Know how to catch all the grasshoppers you want? Find a hay field with hoppers in it, back your truck into the field and open both doors and then back up as fast as you can. you will have hoppers jumping on the doors and inside, when the truck fills up slam the doors and pick the bugs up!

A couple weeks ago I'd never seen or heard of a minnow trap.
Thanks to youtube I've now spent hours learning all about it. Now to go to the city park with creek and catch some. I can't wait to meet the game warden and the police force of a major city. It'll be a great ice breaker.

Just make sure of the restrictions of type and number of minnows that you can have. Different states counties and even bodies of water may have different rules.

It seems that the green would work better than yellow, they make yellow light bulbs to NOT attract insects, of course I've never used yellow bulbs so I can't say from first hand experience. They also make white glow sticks, they're a little hard to find but I think they'd be the best over all.
Nice video by the way. ;)

Just the top if you place it in the trap bugs will escape when you open it to remove it. Duct tape on or glue a magnet on to hold it on the trap.

Would it help any if you put a sleeve of sorts over the trap so that the light really only comes out of the ends? That way they would only be flying toward the entrances instead of trying to get in through the sides.

Just because they can't distinguish that color light from other colors doesn't mean they don't see the light. There are light sensitive receptors in our eyes that only see in black and white and they're what we use to see at night. I would bet pigs and deer would have them too.

This is how my cousin and I did it before fishing when we were kids. Take and old fuzzy blanket and hold it stretched between you and a helper and walk a field with it. (The vintage 100% acrylic ones our mom's all had, and you can constantly find at Goodwill for $2 work great). The hoppers barbed legs will stick to the fuzz like Velcro. Pluck them off by the dozens.

Most likely, they would give more light. The batteries would be a factor though, and you would want to make sure it was LED instead of incandescent.
