Love this radio episode!! was nice to listen to and relax after a VERY long day in the kitchen making Christmas cookies and pies.. Thank you for posting it, much appreciated!
Sometimes you just need wholesome, naïvely innocent entertainment. But the thing that caught my ear was the fact that even during the time period that we today think of as the most iconicly-Christmas focused era thought that it was commercialized.
Never knew that Father Knows Best was a show that made the transition from radio to TV; always thought it just started as a TV show. Thank you for this episode; I guess they thought that the spirit of the season was already on its way to being lost 65 years ago.
I'll look for that first year of the show on DVD. I have the 1956 season on DVD, and it's a good thing I did because the '56 season contained an episode that I remembered seeing from back at the time when the show was in its first series of reruns, and the particular episode starred Billy Gray; I could remember the basic plot but couldn't remember how it turned out. Thankfully the DVD refreshed my memory.
so it was a radio show! the mom is actually part of decisions, not a “yes, dear” person! dad isn’t a god. that bothered me even as a kid. but it was loved by many girlfriends of mine as it was a warm family circle to be a part of once a week.
Some people have a tradition with very young children to put them to bed with the house looking normal so that when they wake up next morning, the tree and presents have magically appeared ! To each his own - your traditions aren’t everyone’s!
I love 💕 this show.
I crochet in the evenings and I find that it’s much nicer to listen 👂 to radio 📻 shows than it is to watch TV 📺.
Great way to work on your hobbies without having to stare at a screen and get distracted.

Oh, I know about the Christmas cookie baking. Fam is going nuts with it right now. Ha!

Yeah, I noticed that, too. I wonder when folks started to actually notice this about the Christmas season.
I sure liked this. Thanks, OTR.
Awesome!
I saw this a couple of times. They made a wonderful show out of this...... one of my favorites.
Good Holdiay show for the time!

Yes, it was originally a radio series from 1949 through '54 (and sometimes a bit "sillier" than the TV version).
This script was adapted into the first Christmas TV episode a year later.

Christmas old time radio shows
So many classic television shows were first radio programs. I love Lucy, father knows best, George Burns and Gracie Allen…
This brings back my mom's childhood memories. Thank you.
No Problem!
Perfect story. Thank you.
Yes! Thanks!
1953...my first Christmas!
Merry Christmas
Simply relaxing...
Who the hell would give this a thumbs down ?
There is always one person! Power of the internet!

Really don't hear many people use it anymore.
Christmas Eve and they don't have the tree up?
