Sad we will not get to see the finished restoration, but there is no shortage of lovely old plantation homes here in the south. I look forward to you finding your next diamond in the rough for a true restoration. I love when people love a place enough to preserve our history by restoration instead of dreadful modern renovations.
Your house was built in a sequence opposite to one in my neighborhood. The original was a simple Cape style, and a century later, when the family became somewhat wealthy, they attached a two-story Federal period house in front of it.
I love seeing someone who does research, and is a perfectionist in restoring an old house. I learned a lot in your explanations of why you chose a particular method of restoring it back in a way that was compatible with modern and classical preservation techniques.
would love to see a walk through of your finished house! From start to finish. From the front door to the end. Hallways and stairs too. No stopping. I'd rather see all of the house instead of just the rooms. So fun to feel like I'm actually walking through the house myself! Thanks for sharing!
More home restorations please, I was so excited to see what was going to happen with the house. That’s okay though I’ll stay on board for this next chapter, until y’all find another old house to love 💕
One of your vids popped up on my feed a few days ago (I have a fascination with wonderful old houses) and, after watching that first episode, I subscribed because you both seem like nice, regular folks, no gimmicks, and I related to you. I fell in love with your beautiful home and I want to share in your journey to restoring it. I'm as fascinated by the mechanical aspects as I am with the charming woodwork and decorative details. Thank you for sharing your home life with us!
About the kitchen, you should REALLY check out a channel called "Farmhouse Vernacular". They are restoring a Victorian farmhouse, and did a really beautiful kitchen. Also, I think, that maybe the addition was built as a house for the parents, when the property was passed on to the next generation.
Yeah, I love Paige on Farmhouse Vernacular. Now there is a woman who does her research on style and renovation, and she and her husband do most of the restoration themselves.
I just discovered your channel and have watched all of your videos. The video on historic masonry repair was very informative and I'm sure I'll refer back to it when I'm ready to start my own repairs. You asked what we would like to see more of, how about a tutorial on plastering a wall? If it's not too much trouble to make a mock wall, that video could be filmed without a actual house. Just a thought.
Yes, would love even if you can't get started on another house right away, perhaps you can visit historic homes and structures and explain the building process and your impressions of their finishes. Good luck to you!
I love your honesty and intelligence. The fact you’re not professionals and explain in layman’s terms as to how you tackle each each job is inspiring. It’s wonderful to watch even though I have no intention of ever restoring a house !
Best of luck in your new chapter. I would love to see your house search and it would be fun to learn some of the history of your new area. Thank you for honouring the 1834 house.
Your channel is amazing! Please put add on your channel so we can support you! And the extra money you can better antiques materials and get your wife, her pocket doors.
Hi from Australia, found your channel, started watching and totally love it. Such a beautiful property. You are so dedicated to bring it back to its former glory. Looking forward to watching all the next videos to see progress.
People love looking at old homes, seeing them renovated, or modernized. We get ideas and just dream, LOL. Hope your channel can continue. Take us along on the adventures of hunting, renovating, designing just all that good stuff!! 😊
Oh no! I just found you a couple weeks ago! You are my dream DIY'ers - articulate, pleasant, intelligent, technical, and detail-oriented. Being married to an engineer and having worked several years at a world-class college of engineering, I guessed immediately you must be an engineering executive! I hope whatever you do, you will bring all the same skills and talents to your channel. I appreciate the thoughtful effort you put into researching restoration methods to combine the best of of each. We do the same on our old house. I have often been frustrated by the lack of detailed information available in magazines and DIY shows. I too have enjoyed watching UA-cam blogs from Europe. They are inspirational and informative.. Please don't abandon your channel. Take us along for the new house hunt and restoration, if that is what you do. You have tremendous potential! In the meantime, check out another YT channel I discovered about the same time I found you - "Second Empire Strikes Back.". I recommended to the owner that he watch your boiler episode. Best wishes for your new adventure, and for a Happy New Year. I look forward to you sharing more content. Thank you.
