    So basically the in order to bypass the ISP you need to become one.

    Nicely put together video! Though there is no way to really get around using an ISP to get access to "The Internet", I always wondered what would happen if a group of people came together and built a network infrastructure for a "Free-net". Basically a large scale local network spanning across multiple nations so connected devices can share information freely with each other without the need of ISP's. There would be problems with regulating bandwidth and extending the usable range of network cabling, but I think these issues could easily be solved. Imagine the uses of a truly free network outside the control of nations, corporations, ISP's, etc.

      @@henoch44 The government already can. The internet transmission lines are owned by the government. If the ISP who buys the usage of these lines doesn't do what the government says, the government will just cut off the ISP.
      Governments just don't do it, because why would they?
      The ISP business model is to bulk buy the usage of these lines and sell them for profit. Which is kindof shitty considering your tax money payed for the infrastructure and now you pay AGAIN to use that infrastructure.

    Basically what the internet is a giant lan grid that connects servers to servers. The question is can you bypass isp to get on their grid? No. But you can create your own grid if you have the knowledge to rig up your own servers.

    • @levelup1279
      @levelup1279 2 роки тому

      I feel like you could though, imagine splicing into a cable if you had the know how & found the right cable.
      Also a home router is like an ISP, it has a mini local network, but you can connect another router & has sub-networks which can communicate with each other.
      It's like a cascading grid of centralized networks all the way down to your client device.

    • @RealMacJones
      @RealMacJones 5 місяців тому

      @levelup1279 That wouldn't work.
      Your house already likely has a "cable spliced" to it. That cable doesn't let you communicate with the network unless you are assigned an address within it.
      That's how the ISP can shut you down remotely from their offices, no need to send out anyone to disconect you, or connect you for that matter.

    Strictly speaking because of Section 230 an ISP is not responsible for the actions of those who use their service. They would have to comply with authorities if they presented a proper warrant, but that's about it. I don't know about other countries, though.

    though i get the thing with across oceans and what not but across land and such im not sure why the internet could be purely p2p.
    if everyone was connected to their nearest neighbors for example then they could build up kind of a mesh and thus the more people near by the more possible routes for the traffic to go instead of pushing it through a single isp node.
    its like the difference between torrent and regular downloads but in a physical sense.

    • @levelup1279
      @levelup1279 2 роки тому +1

      Imagine the latency when bouncing a connection through a mesh network but it has to go about 200km, yeah that would not be fun.
      Also it's hard to build high bandwidth cables which go super far distances unless your very centralized.

    The Internet is a concept. The Internet is a global routing network hierarchy. To make the internet you'll need to make up a system of networks. That's just talking about the network. ISP control part of the network systems! You, as a customer, are paying ISP to connect you to their system and maintain the outside network. Many systems will connect to other systems and join them together! Providers also need to run DNS, DHCP, Dynamic Routing, Services, Point to Point of Protocol, etc. As far as your favorite contents goes, like your favorite websites and services, companies hosts the networks! Those companies also need to connect to several providers and systems to make available to you. If you're one of those people who wonders if you can bypass a provider then you don't understand how networking works at all. You can build your own system of network and share the network! That's as most basic on how internet works as it get. Even still! A system of network goes as far as where the routers connect to and setting up the routing!

  • @dus10dnd

    No, if you have a computer on your home network hosting a website with another computer on the network accessing the website... you're not an internet. You're a network. Internetworking is networking networks. You can have an "internet" but you're not on the Internet (I know, for some reason someone believes it should now officially be lowercased... that "authority" is incorrect, there is a specific internet named the Internet and that requires proper case).

    Your great at explaining, I recently have been getting recommended these underground bunker videos n this idea popped into my head of like If the apocalypse happened n like VERY few people were left could It be possible to have internet? Then I found somewhere online the internet its like connected to everything else BUT what if I made my own personal little internet that was connected to specific people n places that was completely disconnected from the www. Programmed things thats would only be assessed through my own bubble n wires and had this in my apocalyptic bunker. What if someone did this today and it was like a complete upgraded internet then this one in some way then starts selling it and wouldn’t connect it to our internet. And then eventually the internet we use today gets abandoned? How cool would that be? Like a complete internet waste land with no one here and all this bs archived Lol, I dont know how realistic the idea would be cause I guess if I started using this new internet for commercial use then I guess theres nothing holding it back from it being tied with everyday internet. But idk 3am n bored. Got home from work. Anyways great vid 👍

    Anyone can have their own internet service but they have to have millions of dollars for installing miles of fiber cables then install their own transmitters. Most companies rent out transmitter space on the cell phone towers.
