I know it's been a few years but were coming up on that time of year again. Last year we watched this, and went with the Butterball fryer because we wanted oil and simplicity/safety. I went with a cajun butter rub/injector and DAMN did it come out amazing. It came out juicy with crispy skin and the Cajun rub really set it apart from the boring old bird. I would highly recommend the Butterball fryer for your first deep fried turkey project. It felt much safer, no open flame, fully contained so it can't tip over and the basket made putting it in and taking it out so much easier. I watch this video every year lol. I have the master built and I use it for everything when it comes to big cooks and frying. Family fish fry, turkeys, wings, everything. Best purchase I’ve ever made. Both of my uncles and a few close friends of mine have purchased since I’ve watched this video and started using it years ago.
Sam talking about how he doesn't understand how the infrared cooker works and his amazement at it is so honest and hilarious and the most relatable thing about him. It's the reason I have watched so damn many of his videos, even though I will probably not make 90% of the food he cooks.
I have the Butterball deep fryer and it gets the job done. I inject the turkey with Creole Butter and then season it with Creole seasoning, smoked paprika, black pepper, onion and garlic powder then cook it at 375 degrees. It also does a amazing crab or crawfish broil. I picked it up on Black Friday a couple of years ago for $70. Best part about it is that you can use it indoors so rain does not stop you.
I’ve used the Big Easy from Charbroil for about 6 years. Many turkeys, chickens, ribs, wings, and prime ribs. Never failed me yet. Always great flavor, moist and tender, and NO OIL TO DUMP! Of course, no fire danger, either. Best choice, IMO!
lol, my aunt gave me one of those oil-less infrared fryers. I thought it was an oil fryer. gotta check that out now. glad i didn't try to fill it with oil!!
@Jamie Sanderson Deep fried in peanut oil is the only way to go. I'm frying turkeys for three of my friends Thanksgiving day - I've been doing this for years as they are too scared to do it themselves. My record is seven turkeys fried on Thanksgiving day three years ago. Started at sunrise that morning and fried the last one around 4 pm.
Another great video by Sam and gang, always like the everyday cook vibe. The rain in this one was I know not expected but brilliant nonetheless. You don’t get that on any other cooking show! Keep up the great work, I’ll keep watching

@@GLUTENX, if your willing and able to do the initial investment, the butterball deep fryer does work great. Fairly easy to use and only thing you need to buy is oil every year. Great for other frying also.
@@csview8936 the electric one right? I was eyeballing that one because god knows I don’t have space for the propane jet engine (as much as I’d love it lol)
My name is Maurice McCray and I am a retired Army Vet(Disabled). I use the propane deep fryer. I have used it for about 15yrs and I love it. It has turned out fine except for the first two attempts. The turkey turns out juicy and evenly seasoned.
Having fried turkeys for years downhere in south Louisiana... this is one of the most hilarious turkey videos I've ever seen... well done Sam & Max... well done!!!
I’ve tried them all and can say I like my big easy the best. You don’t have to get rid of old oil and clean up is a breeze! I have done turkeys, boston butts, nashville chicken, and a 7 bone prime rib in it!! The more you use it the better you like it 👍🏻
I’m right there with you. I have cooked it every way and I love the big easy. I need to order an new drip tray for mine but other than that it’s great!
I bought that exact electric fryer and I will be using it for my first fried turkey for Thanksgiving. I filled it with water yesterday and submerged the bird while still in plastic. That way I know exactly how much oil to use to cook evenly. I'm excited!🤗
This year marks the first time I have ever cooked at Thanksgiving for my family- and do you think I was tasked with the mashed potatoes or pumpkin pie? No. I was in charge of the turkey. So, after some research, I went and bought 4 gallons of tuely frying oil, and propane deep fryer, and dry-brined a 15lb bird in kosher salt. The end result was so crispy, tender, and delicious! Thank you @SAM THE COOKING GUY Your material is top-notch and while I haven't physically tried many of your recipes, I plan to in the near future.
And the ButterBall is designed for INDOOR cooking. It is electric, so it won’t ignite the oil and burn the house down. If anything, it is more dangerous used outdoors, in the rain. Also, it has a thermostat to keep the oil at the proper temperature. The skin color and juiciness difference between the two oil fryers is due to the time and temp they cooked at. The traditional method has to be tended and adjusted to keep a stable temp, while the electric fryer does that for you.
i've had the oil-less charbroil for years and it's amazing and easy. turkey's are delicious. have also cooked prime rib, shish kebabs, and ribs in it... all great.