Please find an older house to redo, keep looking I know you will find a house you will fall in love with. There are many historical homes in the south, the only thing that would scare me is termites. Love your videos and I know you will find your new state to be much cheaper than NY taxwise. (I am a former upstate NYer)
OK, NOW that makes sense -- the 2nd Empire reno -- that explains the arched and very heavy front doors; I thought there was no way that was an 1830 thing.....which I assume would have been more Georgian or federalist.....simpler double doors with an arched fanlight....I would love to be in your house in summer with the windows open and a double screen door on the front door allowing air to waft throughout. You have scads of room, so definitely a music room is fine. You could also have a conservatory, billiard room, library -- like the game of Clue. Ha, ha. Interesting that you want to convert back to radiators....glad you like your boiler system....stick with it. Yeah, in my parents's 1958 house we had forced air, which kept the house warm but definitely felt drafty because of the moving air. Here in our 1980's house we have forced air heat and AC. With added exterior wall insulation blown in, and thick hurricane windows, our house is cozy and comfortable and it makes a huge difference in less sound transference in the street. It is VERY quiet inside the house. To each his own. The only type of vintage house near us are some Mediterranean style homes and a few large vintage wood homes in Winter Park, probably from the '20s or 30s. There are also a few arts and crafts bungalows downtown, which is my favorite style of home. Oh, no, I can't believe you are selling this house! Egads. I am sure you will find a buyer who loves the house as you do. I hope you can find a vintage house in SC to feed your renovation appetite! Thanks for sharing your home renovation.
I hope you find lovely old house in S. Carolina to restore; meanwhile, perhaps until you buy a house you can take us on video tours of old estates or old mansions in your new area. I would love to view that on UA-cam. Good luck!
You two are amazing! My hubby and I want to purchase an older home, and I'm collecting videos that can be useful for future reference. We love to do projects together like you guys. You are an inspiration to us! ❤
Perhaps the second house was added as a mother-in-law suit or assisted living for parents who requested privacy but in reality needed the semi-assistance?
Oh, such a shame it’s over before it really began. I think some tour of your area, surrounding areas, houses and such would be nice. You both have a pleasing temperament about you. You could probably read a book and I’d listen. Merry Christmas. Hope the channel continues to grow!!
You are a great teacher of pretty much everything home related. Not sure if you have a shop there but maybe showing some of your skills in that area would be good.
You two are such lovely people, and so relaxing to watch. (The Mr. Has a voice that is so relaxing to me, almost like an ASMR video!🥰) I love to listen to him explaining things. May God bless you both in the coming new year❤️🙏 Washington State USA 🎄
Thank you for wanting to keep your channel going. As others have said, you do an excellent job of explaining what you are doing and why. Your suggestion of showing sites in your new area, is something I would be interested in. Merry Christmas!

I just came across your channel. I love what you're doing with the house. You both seem to be really nice people, so down to earth. 😊 I hope you will keep making videos as I have loved them so far.
Or maybe they intended to have pocket doors and for some reason it didn't happen it seems they could be added with the view that you have seen. Would be Extravagant ! GOD has Blessed you with a BEAUTIFUL Home. ty for sharing with us. 😇
Well, find a new 1834 house to restore, I guess. Maybe make videos documenting the selection process all the way through to completion. I'm sure it was kind of a bummer to have your channel blow up after you'd moved on from the project.
I would love for you to buy an 1875 Victorian house, and restaure it, and/ or decorate it genuinely. I am fascinated by the Victorian era and admire your committed passion for your project. I follow other channels with Victorian cooking, history, etc. Tip: there are electric or gas Victorian stoves available. Victorian appearance only, with modern functionality. All the best with your new start.
Love your videos. You both have a great way of explaining things and it's so enjoyable to watch. Honestly you could make a video about how to boil water and I'd watch it!
I've appreciated what you've done to the house so far; it restores my faith in how ordinary folks, w/ a bit of knowledge, and a willingness to take time, can do loads of things in resto-remodels. My first home, in Seattle, was a very modest, one bedroom "millworker's cottage", built in 1925. Over the next 7 years, I taught myself to do all the electrical work (from the service panel out), installed a furnace (given to me by my real estate agent) (including gas-piping, ductwork, chimney liner, etc.--in the days it was legal to do such things as a "DIYer"), replaced windows, the roof, did flooring work, and began to convert the attic into a loft, plus remodel the bathroom. It was quite exhausting (I worked full-time at Boeing), but rewarding. By the time I sold it in 2003 (for about twice what I paid for it!), it still needed many things, and the current owner has done a nice job of doing these other updates (esp. the kitchen)...Would love to do another one, money permitting (and energy; I have plenty of time, being semi-retired); we have many historic homes, reasonably-priced w/ fairly modest property taxes, here in Oberlin, Ohio, including ones like yours, but w/out the Mansard third story roofline. Where was this house located? I'm guessing Michigan for some reason (reasonable prices, high property taxes--but that can also apply to parts of NY State). I would hope to see the two of you acquire another historic property in S. Carolina for a restoration project! Best Wishes for the new adventure, and Happy Holidays!
