need with development, your work is all incredibly impressive, and I am sure I speak for the rest of your fans when I say that we are happy to wait for you if it means that you can focus on your health.
I love the map "developing" as your tale does! It makes it so much more clear what is happening instead of just a finished map being presented or created
Yea I love giant atmospheric encounters, Shadow of the Colossus is a big inspiration. It will be more fast paced and action oriented at times but there may be parts when you find your Resin suppressed and have to take a more calculated approach.
First off, don't apologize for being hit by a car! That majorly sucks, dude, and you are entitled to your rest above anything else. As someone who battles spastic paralysis, I have some idea how difficult using a computer can be with motor constraints (people don't realize how many muscles they use until they haven't got the whole set!). Be kind to yourself, and don't push yourself too hard (although I fully understand how crazy the creative itch can drive someone who's having to pace themselves, and being told to "take it slow" isn't necessarily always nice to hear, haha). This is some super cool lore! Your world map is gorgeous, and you hit a really nice tonal vibe with your cosmology and naming conventions (with things like the Sea of Trees, etc.). A lot of writers can easily make the mistake of having all the names be overcomplicated constructs of faux-Elvish (more or less taking inspiration from Lord of the Rings, but forgetting that even Tolkien himself used names as simplistic as The Dark Tower, Black Riders, The Lonely Mountain, not to mention just "the Ring," haha), but you seem to have a good grasp here of how to balance different styles of naming for maximum contrast (a name like Etythia really pops next to something like the God Crystal, and you make good use of combinatory names like Witherlands and Empyrean Spires. Speaking from my experience as a Dungeonmaster, this kind of balance is really important in helping your players remember the real names). The depth of the lore reminds me of a FromSoft game, in the best possible way, and you've done a really nice job building up a dark fantasy setting that maintains enough contrast to keep its shadows actually dark, and which possesses more complexity than just "everything is sadness." Always love to see technology incorporated into a fully fantastical setting, as well. Ultimately, games are art, and your own personal artistic vision takes precedence over whatever a random stranger in an internet comments' section has to say (a reality often lost on well-intentioned offerers of feedback-I find the gaming community too often treats the generous sharing of a gamedev's journey as an opportunity to expound upon a personal wishlist, haha). That being said, if you are interested in feedback, my one note would be (especially since some of your characters are still in the concept art phase) that your female characters might fit somewhat more harmoniously within your chosen aesthetic so far if they reflected a bit more of the generally heavily armoured / robed outfits of your male character designs. A lot of your male characters definitely look kitted out for battle (or else elegantly mysterious) in a way fantasy art sometimes can fail to capture, and it'd be cool to see that reflected in all the characters. Anyway, I always love getting a peek behind the scenes at your work, be kind to yourself and stay awesome!
"I would like to more formally introduce the kingdom's regions, their place in the world, and the spark that ignites your adventure. But before we get there . . . A brief word from our sponsor, NordVPN"
That drunk driver sucks, can't believe there are people in the world that think its ok / can get that drunk willingly. on another note tho: HOLLLLYYYY SIIICKKKKKK!!! omg I am loving the world building so much :DD
Thank you, I definitely took it easy the first month but luckily I won't have to stop. Mostly just appointments and lack of sleep from pain but I'm in a good routine now.
the lore alone wants to make me play the game. I KNOW it's gonna be peak when this comes out! hope you have a smooth recovery take as much time as you need to make it i'm happy you even posted :)
dont let your injury stop you my internet friend lost mobility in his left arm and his hearing in industrial accident some time after he returned from vietnam, still does not stop him prom playing mechwarrior using a mouse with gajilion buttons
I really dropped everything I was doing to watch this video dude I’m a 3D artist I would love to help you make this game Anything to help this game come out even a day faster
Glad to hear you're doing better man! I hope you continue making a good recovery. I also really like the lore! I feel like it would be perfect to be drip-fed with environmental storytelling, like thousands of years of political intrigue are raging in the background meanwhile the player has to figure out piece by piece what's going on
I'm not sure if I missed it, but did you talk about the Aurelith Expance? Also, what happened to the land the Craiddites sailed over from? I noticed that at some point a massive hole appeared where it used to be.