@cokebeard I'm catching this video a year after you, but was wondering your experience in the oil-less...do you find turkey to be really only 10 minutes a pound because his looked a little raw in spots.
I've had my Char Broil Big Easy for probably 10 years and it always produces a moist tasty bird. Put the lid on it towards the end and you will get a nice brown crispy skin. I'm also a wet brine guy, 5 gallon bucket with with a brine mix and heavily iced water covered with a towel and placed in a cool place. Perfect EVERY time. Keep up the great videos, entertaining and informative.
I started deep-frying turkeys a few years back. I’ve done 5 now I think. People have consistently told me it’s the best turkey they’ve ever had, even people who are die-hard traditionalists and we’re apprehensive. Propane with big pot. Comes out juicy as hell if you remove it at the right time and get the right size bird.
Seen an episode of ddd where a guy made a waffle out of stuffing added mash potatoes turkey and gravy on top with cranberry sauce on the side, looked bad ass
I love my Big Easy oil-less fryer. This year, I'm going to put the Turkey in my smoker at low temperature for about an hour to get that smokey flavor, then place it in the oil-less fryer to finish it up and crisp the skin.
Shareka Lassiter Sparks it was absolutely the best turkey I’ve ever had. So moist and juicy. I highly recommend this method. I have a Rec Tec pellet smoker, put it in for 1.5 hours at low/extreme smoke setting, then into oil-less fryer until 165 IT.
Chad Winters I spent about $70 on oil for 6 gallons. But it was worth every penny when I heard everyone say this is the best turkey they ever had! I also did the propane and oil setup.
When I started frying 20 years ago, 5 gallons of peanut oil was about $16. Now it’s typically between $25-30 for 3.5 gallons of peanut/soy blend and I have to buy 2 because 3.5 isn’t enough to fry an 18 pound bird. Still worth the money but I usually take care of my oil and try to fry 2-3 turkeys a year. HAPPY THANKSGIVING 🦃
I know this old but I loved the catastrophe because of the rain and how you all adjusted....I deep fried a Turkey for years and then I moved to high country and could not get my oil hot enough to fry because of the cold weather....I eventually moved the fryer into the garage under constant supervision.....nothing wrong with Thanksgiving at midnight Lol....I thought it was my best because of the fact we all were there as a family and that is all that matters!!!!
Middle by far best looking. Bought this old school set up off FB this last weekend. Frying a turkey for the first time ever this year. Have been talking about it for YEARS!
I'm doing three turkeys Thanksgiving as my military kids and there friends are coming this year. One electric deposit fry using the Master Built, regular oven and a Treager smoked turkey. Can't wait for next Thursday. 🦃
Iv been doing the deep fry turkey about 20 yrs now and have never looked back...it Def is the best tasting and juiciest way 2 cook....and iv had the Butterball Xl deep fryer about 5yrs...and its safer and easier than propane...Love It 😁👍
I've deep fried quite a few turkeys, not commercially but for friends, family and myself. I'm up to at least 150 or so. I always use the original, traditional pot and Big open flame. First... #1 Safety rule for me. Keep the kids away. Its a holiday and everyone wants to have a good time and the last thing you need are kids running around with a giant pot of boiling oil. #2 Keep alcohol to a minimum while cooking. Ok, back to the good part. Many people don't like the dark meat, but I do along with my wife and others. When you let the legs just spread wide open like a gymnast doing the splits, the legs and thighs and sometimes part of the breast can easily get over cooked and dried out. I always..Always inject my turkeys. I use the creole butter flavor. Also, I always get a piece of wire and tie the legs together. I check the positioning on the rack so the legs will be on the side of the upright that allows the legs to be positioned high on the breast, keeping it from getting too much oil circulation around them...protecting them from over cooking. Note... You mentioned the dryness needed when putting the turkeys in the hot oil. Like I said, I always inject mine. So, they are not dry. I do however use a cajun/creole seasoning or rub. After injecting, I put the turkey on the rack and put a lot of the dry seasoning all over it and let it sit while the oil comes up to temp. This seems to allow much of the outer liquids to drip off and if you have the proper oil level, it gives you a fairly safe process. I also highly recommend a turley no larger than 14 or 15 pounds. Too big and you get too much meat that is over cooked, because the outer parts are just exposed to the hot oil too long. Good luck. Be safe.