Nooooooooo! Don’t go. 😫 But I understand, things change and you can’t stand still in life, you have to keep moving. Thank you for all the hard work you’ve done on the house. Watching the house slowly regain its former beauty is very rewarding and oddly satisfying. Thank you once again, love from 🇨🇦
Oh I just found you two! I wish you good luck in whatever you do. If you decide to continue with youtube, I wouldn’t mind touring historical home and sites
I was going to comment days ago that you must be a teacher or an engineer. You are so easy to listen to and I love getting the details. My husband is a retired contractor and we met after we were both widowed and have been married 5 1/2 years. We are on our 3rd house. He moved to Calif to be with me. He hated Central Ca because of no rain and poor air quality. We moved to Hickory NC and soon after he needed unexpected knee replacement. Too cold so we are now near Jacksonville Fl. This is hopefully our last house to fix so I have to dream of having a historic house thru you folks. Other youtubers have said exactly what you have. They had hardly any growth and suddenly exploded with new subscribers. Because I subscribe to other home restorers your channel showed up as a suggestion from youtube. I loved your content and subscribed. Please buy another fixer so we can see more. We don't celebrate Christmas so here I am watching people remodel and loving it. Best Wishes, Kay
Oh no I was So Much Looking Forward to seeing the finish work You Certainly do Beautiful work. Its sad to know that your leaving you both seem so much apart of this home almost like it Found You. GOOD LUCK IN YOUR SEARCH FOR ANOTHER HOME And thank you for what you did Share with Us. And yes Please keep up the Restoration progress that your New home has Waiting for you. Gods Speed and Protection. 🙏😇
I love my boiler heat in my 1918 home! Everyone looks at me like I'm crazy when I say I prefer it to forced air but there really isn't anything better. So sad to hear you have relocated but I wish you all the best in your new adventure. Merry Christmas!
I sure hope you folks get your hands on another similar type of old place. I've genuinely enjoyed your channel, you seem like great people and you do outstanding work.
Because it’s very difficult to travel right now, how about day trips of old homes, areas in different towns. History, especially styles of homes. I grew up military and was always in awe over the places my Father took us and how many things I learned. I still prefer Europe but am now understanding the relationship between the Europeans and American histories. I lived in Georgia, N. and S. Carolina, Virginia, Missouri, Kansas and Iowa. Travelled through many more! That doesn’t include the Western States or Europe. I see how the American homes have been built compared to and including how it’s related to the European ones. Very similar, yet different! Did you know our American forts were associated with the Wooden Castles from Europe. Then they decided to place the lime mortar on to strengthen and keep the weather from entering. Now today, it’s just the norm to make a frame, then stucco or brick.
People who have "more money than they know what to do with" are the types you see on "Property Brothers." I like your work ethic and your practical approach to the work on this old beauty! Thank you for answering questions, but be prepared - there'll always be more in the future! 😉
I recently found your Channel & have loved watching you both! So genuine & down-to-earth, is it possible that you're from the Midwest? I'm a lifelong Iowa resident & lover of old homes, architecture & historical finishes/details. Will continue to follow along with future content. Best wishes as you set down roots in SC.
This is an awesome channel so far I’ve been really enjoying it I think taking us on the journey of you finding your new home in the Carolinas that would be a lot of fun and then it kind of gives us the viewers that idea we kind of helped you pick your new home.I really can’t wait to see what you guys pick for your new home and hopefully we can watch you restore it
More home restorations. I love hearing about the history of how things were done back in the day, and why they did it that way. Thanks to all that research you guys do. I live in and have been restoring a 1890s house myself. Most of it has been removing the newer layers and cleaning and patching the original. I just started watching your channel and am hooked, so keep up the good work!
Love South Carolina! But what part? I am anxious to see what you are looking at...what you like, where you go! Especially if you find great places you have been very impressed by! I've been looking for areas that would be suitable for retirement, and trying to convince my husband it's the time to start putting pins in the map!
Merry Christmas 🎄 loved the house my basement needs that same thing done to the walls don't know if we're up to the task Please take us on your journey of finding your new home
Hi, it's great to see your channel being promoted. It's not easy to video work because it can slow you down quite a bit so much appreciated. I'm not sure how generous people are with donating for this can of thing but perhaps a patreon may be a good idea. I've never used it or even donated on it, but some people do so it may be worth it. All the best.
Well this is why I should finish a video before I comment. It's sad this chapter is ending but every step is a stone and you're just on your journey like we all are.
I would love to see continued home restoration! Are you comfortable saying which part of SC you've moved to? Sorry if I missed it... I live in the Greenville area and am curious what the historical context is of your new area. 😊
@@1834RestorationHouse nice!! Welcome to the area! It's a wonderful place to live! We are originally from near Asheville, NC and have lived in Greenville for around 8 years and love it.