The Aurelith Expanse is the region that the Craiddites rule and also contains the God Crystal. The hole to the South will be touched on in the angel video but it occurred from the Gwaednir attempting to slay an angel. When one dies it lets out a huge nuclear-like explosion and took out a large chunk of the Southern continent.
@@Andre_Sargeant Very interesting! I like your approach to worldbuilding, starting with a setting and letting events play out within it and seeing how they change it.
I just played the demo - this is some of the crispest gameplay I've seen in a while. Do you plan on having the player start with every movement ability or introduce them gradually to let players get accustomed to each facet?
There will be a brief introduction and some smaller bonus moves unlocked from story or equipment but generally you will have a lot of your movement available after the intro. The first region will be very approachable though so you will be able to get your bearings by the time you need them.
Man, to think that one of my favorite indie devs was almost taken out by a drunk driver. It makes you think about all the other devlog series where the creator stopped uploading. Maybe they just weren't as lucky as Asarge.
Dude this looks awesome. Some really really cool ideas here, i particularly like your take on dwarves, it's very unique. I havent seen anything quite like that before. I do have some critique, but this is in no way an attack on you personally, especially in regards to an in development work. You've named 3 female characters, and they all seem sexualized to one degree or another. The young princess in particular, i find it unusual how much skin she shows, given her position, and especially when compared to how her viziers and magistrates look. There is nothing wrong with characters choosing to dress a certain way, but not every female character should do so and it shouls fit their personality and environment. I would also be careful to avoid Orientalist and sexist tropes (not saying you have just there are some common pitfalls in the elements you've introduced). Ceridwen seems based on a belly dancer to some degree, and shows a lot of skin. This is not necessarily problematic, but just keep it in mind when you develop more about her. Bellydancing in many works, especially orientalist depictions of India and the Middle East, exists for the male gaze. Think about that, and if you want to subvert it or lean into it or ignore it or whatever. Also the Queen being portrayed as a manipulative seducer of a powerful, righteous man is a common misogynistic trope. You using the trope is not inherently bad, but again, something to keep in mind. I want to reiterate, I do not think you or your work is being racist or sexist, intentionally or otherwise. There are just some elements that give me pause and should be handled with care and acknowledgement of the history of those tropes. Hope your recovery goes well, sorry that happened to you.
Surprisingly generic. I don't know why amateur fantasy always includes a fictional land with a "val" prefix, when it always sounds weird and bad. Great gameplay and artwork, but this just looks like "Shmelden Shming," if you catch my drift. Considering how many soulslike wannabes with world-centric rather than character-centric writing there are on Steam, I'd consider going *really* all-in on something unique about your specific world, and adding a unique story. Which, if this *is* a soulslike, is 100% necessary in order to stand out among the flood. Leading with, "there's this X material that grants power, but at a cost!" is video game plot #500126. And, from a ludonarrative standpoint, considering your character is soaring through the air and doing a bunch of parkour antics while shooting giant enemies with a gun and throwing a boomerang sword, going with "grounded political tensions" as the motivator for most of the worldbuilding and plot seems, to me, like a massive tone clash. Something with the movement system you're cooking up is better suited for a bombastic, energetic, even lighthearted world. Not Marvel-esque, of course, because nobody wants that - it's not "irreverence," but enthusiasm. The plot might make more sense if it was about exploring new lands, given the emphasis on traversal, in addition to being a generally more hopeful, future-thinking, "launching into the unknown" tone that would mesh better with the gameplay. You wouldn't need to do much more for that, seeing as how you already built out a continent.
my god the amount of work that went it to this is clearly visible, incredible work as always
Thanks Simon, you as well!
Came here from your recommendation. A great video, and I am also a huge fan of what you do!
Don’t apologize for delays that came as a result of being hit by a drunk driver. It’s not your fault and the blame does not rest upon your shoulders. Stay safe, and hopefully your recovery is a quick one.

I love living in a era where a solo dev or a small team can create games that align with many of my interests. Dude, keep the amazing work!
I'm so sorry about the accident, I hope that you recover well and quickly. Movement is Peak; Looks Fun, and You are going for that Shadow of Colossus type of encounters?
Yea I love giant atmospheric encounters, Shadow of the Colossus is a big inspiration. It will be more fast paced and action oriented at times but there may be parts when you find your Resin suppressed and have to take a more calculated approach.

Hope your doing well after the incident, you can take your time to heal even if it means stopping developing