Is there a temperature you shoot for or any other tips? I got the honor of doing most of the cooking this year since my grandparents are going to stay home and social distance. I’ll take any extra help I can get 👍
@@fredluden2298 I would not go larger than 14lbs. Also pat dry before placing in the fryer. I inject mine as well as it is more flavorful than brining alone.
The butterball turkey fryer is weak. When the turkey is submerged, the temperature of the oil drops, and the fryers heating element isn't powerful enough to bring it back up to temp.
Not sure if its a must, but was encouraged to season the inside of the IR Big Easy Fryer with oil/butter for 15min prior to cooking a Turkey, also to put lid on at the end of the cooking process. Great comparisons and video, much thanks.
Been using the Butterball fryer for around 10 years. Couple tips; it's actually designed for indoor use, when used outside the oil doesn't get as hot. I use mine in the garage. Extension cords can also take away from how hot the fryer gets. Very easy to use, just verify temperature of the bird before you take it out.
Love the Charbroil Big Easy Oiless Infrared fryer. On my second one. Turkeys are no fuss and at Christmas cook a Ribeye Roast in it. Love it! Great video, thanks for sharing!
When we first bought ours I thought this thing is probably going to be gimmicky. Boy was I wrong. I use it all the time. My kids love the chicken from the cooker. You'd think it was candy or something.
I just found the whole set up for a propane deep fryer. I had to buy a new hose for the burner but it was only twenty bucks. I can’t wait to try it. It looks amazing good.
Great video! All three seem to be good choices if done right depending on your taste and desire to cook with or without oil. Thanks for being so real and doing all the research so we don't have to! This is definitely worth a big thumbs up and plenty of shares. 👍😁
I love my electric deep fryer, I have the same one from this video. Best tip I found is to make sure to lower the basket EMPTY into the hot oil for about 30 sec to a min before putting the turkey in the basket. That way your turkey doesn't stick.
Sam, thanks for doing this video. I appreciate it. I'm a Charbroil "Big Easy" user and I've never had a bad bird come out of that Infra-red cooker. It takes propane, but i believe it's one of the safest ways to get that deep fried taste without the mess and danger.
I use the Masterbuild electric fryer (same as Butterball). This thing is magnificent. Once you clean and dry your turkey, I inject my seasonings everywhere and put the turkey in an airtight bag and put it back in the frig for a day (or two). I then use my dry rub all over an oily turkey and then drop it in the fryer and that's it. It so easy to use this thing and cleanup is even easier.
The oiless fryer is a good fryer. Buuuuut if you read the instructions that came with the big easy oiless fryer, it says you should pre season the inside the of the drum before use. It looks like you didn't do this step as it should of been a dark brown inside. Your friend that you spoke to about the fryer, i'd like to see a video of people that acutally cook full time with those methods and you judge the final results. It seems that you were still learning to use a couple methods and that really isn't a realistic test. thank you for the video, I just think you missed out on a good oiless fried turkey.
The Air Fryer is so far the best turkey I have ever had that was fried. The lady that air fried the bird used butter, Cajun seasonings, other herbs then stuffed inside with the butter mixture. She also did the outside of the skin and left for 24 hours in the fridge. How long she cooked it I do not know but the skin was beautifully crisp and the meat was beyond perfectly moist. Way way better than deep frying which I find taste overly cooked and unhealthy. Air fryer or roasting is the way to go but brine/injecting/butter rubbing will make or break any method of cooking😉
I have all three of these cookers and love them all. The most versatile one is the Charbroil Big Easy, and like you said it truly is the least hassle in set-up and use. The Big Easy has stackable baskets that you can put cut vegetables in the lower basket and a pork butt in the top allowing the juice to drop down through the vegetables giving them an amazing flavor.
I used to deep fry my turkey in peanut oil, but I bought the Char Broil Big Easy oil less and it’s the only way to go now. We inject it with a butter/ garlic mixture and butter and rub on the outside. We also put butter under the skin. It’s really fabulous, juicy, and tastes amazing.
I'll second that, and if you know how to remove the breastbone before smoking it, it cuts the time to smoke it by half at least! Pecan wood is my go-to for turkey.
@@obijuankenobi420 We're doing one deep fried, which I've done many times with great results, and one smoked on my pellet smoker for the first time. Both will be pre-brined the night before. Maybe I'll post the reviews on my useless grilling channel that no one views because it suck, lol.