Sad we will not get to see the finished restoration, but there is no shortage of lovely old plantation homes here in the south. I look forward to you finding your next diamond in the rough for a true restoration. Historic House hunting, historic site seeing. Y’all explain things so well it would be a shame to not pass on your knowledge
Please take us along as you visit historic places in your new area and then please take us along as you prepare to find your new home.
Find another house to work on after you sell. You have been so fun to watch and we learn new things each time. Find an interim place for now.
would love to see a walk through of your finished house! From start to finish. From the front door to the end. Hallways and stairs too. No stopping. I'd rather see all of the house instead of just the rooms. So fun to feel like I'm actually walking through the house myself! Thanks for sharing!
Its wonderful to see two very intelligent people restoring a classic home!
Thank you for sharing your home life with us!
Same here. I said the same thing to my family while we were watching on UA-cam. He’s a natural narrator.
cgg105 I agree with you. They are such down to earth people.
Please do An EP-7 featuring a tour of your accomplishments. Thank you.
About the kitchen, you should REALLY check out a channel called "Farmhouse Vernacular". They are restoring a Victorian farmhouse, and did a really beautiful kitchen. Also, I think, that maybe the addition was built as a house for the parents, when the property was passed on to the next generation.

Oh my small world. I live and was born in SC. Enjoyed the Q & A's very much. Thank you for the update! Best wishes on the new job and move.
Another restoration ... Show us around your new digs ... Let us go shopping with you for that new/old house😊
Yes, would love even if you can't get started on another house right away, perhaps you can visit historic homes and structures and explain the building process and your impressions of their finishes. Good luck to you!
Welcome to Greenville! This city has so much to offer. I hope you find another historic home to renovate.

The first time I turned it on I was shocked at house fast the house warmed up.
I sure hope you folks get your hands on another similar type of old place. I've genuinely enjoyed your channel, you seem like great people and you do outstanding work.
Best of luck to both of you!
Save a house in South Carolina! How did they stay cool in those days? That would be very interesting!
A historic district historic home!
Ask a Chimney sweep to clean, and inspect them. He will tell you what you need to know.
You're doing it the right way - thank you!
You are such a lovely couple. May God bless you as you work together on your home 😊 I love the house you have certainly brought it back to life.
This is an awesome channel so far I’ve been really enjoying it I think taking us on the journey of you finding your new home in the Carolinas that would be a lot of fun and then it kind of gives us the viewers that idea we kind of helped you pick your new home.I really can’t wait to see what you guys pick for your new home and hopefully we can watch you restore it
I am so sad that you are selling this home😩
What happened?
Like others have commented, would love to see the process when you are ready to look for another home. Best of luck to you.
Tour historic homes in your area and give commentary as you go through. Thanks for the videos, I have really enjoyed following along.
Welcome to the channel! This stuff is truly a labor of love.
Love South Carolina! But what part? I am anxious to see what you are looking at...what you like, where you go! Especially if you find great places you have been very impressed by! I've been looking for areas that would be suitable for retirement, and trying to convince my husband it's the time to start putting pins in the map!
I love your home the restoration, Merry Christmas and God Bless
Merry Christmas 🎄 loved the house my basement needs that same thing done to the walls don't know if we're up to the task Please take us on your journey of finding your new home
This was a fun series to binge over Christmas for me. Thanks for the show!
House hunting and thought in what else you want to buy.
What is your background? How do you know how to do all this?
More videos please! Love this house!
Do another house PLEASE! Love the videos so far and the knowledge shared
Sad you're leaving but you got to do what you got to do ! Maybe asks new owners if they would add a UA-cam show to continue where you left off .
Merry Christmas!! Please please please keep those videos coming. I am loving your videos.
Love the program. You are doing an amazing job on a real gem of a house.

What is this house listed for?
I would love to see continued home restoration! Are you comfortable saying which part of SC you've moved to? Sorry if I missed it... I live in the Greenville area and am curious what the historical context is of your new area. 😊
Greenville.
1834 Restoration House Where was the old house? Did you move south because of weather.
@@1834RestorationHouse nice!! Welcome to the area! It's a wonderful place to live! We are originally from near Asheville, NC and have lived in Greenville for around 8 years and love it.
Where is this house?
I just found your channel on Christmas Eve (last night) and I am already addicted😙
Does anyone have a link to Ep7?
It's not on my feed.
And is there a Ep on the finshed house before it was sold?.
EP-7 was a promotion for an upcoming livestream that has already happened so EP was deleted. The finished house was detailed in EP-5.
@@1834RestorationHouse hahaa that answers all my questions.