Best purchase I’ve ever made. Both of my uncles and a few close friends of mine have purchased since I’ve watched this video and started using it years ago.
The commentary during the rain is what made me subscribe.
"I don't know where that smoke is from". Famous last words.
🤣😂
As a Brit watching this, the oil-less version wins purely for gravy enhancing juices. Because gravy is one of the best parts of a roast dinner!
TSLav tv... What 🤣? Lol
Fried Turkey > Brit gravy
@Jamie Sanderson Deep fried in peanut oil is the only way to go. I'm frying turkeys for three of my friends Thanksgiving day - I've been doing this for years as they are too scared to do it themselves. My record is seven turkeys fried on Thanksgiving day three years ago. Started at sunrise that morning and fried the last one around 4 pm.
@Tslav TV who said that you only eat turkey on Thanksgiving
We use the heart and neck to make gravy only thing we loose by deep fried is stuffing
Another great video by Sam and gang, always like the everyday cook vibe. The rain in this one was I know not expected but brilliant nonetheless. You don’t get that on any other cooking show! Keep up the great work, I’ll keep watching
I started deep frying 2 years ago. Ill never go back to anything else.
That crunch in the skin while cutting is bliss.
Thanks for the comparison ! Had a great time. Been deep frying Turkey for maybe 10 years now ! Sometimes 4 or 5 Turkeys a season. For us, it's the best way and never going back !! Had a great laugh when it started raining.....been there Bro !! Keep up the good work !
You're gonna have turkey sandwiches for week after this episode.

After all the turkeys are done..... So what are we gonna do for Thanksgiving
I've had the Big Easy oilless infrared one for years. The second thanksgiving I used it for a big ass prime rib and it was amazing!
Watching this video is becoming a tradition of mine each year a few days before Thanksgiving. Great instructional!
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. Have a safe one!
i was about to say the same! wish i had time this year but one day i will deep fry a turkey
@@GLUTENX yessir! We still use it outside or in the garage. But definitely much safer. Still important to not dunk a frozen bird. 😬
@ExcelsiorFocus - Happy (almost) Thanksgiving from 2021!!
Very versatile.
Yeah really really like my big easy
South Africa needs a Sam The Cooking Guy visit !
I've used propane and peanut oil for years...however the infrared looks very interesting...👍👍
I've got the big easy he used and it's awesome. I do chickens in it too
I also got one, not as good as traditional fried turkey but still delicious
very!
I find it is too inconsistent. Hard to tell sometimes if the gas’s is on full or not.
@@G7130 Pretty sure it has two settings, on or off... don't think its like a grill where you can choose
I have used a ButterBall electric fryer for years and love it. You can even put water in it for a seafood boil.
I have a char broil oiless and i absolutley love it ! Ribs are amazing, so are whole chickens as well.
i've had the oil-less charbroil for years and it's amazing and easy. turkey's are delicious. have also cooked prime rib, shish kebabs, and ribs in it...
Next episode: “What to do with Turkey Leftovers”
Oh you gotta watch his leftover turkey sandwich video. Last year I think...?
Hot browns all the day. He has a video for it too. Its absolutely stunningly amazing.
Seen an episode of ddd where a guy made a waffle out of stuffing added mash potatoes turkey and gravy on top with cranberry sauce on the side, looked bad ass
Turkey enchiladas
The infrared Turkey looks under done ?
I love my Big Easy oil-less fryer. This year, I'm going to put the Turkey in my smoker at low temperature for about an hour to get that smokey flavor, then place it in the oil-less fryer to finish it up and crisp the skin.
You're gonna love it man
J. M. Marsh ua-cam.com/video/0n6QtH6mPm0/v-deo.html
Omg I bet that's gonna be incredible
Shareka Lassiter Sparks it was absolutely the best turkey I’ve ever had. So moist and juicy. I highly recommend this method. I have a Rec Tec pellet smoker, put it in for 1.5 hours at low/extreme smoke setting, then into oil-less fryer until 165 IT.
I cook everything I can in mine. Roasts, poultry, ribs, pork shoulders, potatoes, etc.
on the value discussion, he forgot to add the cost of oil, that stuff ain't cheap
Reuse the oil that’s the best way to lower the cost
We fried our turkey following your instructions and it was so good we are doing it again for Christmas! Thanks Sam! #samgiving2020
Her Sam!
I have the electric one! It’s great! Best turkey every time I fry! Love it! Best video ever! Totally going to make one again.
I'm doing three turkeys Thanksgiving as my military kids and there friends are coming this year. One electric deposit fry using the Master Built, regular oven and a Treager smoked turkey. Can't wait for next Thursday. 🦃
Iv been doing the deep fry turkey about 20 yrs now and have never looked back...it Def is the best tasting and juiciest way 2 cook....and iv had the Butterball Xl deep fryer about 5yrs...and its safer and easier than propane...Love It 😁👍
I love you guys! Deep-frying in the rain.
I’ll take any extra help I can get 👍
What temp on oil? Also how long do you think per pound in oil
@@fredluden2298 I would not go larger than 14lbs. Also pat dry before placing in the fryer. I inject mine as well as it is more flavorful than brining alone.
@@fredluden2298 I inject mine the day prior and place it in unused trash bag and let it marinate the day prior
@@fredluden2298 Oil temp should be 325-350
I have the butterball electric fryer and I love it! If you Want a crisp turkey I would go with no more than a 15lb turkey
Yep I have the same fryer so every thanksgiving I’m obligated to fry a bird for each side of the family
You are so right , I even fry whole chicken and the flavor is amazing
The butterball turkey fryer is weak. When the turkey is submerged, the temperature of the oil drops, and the fryers heating element isn't powerful enough to bring it back up to temp.
This made me laugh. The turkey’s all look delicious.
Who else just want to taste the turkey? 😂😂😂😂💃💃💃💃💃💃
Now we need to see a big fish fry with the fryers.
Sam is actively receiving estimates for a retractable extended patio awning
Love the video!
I have always used the butterball fryer and it's one of my best buys yet.
Sam: Oil and Water dont mix
God: Let there be rain
I love my electric deep fryer, I have the same one from this video. Best tip I found is to make sure to lower the basket EMPTY into the hot oil for about 30 sec to a min before putting the turkey in the basket. That way your turkey doesn't stick.
Sam, thanks for doing this video. I appreciate it. I'm a Charbroil "Big Easy" user and I've never had a bad bird come out of that Infra-red cooker. It takes propane, but i believe it's one of the safest ways to get that deep fried taste without the mess and danger.
is this what it's like to have a dad for Thanksgiving?
Sam deep frying:
Rain: im about to destroy this man’s whole career
You can also convert the propane oil fryer into a moonshine still
Yes! Double-duty!!
Or craft beer brewing device!
I love your fucking idea. 💋💕
R u from cape breton? Cause they do that with their lobster boiling rigs.
Turkey #2 for the win
First Time Watching This Guy,...HILARIOUS 😂
Should have done a deep fried Cajun injected Turkey with a Cajun dry rub! My family and friends make me do this every thanksgiving it’s amazing!
I will be using my Charbroil Oil-less Turkey Fryer...
With Bob's Belchers "Father of the Brine" Dry Brine. :)
Ive used the Charbroil Big Easy for 6 years. Never a bad turkey. Juicy and tender. No fuss, no muss.
Bought the electric oil fryer after watching this last year. That Turkey was amazing! Thanks!
Actually it's a more realistic test for someone who is just offhandedly deciding to try a new method of cooking - which was the premise of this video.
I use a big easy more than my bbq
And if you wanted crispy put the lid on but watch it and after awhile you will learn

I don’t care what anybody says. Smoked is hands down better than fried or oven roasted
I'll second that, and if you know how to remove the breastbone before smoking it, it cuts the time to smoke it by half at least! Pecan wood is my go-to for turkey.
I personally love smoked turkey. My family has tried every method that we can think of and smoked always comes out on top.
No turkey is better than a properly deep fried turkey.....punk
@@obijuankenobi420 We're doing one deep fried, which I've done many times with great results, and one smoked on my pellet smoker for the first time. Both will be pre-brined the night before. Maybe I'll post the reviews on my useless grilling channel that no one views because it suck, lol.
I've had my Big Easy for about 7 years, and have never had any turkey that didn't turn out perfect. I've cooked about 55 or 60 of them.
We use the oil with propane deep fryer & we love it. Please note that you’re not supposed to cover it. I get still comes out darker & just as juicy as yours did but it screws up the timing. Loved the video guys!
